To think you shouldn’t stink of sweat at the gym?

Allthestarskendrick · 03/05/2018 13:38

At the gym this morning, finished my workout on the treadmill and there was a man there that smelt so badly of BO, he wasn’t even that close to me.

Fresh sweat doesn’t smell. Stale sweat does.

OP posts:
Smeddum · 03/05/2018 16:34

@19lottie82 read my post that you just quoted and apply it to yourself.

Sick fed up of judgy people acting like their shit doesn’t stink and making themselves feel better by belittling other people. You know nothing of their lives, and being judgemental isn’t a pleasant or decent way to be.

19lottie82 · 03/05/2018 16:36

Gyms stink
My gym doesn’t stink.

it’s what happens when a lot
of people get sweaty in a confined space.

No it isn’t. Fresh sweat doesn’t stink.
It’s what happens when people don’t wash themselves and / or their clothing in between work outs.

19lottie82 · 03/05/2018 16:41

smeddum and I’m fed up with people like you calling others “judgey” just because they think people should wash between work outs.

Yes maybe there is a very slight chance the guy has MH problems or similar. But 99.8% chance he’s just lazy.

I’m not going to accept every person committing every single gross and unsociable act just on the minute possibility they might have mental health issues.

And I’m not going to accept you swooping down upon me and calling me “unpleasant” because of it.

19lottie82 · 03/05/2018 16:43

PS how do you know I don’t have MH issues that cause me to be so “judgemental”, yet you’re harking on about how unpleasant I am? But it’s not ok for me to call the man in question unpleasant?

Smeddum · 03/05/2018 16:43

@19lottie82 thinking something in your own head is one thing, starting a thread to sneer and belittle someone because you think you’re so much better is another.

So aye, it’s being judgy, and fucking nasty with it.

Smeddum · 03/05/2018 16:44

And I’m not going to accept you swooping down upon me and calling me “unpleasant” because of it

I didn’t call you anything. Unlike the majority of posters on this thread who have delighted in taking a man to bits because he smells.

RedSkyAtNight · 03/05/2018 16:47

What on earth is the issue with wearing gym clothes more than once? They get sweaty again within about 2 minutes (well they do the way I exercise) so you only get the benefit of them being clean for a tiny amount of time.

19lottie82 · 03/05/2018 16:47

smeddum it’s called a discussion forum.
Where does the OP say she is better than anyone, her thread isn’t about that . It’s about the FACT that it’s gross having to work out next to someone that’s stinking of BO and they should generally have the common sense to wash themselves and their clothes between workouts rather than push their stench on to others.

There is nothing judgey or nasty about that.

ProperLavs · 03/05/2018 16:48

if someone stinks and isn't homeless (with no access to a sink in which to clean themselves and their clothes) they need to clean themselves and their clothes. It's not hard.

Smeddum · 03/05/2018 16:48

@19lottie82 I would appear to have hit a nerve, why is that do you think?

ProperLavs · 03/05/2018 16:49

you haven't hit a nerve, you're simply being ridiculous.

19lottie82 · 03/05/2018 16:49

RedSky because after you work out the sweat mixes with bacteria and starts to pong. You might not smell it but others will.

Smeddum · 03/05/2018 16:51

This whole thread has a feel of mean girls at school putting others down to make themselves feel better.

19lottie82 · 03/05/2018 16:52

smeddum, hit a nerve? Not at all. What on Earth makes you say that? Because I’m debating your comments and not agreeing with you? Okay.......... Hmm

Nesssie · 03/05/2018 16:52

“Your tone and unkindness says a lot more about the kind of person you are than his smell says about him!”

Exactly my thoughts. He’s obviously working hard so leave him tf alone. Everyone sweats differently.

ikeepaforkinmypurse · 03/05/2018 16:52

you only get the benefit of them being clean for a tiny amount of time
as that can apply to absolutely everything from underwear to coats, I wouldn't like to be your roommate.

Popadoodledoo
try to justify being disgusting as you wish, there's no excuse for wearing dirty clothes. You can buy a pack of tshirts for a couple of pounds and wear them to exercise - and cotton smells a lot less than sport fabric.

RedSkyAtNight · 03/05/2018 16:53

Well yes, but , how's that different to sweating once you've started working out? I run to the gym so (depending on which route I take), my top is often dripping in sweat before I get there - would it really smell less if it had been clean on when I started?

BitOutOfPractice · 03/05/2018 16:54

There's only one person whose had any sort of "tone" on this thread Smeddum and that's you!

Please would you point out where this man has been "taken to bits"? The debate moved on immediately from this man to smells in gyms in general.

esk1mo · 03/05/2018 16:55

i hate this 😭 i think they are usually people that just never wear deoderant. its horrible.

19lottie82 · 03/05/2018 16:56

“This whole thread has a feel of mean girls at school putting others down to make themselves feel better.”

Eh? No, no it doesn’t.

How is arguing that a grown adult should wash between workouts so others don’t have to put up with his BO, putting myself down so I can “make myself feel better”? Confused feel better about what exactly?

If I went up to said person in the gym and said out loud in front of others “oi mate you stink! You make me feel sick! Do us all a favour and don’t come back until you have a wash” then yes that would be nasty and mean, but again this is a discussion forum......

19lottie82 · 03/05/2018 16:58

“Well yes, but , how's that different to sweating once you've started working out? I run to the gym so (depending on which route I take), my top is often dripping in sweat before I get there - would it really smell less if it had been clean on when I started?“

No it wouldn’t, it takes longer than that for it to start to smell bad. (But between workouts will do the trick, trust me!)

Smeddum · 03/05/2018 16:59

People should have personal hygiene and should not stink, anywhere, ever. Sadly some folks are filthy

Well that’s vile

The posters who admit to wearing gym stuff three times in a row are rank. That’s just grim

I think it's disgusting

He stunk out a whole area of the gym. That’s not normal

Just a few of the “not judgy or nasty” comments from the first two pages.

twinklefeather · 03/05/2018 17:01

I’m with the op, I chuck my kit in the wash as soon as I get back with detergent and a drop of zoflora, at a push I would wear trousers again but not a t-shirt/vest.

Belindabauer · 03/05/2018 17:01

As said previously, it's not washing or not wearing clean clothes that cause the smell.
I've seen people literally dripping with sweat and they do not smell.
They shower and wash their clothes.

Lovemusic33 · 03/05/2018 17:01

I go to the gym a few times a week and occationally get a whiff of BO, the other day there was a man that smelt of stale piss (much worse than BO), I expect there to be some BO smells, people swear when they workout.
