To hate Jo Wiley

Not personally obviously, surprisingly enough I don't know her, but I love the Radio 2 Drivetime programme and she is going to ruin it. I find her voice grating, she has a babyish breathy style that is highly irritating. The Drivetime show was perfect and now they have got rid of homework, foody Thursday with Nigel and they are getting rid of MATT!!!! Are they crazy???

I'm all for gender equality but why can't Jo share a show with Steve Wright as his show is already awful.

I know I may be getting this out of proportion but it feels like this show is part of my life and it's just gone.

Ah Simon is talking now

MrsMozart · 14/05/2018 19:10

I heard a bit. Seemed a bit if a power struggle as it was Jo's time but Simon is obviously so used to being in the driving seat.

TheKitchenWitch · 14/05/2018 19:26

Well this is a barrel of laughs, isn't it? Had me chuckling from the word go. And I'm loving all the fun chat, the useless but interesting information, the clever quiz, the real mix of music....oh no, hang on, got that wrong because this is CACK. I am beyond furious.

TemptressofWaikiki · 14/05/2018 19:30

I hate her because she is an unprincipled for hire bitch, like doing stuff for the Greyhound Racing or Horse Racing industry.

StopWhisperingStopShouting · 14/05/2018 19:33

This is a fucking disgrace!

MrsMozart · 14/05/2018 19:37

Is it a settling in thing? Or just no chance of improvement shit?

Merrylegs · 14/05/2018 19:37

I don't think it will work because Mayo is too abrasive a broadcaster (what my teen would call 'salty'). He's OK with Mark Kermode on Fivelive because Kermode is also salty, AND the actual bonafide film critic, so Simon does kind of have to listen to him. I wouldn't say Simon Mayo is a generous broadcaster. And Jo Whiley is the opposite - everything is brilliant and wonderful. She should have kept her own show.

Don't dilute the women, Radio 2!

OnTopOfSpaghetti · 14/05/2018 19:39

I had to turn it off. I ALWAYS listen to Radio 2 when I'm cooking dinner. What am I going to do now?

Calledyoulastnightfromglasgow · 14/05/2018 19:41

Oh no! I hated drivetime. Instead of the banter and confessions there was an incredibly dull interview about a programme I’m not interested in that went on and on. Don’t know when confessions came on but I missed it. No Matt.

And bloody Jo Wiley introducing some dull singer.

HATE

MrsMozart · 14/05/2018 19:44

Bugger.

I have, potentially, weeks of long commutes coming up.

Looks like it's Mandarin for me.

TheKitchenWitch · 14/05/2018 19:45

There's no banter at all, it's all terribly earnest and the music choices seem a bit off somehow.
I honestly feel like I could cry.

slalomsuki · 14/05/2018 19:48

Another one who had to turn it off much to my disappointment. I liked drive time and the various segments that they had it tonight it had all changed. I've nothing in particular against Jo Wiley but her and Simon don't work. It would have been better is she had the afternoon show instead of Steve Wright.

Slartybartfast · 14/05/2018 19:55

athough i love love this song currently play, about sand dunes, Groove Armada

sluj · 14/05/2018 19:58

I think I've only just realised how much I loved Drive Time with Simon Mayo now it's gone. 😪
Turned Amol off last week and now turned Jo W off tonight. Dull as ditchwater and rubbish music apart from the opening Bruce. Even Simon seemed subdued.

I suspect thats the end for me and Radio 2 apart from snatched minutes of Paul O'Grady, Ken Bruce and Liza Tarbuck

Anyone care to suggest an alternative Drive Time station for me?

Calledyoulastnightfromglasgow · 14/05/2018 20:04

I’m gutted too. Gutted.

Why didn’t they consult us?!

I listened to classic FM instead tonight

Glitterspy · 14/05/2018 20:08

Oh my goodness I have found my people. JW has amazing music taste but everything else is just so, so euuuuuuhhh and smug and irritating.

Disfordarkchocolate · 14/05/2018 20:08

Very sad, it was my secret happy place on the way home from work. Complained to the BBC.

sluj · 14/05/2018 20:10

Interesting. I have gone to Classic in the morning already as Chris Evans got on my nerves- too much about car fest, party in the park and that interminable pushing of the 500 word thing. Not to mention Pudsey stuff

I might give the Classic home time a run then. Is there a "coming home from school" run request? 😁

Calledyoulastnightfromglasgow · 14/05/2018 20:13

No but it’s quite relaxing.

I thought drivetime was perfect so was so sulky tonight classic FM soothes me

I might try Magic and report back. Fran Godfrey of all people did the breakfast show on that for a while!

PiggeryPorcombe · 14/05/2018 20:14

I switched it off too.

I feel almost bereaved Shock

StopWhisperingStopShouting · 14/05/2018 20:19

I love Sean Keavney on R6 in the morn.
I’ll ne tuning in to Greg James on R1 at 5 from now on

StopWhisperingStopShouting · 14/05/2018 20:19

Me too piggery

ShatnersBassoon · 14/05/2018 20:21

I think the problem with Jo Wiley is that she struggles to develop a rapport with anyone. She's a one-woman music-loving package (she loves music, LOVES it, by the way). Celebs, colleagues, musicians etc are an accessory to her shtick.

I predicted Florence and the Machine would feature today Grin

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 14/05/2018 20:22

I quite like her! Well I like her hair and clothes and her children's names Grin and she's never done anything to actually bug me....

Tomboytown · 14/05/2018 20:28

Yabu
Drivetime is an awful program
