Apologies if this has already been raised, I did do a quick search but couldn't find anything. Anyway, AIBU to ask if any of you will be attending this protest?

Bump

No, I will not. When I become president or prime minister and know the half of what goes on and not what is reported by tabloids, then I may consider having a strong enough opinion to go and attempt to intimidate a person into not entering a free country.

FoxySamanthaPetersonTheCat · 28/04/2018 19:42

He’s a scumbag of the highest order. But where were all the protesters when all the other world leader scumbags came to visit?

I like the idea of American idiot getting to number 1 for the occasion mind you.

CadyHeron · 28/04/2018 19:50

What User186 said. I'm not a fan, but this is a free country.Or at least it's supposed to be.
So yes, he should be allowed to visit.
But where were all the protesters when all the other world leader scumbags came to visit?
Exactly.

user1492877024 · 28/04/2018 20:25

Wow just wow. I didn't start this thread for a bun fight, but I must be honest when I say that i'm surprised by such apathy.

OP posts:
insideoutsider · 28/04/2018 20:26

The American people made him President. They chose him. He is here representing America. No idea what we are protesting. Don't like him? Don't invite him to your house.

I hope EVERYONE who is protesting went out to protest when leaders of countries with stark human rights abuses came for a visit.

I bet they didn't. Hypocrites.

user1492877024 · 28/04/2018 20:30

Thanks to those who have replied. As I said, not looking for a bun fight. However, it is fair to say that i'm surprised.

He's a total disaster but we have big problems in this country that no one's trying to fix or protest about. We need good relationships with the USA and he was elected, so as others have said we should have questioned the others who have passed by.

Theimpossiblegirl · 28/04/2018 20:40

I would if I could get there. We are a free country but he is both a racist and a misogynist, with many allegations of sexual assault/harassment to his name. Therefore, he should not be welcomed.

SheGotBetteDavisEyes · 28/04/2018 20:41

I'll be protesting. He's a racist, sexist, lying, misogynistic bully who is using his office to harm, hurt, deceive and profit from.

That's enough for me.

I hope EVERYONE who is protesting went out to protest when leaders of countries with stark human rights abuses came for a visit. I bet they didn't. Hypocrites

What an odd argument. If you haven't protested before, don't protest now? For many people, Trump will be the first person they attend a protest about. He is making sure that everyone knows his views and he is inciting moderate, non-protesting people into wanting to take action and march for the values they want to defend.

When I become president or prime minister and know the half of what goes on and not what is reported by tabloids

You don't need to wonder with Trump though, do you? You have his vile, harmful views straight from the horse's mouth. You either think he's acceptable or you don't.

If you don't want to protest, don't.

Fruitcorner123 · 28/04/2018 20:42

I would protest if I could but I won't be able to. He is racist so I want to stand with people of all races in our country.
He has insulted our country in some of his tweets and I feel as a woman I want to stand with the women of the USA. I do agree that there are other questionable world leaders who have visited and perhaps we should have protested them (some did) but he is the most high profile idiot world leader which is why he is getting more attention.

hiblueblue · 28/04/2018 20:44

...

Anothergreentomato · 28/04/2018 20:44

user I don't quite understand the criticism you've got so far. The viewpoint that if you haven't protested every other slightly dodgy leader's visit you have no right to protest now is like saying you only have a right to be concerned about climate change if you live off grid and wash in a stream.

OP at no point said he didn't have a right to visit, as far as I'm aware the protests aren't about stopping the visit per se but at some of the policy viewpoints he has taken. Of course he is democratically elected and doesn't serve us in the UK but we're still allowed to say we disagree with him aren't we, if only to tell our own government not to go the same way in search of trade deals etc.

OhHolyJesus · 28/04/2018 20:46

Not able to be there in person but I don't want him here, not least because of his ignorance and his attack on the Mayor of London but there are so many reasons.

Think there are 33,000 signed up to protest so they will be lining the streets.

Armi · 28/04/2018 20:46

I hope Sadiq Khan pokes him in the eye.

Would happily attend but have to work on 13th July. Teacher, so no flexibility with work.

Theimpossiblegirl · 28/04/2018 20:50

Luck of the draw, op. As is often the case, the first few posters on a thread seem to want to bring it and the op down, whatever the thread is about.

As a site mainly for women, you'd think most of us wouldn't want that woman hater here. If I wasn't working (also a teacher so no flexibility) I would be there, as would my daughters.

I doubt he'll be invited for a web chat...

NotAnotherNoughtiesTune · 28/04/2018 20:54

No.

He's a douchebag but:

  1. He's the President of one of our greatest allies.

  2. He has not been criminalised therefore should have freedom to enter our country like anyone else.

  3. Freedom of speech. I don't have to agree with him (I certainly don't) but his opinions are allowed just like mine. His are more dangerous true, but that is down to his people voting him in, not me.

I think it's kind of pointless to be honest.

Flaskfan · 28/04/2018 20:54

Shouldn't we all just ignore him? Just deny him any chance to show off or feel hard done to? Be nice if the mefia could ignore him too.

ragged · 28/04/2018 20:55

I am thinking about going along. Problem is that the facebook pages about protest have been very nasty, angry, threatening. I am afraid the protest could go violent which would play into hands of alt-right, nothing good would come of it. I like Owen Jones idea of a lampooning carnival. I quite hope that humour is the way the protest goes.

'ks sake, if I went along to protest everything wrong in the world I wouldn't have time for anything else. Gotta pick and choose.

ajandjjmum · 28/04/2018 20:55

He was democratically elected and is visiting as the representative of one of our closest allies. We should welcome the office if not the person.

Would love American Idiot to get to No. 1 though!

And credit where credit's due - he's had a positive impact on the Korean situation, and the economic situation in the States is improving.

No-one's all bad.

NotAnotherNoughtiesTune · 28/04/2018 20:57

I don't see an issue with others protesting though. Just won't be myself.

Bejazzled · 28/04/2018 20:58

Absolutely not. I would never have voted for him, but the American people did that democratically so until he is impeached they say different we suck it up.

derxa · 28/04/2018 20:58

I won't no. It's very odd how other countries welcome him with open arms and other world leaders have been beating a path to his door. Anyway for a narcissist like Trump, any attention is good.

NewYearNewMe18 · 28/04/2018 21:00

All sounds like a Father Ted extravaganza Down with that sort of thing

I see Friday 13 is a Friday. Do you expect people to lose a days pay? a days leave? spend money commuting to London? All in order to protest against a democratically elected leader of our strongest ally?

dayswithaY · 28/04/2018 21:01

He's no worse than creepy sex pest Bill Clinton.
