Would you be pissed off if your partner went to one of these sleazy places? Am I overreacting to be pissed off about dh going to one when he knew I'd be cross about it ? I'm not hopping mad but I'm certainly very unimpressed!

‘there is nothing that would make me uncomfortable about my grown up daughters working there or about taking my grand kids for a meal.’

Speak for yourself...!

gawdsake · 30/04/2018 22:07

But then I haven't been indoctrinated into believing that females finding male physically attractive an enjoying that, is automatically, inherently wrong, via the use of pejoritive language such as exploitation and objectification :)

But then the sex industry and using sex to sell isn't by and large created women, it's created by men for men.

HTH

ghostyslovesheets · 30/04/2018 22:09

it's like 'excuses for everyday sexism' bingo tonight

of course we find other peoples forms attractive - tis natural and beautiful - but I don;t need a willy waggled in my face while eating - in fact nothing more likely to put me off a man than dangling his knob in my nachos

gawdsake · 30/04/2018 22:10

@Tragicboozyflaccidclown this pretty much only ever happened after hours, in exactly the same way that it did when I worked in a regular pub. That's not the whole reason that security were there and this only happened occasionally. Security were mainly there to ensure that people weren't entering who had no ID, drinking underage, starting fights, just like any other bar/pub/club after 9pm! Some really pathetic/sarcy people on this thread.

ArcheryAnnie · 30/04/2018 22:10

It's not criticising the women who choose to serve or the job they do. It's criticising the concept and the letchy fuckers behind it.

gawdsake has it spot-on.

flowerslemonade women on this thread have said again and again that they don't judge the women who work there - we as women all have to make choices on how to survive in a patriarchal society.

And on this: Also if you look at jobs like banking and investment banking, the massive harm they do, and the huge amounts of money they make, no one tends to criticise those people, or say they're gross or bad for doing what they do.

I can assure you that I do often criticise banking and investment.

It's always the women who get criticised and often people who are low earners too.

Not here it isn't. We're criticising the clientele, and the management, not the workers. There is a big difference. It's like criticising the management of a big opencast mine which is polluting the environment, and not criticisisng those miners who work for very little in that mine because there are no other jobs.

Nanny0gg · 30/04/2018 22:11

And who wants to take their children to a restaurant that needs bouncers and security?

SheGotBetteDavisEyes · 30/04/2018 22:13

But then I haven't been indoctrinated into believing that females finding male physically attractive an enjoying that, is automatically, inherently wrong, via the use of pejoritive language such as exploitation and objectification

Exploitation and objectification are entirely separate issues to people finding each other attractive.

Or are you deliberately missing the point?

Oh, and here's a little pass-agg Smile back.

gawdsake · 30/04/2018 22:13

Well i wouldn't take my kids no matter how good the Wingz were.

OutofSyncGirl · 30/04/2018 22:14

I think if I tried to take my 14 year daughter she'd be horrified.

SmileEachDay · 30/04/2018 22:15

gawd don’t use pesky logic on JAPAB 🙄

knight the place is called Hooters It has “girls” listed just under the wingz as a reason to go. Can you not see the issue with that for women?

gawdsake · 30/04/2018 22:15

I must admit if my if I was a kid and my parents took me I would die of embarrassment.

Iggiattheend · 30/04/2018 22:16

Knightofwands take a look at the clothes worn by staff in your local fast food joint next time you're in - in fact, look at the general diversity of staff.
little different in practice from most burger / chicken joints Hmm

Helmetbymidnight · 30/04/2018 22:16

The wings are so amazing. You can't criticise hooters, it's like criticising nurses.

MillicentF · 30/04/2018 22:18

"Well i wouldn't take my kids no matter how good the Wingz were."

Even if it was really close to the hotel?

SmileEachDay · 30/04/2018 22:19

Grin Milli

gawdsake · 30/04/2018 22:19

The girls even do a calendar photo shoot. You couldn't make it up!

Can you imagine Burger King or KFC doing a photo shoot of their employees in their swimwear?

JAPAB · 30/04/2018 22:19

Exploitation and objectification are entirely separate issues to people finding each other attractive.

Yes I knew that. But the former two magic words will often be invoked in any situation where the latter occurs, it seems.

gawdsake best not book a meal at Sausages then.

Helmetbymidnight · 30/04/2018 22:20

Think of the steam they can let off!

gawdsake · 30/04/2018 22:20

Millie you may have just swung it for me Grin

noblegiraffe · 30/04/2018 22:21

You can't criticise hooters, it's like criticising nurses.

Grin both performing such a vital public service.

gawdsake · 30/04/2018 22:23

gawdsake best not book a meal at Sausages then.

Why, are the Wingz shit? Is it far from the hotel?

Ghanagirl · 30/04/2018 22:23

Can't be arsed to read whole thread as Mumsnet is based in UK and pretty sure "hooters" is US chain serving disgusting junk food with side order of underpaid young women displaying their bodies in return for tips!

OutofSyncGirl · 30/04/2018 22:24

Hooters is in the UK these days.

gawdsake · 30/04/2018 22:24

They have them in the UK too Ghana
