To be annoyed at repeated crap remakes of beloved films?

Just watching "overboard" on tv. Not a huge film but just a lovely gentle romcom. I do tend to wiki what I watch as I like finding out bits of trivia.

Now apparently there's a "reboot" being released next month with Anna Farris doing the kurt Russell part and someone I've never heard of goldie hawns.

Why is Hollywood so LAZY!

Upcoming remakes apparently include

The craft
The crow
Cube
Dirty rotten scoundrels (NOBODY will be as delightful as the late Glenne Headley)
Adventures in babysitting
Fame
Flatliners

Why???

I'm guessing they're hoping to capitalise on the original films success/name but they flop anyway! Waste of money that could be spent developing new talent in my opinion.

I also hate it when old films are used in adverts Halifax have used The Wizard of Oz.

HelenaDove · 29/04/2018 01:32

The Fog as well They didnt get the memo that Jamie Lee Curtis is the Scream Queen and cant be bettered.

Graphista · 29/04/2018 01:42

The craft and charmed were filmed around the same time but charmed was thought of WAY before the craft. Took time to get it made as most networks didn't think an all female lead cast would "sell" Hmm

The Fog is an absolute classic, I’ve seen it so many times think I know it off by heart! Yes to JLC being the scream queen! And yes to that weird Halifax advert, it’s not even well done which adds insult to injury.

Weezol · 29/04/2018 01:46

I have a fairly good record for swerving remakes - if in doubt, check the channel's schedule online, it usually lists the year the film was released.

They're tinkering with Heathers? Fuck me gently with a chainsaw if I'm going anywhere near that.

HelenaDove · 29/04/2018 01:48

Quelle surprise.

Graphista · 29/04/2018 02:25

And yet they're trying to sell the new Charmed reboot as "feminist" as if the original charmed wasn't!

Dirty rotten scoundrels (NOBODY will be as delightful as the late Glenne Headley)

It was actually a re-make of a very mediocre, and rather nasty, 1964 film "Bedtime Story" starring David Niven and Marlon Brando,

So, in this case, I think "Dirty Rotten Scoundrels" was infinitely superior to its original.

The Humphrey Bogart version of "The Maltese Falcon" was the second re-make.

Sometimes a re-make can work, but not really when the original is well known for its excellence/originality/fortuitous synergy.

YANBU

Graphista · 29/04/2018 02:49

No the 80's version I love - another remake is on the cards though

I hope no one ever tries to re-make Lost Boys......

HelenaDove · 29/04/2018 03:29

Lost Boys has the best film soundtrack EVER!

FrustratedTeddyLamp · 29/04/2018 04:00

Worried for the oceans remake, which is odd because I love most of the actresses

Vitalogy · 29/04/2018 05:08

One that I would like a new version of is Logan's Run. There was talk of it but nothing as of yet.

IJustLostTheGame · 29/04/2018 07:06

The new version of Footloose is utter shite. I didn't realise there was a new version until I tried to watch it on Netflix.
Cue utter disappointment and outrage.

Lostforagoodname · 29/04/2018 07:24

The pink panther
I mean why! Why would you even try? One of the most famous funny films. And you Steve Martin try and make it funnier Confused

MargotLovedTom1 · 29/04/2018 07:33

I can't watch Steve Martin in anything now - his face freaks me out Sad.

ultrababy · 29/04/2018 07:40

I'm glad someone mentioned Dirty Dancing. I caught the last 5 minutes of it yesterday. What in God's name were they thinking? I was mesmerised as to just how incredibly shite it was.

hammeringinmyhead · 29/04/2018 08:03

Flatliners remake has been and gone. I went to see it last year. Total dud.

CaptainMarvelDanvers · 29/04/2018 08:11

I was so disappointed in the new Ghostbusters. Although I’m not keen on remakes I really wanted it to be good, mainly because lots of blokes were being pigs before they had even watched it. But as a PP said, it was dross. The humour was just completely different, I mean the fart jokes would have been something to barely laugh at during 1990’s Nickelodeon.

The Dirty Dancing remake was laughably bad, I wasn’t even angry. It really wasn’t a film that needed to be remade though.

BelfastBloke · 29/04/2018 08:11

Live-action remake

KC225 · 29/04/2018 08:12

I thought the new Ghostbuters was good. I saw it as a version rather than a remake. Like every few years they pump out a new Tarzan or a new Sherlock in some form or other.

CaptainMarvelDanvers · 29/04/2018 08:15

One remake that is good though and I think is better than the original and really gives you the atmosphere of the book is True Grit. Some people who worship John Wayne won’t hear of it, but it really is the better version.

I hope they don’t do a remake of the Outsiders. All the characters are now cast as the original actors in my mind, even Dallas who had blonde hair in the book,

Skinnyboneylittlepony · 29/04/2018 08:18

YANBU. I hate it when they redo songs too. They get a 12 year old to sing it with no soul and add a drum beat.
