To be annoyed at repeated crap remakes of beloved films?

Just watching "overboard" on tv. Not a huge film but just a lovely gentle romcom. I do tend to wiki what I watch as I like finding out bits of trivia.

Now apparently there's a "reboot" being released next month with Anna Farris doing the kurt Russell part and someone I've never heard of goldie hawns.

Why is Hollywood so LAZY!

Upcoming remakes apparently include

The craft
The crow
Cube
Dirty rotten scoundrels (NOBODY will be as delightful as the late Glenne Headley)
Adventures in babysitting
Fame
Flatliners

Why???

I'm guessing they're hoping to capitalise on the original films success/name but they flop anyway! Waste of money that could be spent developing new talent in my opinion.

I know it's not a great film originally but I love the first Conan the barbarian. The remake was terrible unless you fancy Jason momoa, which I don't.

YouTheCat · 29/04/2018 11:32

I enjoyed the remake of Conan. It was different to the original though.

MissWilmottsGhost · 29/04/2018 11:37

I hate remakes. It's just lazy, unimaginative, greedy fuckers thinking they can rake in the cash for minimal effort.

Why take a good film that everyone enjoyed, and make it again but crap?

Why not take a crap film that everyone thought was rubbish, and make it again but good?

There must be a million films that could be improved. Law of averages says that a brilliant film remade is unlikely to be better, but a really bad film can't get any worse Grin

Somehow it also seems to spoil the original too Angry

Sometimes on TV it can work well. The Buffy film was crap, the series amazing. Battlestar Galactica remake was better than the original, in my opinion, although that is probably just a reflection on the time difference making it all look so much better and issues being more up to date. Same with Star Trek for me, the original series is amazing but the recent films are great in their own way.

Then there is 'remastered' which sometimes works out but often makes it worse. Seeing older films with zippy new CGI really doesnt always work out! Although it's far better in gaming, remastered great older games brought forward to newer gen consoles and pc with better graphics can work so well and achieve what all theses remakes want to do, just make tons of money.

But then there is the weird ones that just never stop being remade. Freaky Friday is apparently being remade for the 4th time this year, that's just too much!

Doobigetta · 29/04/2018 11:40

Venture capital innit. The people who fund film production aren't creative types, they don't give a shit about originality. They want maximum guaranteed ROI with minimal risk. And that means films already proved successful.

diddimus

Yes I suppose you are right

I dont often watch it because when his mummy is in prison and she is singing to him

I dont do crying...its not a good look on me

DiddimusStench · 29/04/2018 11:42

Rufus quite! I don’t watch it for the same reason. And the pink elephants Shock

Nothisispatrick · 29/04/2018 11:48

I didn't know there were remakes of dirty dancing and footloose, they can't have done very well.

Ghostbusters was atrocious, as a remake, as a film in its own right, in all ways. The funniest character was Chris Hemsworth, the man. Great win for feminism there.

Rufustheconstantreindeer · 29/04/2018 11:49

Chris hemsworth was not a funny character

They made him much too stupid...it went too far, it was painful

Which is a shame as he is quite the comedian

Rufustheconstantreindeer · 29/04/2018 11:50

diddimus

Those pink elephants are scary

Rufustheconstantreindeer · 29/04/2018 11:52

The funniest character was Jillian Holtz played by Kate Mckinnon

And then Lesley Jones played by Patty Tolan

Thats ghostbusters...and obviously in my opinion

Lizzie48 · 29/04/2018 11:58

Why did they have to do a remake of Poseidon Adventure? Give me the 1970s version with Gene Hackman any day over that ridiculous attempt.

And the remake of Ben Hur as well. Nothing can match the 1950s version with Charlton Heston and the amazing chariot race.

I quite agree, it's just so lazy. Hmm

3luckystars · 29/04/2018 11:58

I think it is absolutely scandalous that Willy Wonka was allowed to be remade.

To me it was perfect and I think J Depp should have been struck off (or whatever the equivalent is for actors) for such an outrageous piece of shit.

If they ever touch the Shawshank Redemption, I will probably be marching.

(I’m usually very easy going but I love those two films)

Nothisispatrick · 29/04/2018 11:59

Gosh I thought Kate Mckinnon's character was awful, she didn't make any sense. Desperately try hard quirky. In fact she was the worst character, in my opinion of course.

SerenDippitty · 29/04/2018 12:00

The Magnificent Seven. Why ffs? Why?

Rufustheconstantreindeer · 29/04/2018 12:01

RIGHT

I think we need to take this outside notthisis

After you...I'll meet you in the car park

Grin
Rufustheconstantreindeer · 29/04/2018 12:02

I think over all she was the best...though i really liked Patty toran as well

It might just be because i liked her glasses...I'm very shallow

Roomba · 29/04/2018 12:08

I do agree with you, OP.

But then I remember that most of Shakespeare's plays were reboots of older, familiar tales. I think the problem these days is that, unlike in Elizabethan times, they do the remakes far too soon after the originals! Grin

Freyanna · 29/04/2018 12:16

Love 'Overboard' with Goldie Hawn I have it recorded.

My worst remake was a film called 'The Women'.

The original version was filmed in the 30's, starring Joan Crawford. Fantastic!

The new remake was so terrible I didn't finish watching it.

Lizzie48 · 29/04/2018 12:34

I did like the revamping of the original Star Wars trilogy, apart from the fact that they added the stupid Jabba scene to the 'New Hope' film. It just didn't work.

Unicornsandrainbows3 · 29/04/2018 12:43

They cannot remake Labrynth. I forbid it!

And that horrific remake of 'Charlie' with Johhny Depp gave me nightmares shudder

88mph · 29/04/2018 14:24

They cannot remake Labrynth. I forbid it!

No, no, no, no, no. No.

IntelligentYetIndecisive · 29/04/2018 16:02

The remake of Ghostbusters was absolutely cretinous.

It was mindblowingly stupid from the degeneration of a professor teying to get tenure at a prestigious college reduced to a twittering wreck hiring an utter incompetent because he was attractive, to the running joke about the bad food at the only Chinese takeaway they ever called.

Only one of them had access to a car. A hearse. Really?

The original Ghostbusters wasn't exactly The Color Purple, but this remake was beyond cretinous.

Aridane · 29/04/2018 16:05

The remake of The Wickerman with Nicholas Cage was awesomely bad

Chesntoots · 29/04/2018 16:07

They had better not even fucking think about touching Young Guns...
