To be annoyed at repeated crap remakes of beloved films?

Just watching "overboard" on tv. Not a huge film but just a lovely gentle romcom. I do tend to wiki what I watch as I like finding out bits of trivia.

Now apparently there's a "reboot" being released next month with Anna Farris doing the kurt Russell part and someone I've never heard of goldie hawns.

Why is Hollywood so LAZY!

Upcoming remakes apparently include

The craft
The crow
Cube
Dirty rotten scoundrels (NOBODY will be as delightful as the late Glenne Headley)
Adventures in babysitting
Fame
Flatliners

Why???

I'm guessing they're hoping to capitalise on the original films success/name but they flop anyway! Waste of money that could be spent developing new talent in my opinion.

I thought you were going to be mentioning the Keith Lemon thing!

CrispsForTea · 29/04/2018 00:14

YANBU! I'm so sick of Disney's live action versions of films they released decades ago (although I'll admit Beauty and the Beast was amazing), and now I've heard they're starting on the old classics like Bedknobs and Broomsticks. Write some new stories!!

CrispsForTea · 29/04/2018 00:17

Just to clarify, I realise that Disney haven't done many live action remakes yet, but I am annoyed in advance about the ones io come Grin

IntelligentYetIndecisive · 29/04/2018 00:18

Ghostbusters was just God Almightily stupid.

I could not believe I had paid to watch such dross.

YANBU, OP. Alongside interminable sequels, remakes demonstrate the complete lack of originality in the film making industry.

Graphista · 29/04/2018 00:21

Yes fecking

Saw 103 or such shite!

TOO MANY SEQUELS

Come up with something new!

YANBU and glad you mentioned The Craft as I heard they are remaking that and it will probably be a big pile of shit. I also heard rumours of remaking Labyrinth. Since David Bowie has died I get more angry hearing hints of this and I would seriously consider taking part in a protest against this.

ijustwannadance · 29/04/2018 00:26

There was already a shit Fame remake a few years ago.
I liked Cube. It was crap and cheaply made but in a good way. Bet remake will be lots of CGI.

ves79 · 29/04/2018 00:27

The worst remake I’ve ever seen was the Dirty dancing remake last year, they chose an actress who couldn’t dance for baby, and it became a musical. Baby’s parents end up splitting up, and it was so bad that I couldn’t stop watching.
But I agree, remakes are so not needed, it ruins it for me.

Graphista · 29/04/2018 00:30

Why don't they know not to compete with something that was already successful?

I've also seen ads for Death Wish being remade - hate this for opposite reasons - they were vile the first time round need left well alone!

Hairspray Angry Fuck off John Travolta.

ijustwannadance · 29/04/2018 00:35

A lot of the remakes don't work now as the context is out of date, so they change bits to try to make them more relevant and 9 times out of 10 they just shouldn't have bothered.

If they do remake labyrinth, target audience won't be interested in puppets and the pervy older man theme wouldn't be accepted.

I made a thread about that lol.

John Revolta Angry The original is the best and Ricki Lake will always be the true Tracy Turnblad.

BettyBooJustDoinTheDoo · 29/04/2018 00:45

Overboard is one of my favourite films, love it, they can’t improve it so why bother? I did hear they were going to re make Point Break as well, just bizarre!!

Graphista · 29/04/2018 00:47

Point Break is pretty much perfect YOU DON'T FUCK WITH A CLASSIC!

OP posts:
HelenaDove · 29/04/2018 00:51

Yep Turned on the horror channel on Friday night expecting to see Jamie Lee Curtis with Leslie Nielson playing her dad as they had listed Prom Night. ....................and it was the fucking remake Hmm

Graphista · 29/04/2018 00:53

Ugh I hate when that happens Helena - or worse - you see the title of a great film in tv listings and get all excited only to learn its NOT the great film you love but the REALLY crap tv "spin off" made 20-30 yrs later with actors who weren't even alive when it was made!!

OP posts:
dingdongdigeridoo · 29/04/2018 01:00

The Craft? How dare they! And didn’t they already do Fame and it was shite?

They’re also making a Heathers tv show. The premise is that it’s the ‘weird’ kids who are now cool, and if you’re not genderqueer or whatever then you’re an outcast. The LGBT community isn’t too pleased about it.

Graphista · 29/04/2018 01:04

They're really doing that with Heathers? Sacrilege!

OP posts:
BettyBooJustDoinTheDoo · 29/04/2018 01:04

Just read online they did in fact re make Point Break, it got slated......honestly are producers/directors or whoever so full of themselves and their film making abilities that they can improve on a classic?

tinkael · 29/04/2018 01:08

most re makes are poor however I have never heard of the film's you said where getting remade besides fame and craft

TrippingTheVelvet · 29/04/2018 01:09

YY to the awfulness that was Dirty Dancing. I couldn't comment on other remakes as that one was enough to put me off them all.

HelenaDove · 29/04/2018 01:09

They were also planning a Cruel Intentions TV show but i think thats been dropped.

Graphista · 29/04/2018 01:10

Cruel intentions is a good example - it's a remake of a remake! Seen this happen a few times. There does not need to be umpteen versions of the Same film!

OP posts:
HelenaDove · 29/04/2018 01:15

The Craft ..............was just before TV series Charmed. Could be where they got the idea from.

sprinklesandsauce · 29/04/2018 01:20

Crap remakes I couldn’t finish watching

Point Break
Footloose
Flat liners
Ghostbusters
The Fog

some films are just so good that they don’t ever need a remake! Point Break was just awful. You simply cannot replace Patrick Swayze! In anything!

Sequels 20 years later are dodgy too!
