Why is there still such a problem with labour? As unpopular as the Tories are they aren't going to get elected while they keep harbouring such views.

I'm getting increasingly concerned that Tories will remain in power

They are not anti Semitic it's what the right wing press want you to think.

jnfrrss · 24/04/2018 22:33

He admitted himself tonight that they have problems with anti Semitics and he's done / said some very anti Semitic stuff in the past. So no I don't buy that

I think perhaps they started off as being anti Zionist then it drifted into anti semitism. They hate women as well.

LifeBeginsAtGin · 24/04/2018 22:46

But not transgender women

foodtime · 24/04/2018 22:49

I think perhaps they started off as being anti Zionist then it drifted into anti semitism. They hate women as well.

Any examples? Or do facts not matter when your talking nonsense on the internet?

Efrig · 24/04/2018 22:49

Yes, you have to be the right sort of woman then they’re okay. I think they prefer us in the kitchen making them tea.

Efrig · 24/04/2018 22:51

They support Palestine which leads one to think they’re anti Zionist. This is a reasonable enough observation. Recent events demonstrate their attitude towards women.

AndhowcouldIeverrefuse · 24/04/2018 22:52

I have wondered this. Do they not see the problem? Do they see it but they don't think it matters/ they don't care / think their voters don't care and will vote Labour all the same?

And yes I agree about the misogyny.

jnfrrss · 24/04/2018 22:54

Isn't anti Zionist also anti semantic? I think the dictionary definition of AS is denying the Jewish people a homeland.

Safe Labour seats lead them into complacency. I’m in a safe Labour seat. People in my area would vote for a mummified cat if it was the Labour candidate. My MP doesn’t even bother answering letters she’s so smug regarding her safe seat.

Ceinwen2 · 24/04/2018 22:59

I'm Labour Party member, and to be honest, I have never heard genuinely anti semitic remarks in Labour meetings. I have heard pro Palestinian remarks labelled as anti semitic. Palestinians are semitic, too. There are large numbers of religious and non-religious jews who support the Palestinian's case against the govt of Israel .

Efrig · 24/04/2018 23:00

Anti zionists oppose Israel’s political activities. Anti semites hate Jewish people.

LeslieKnopefan · 24/04/2018 23:01

The problem is Corbyn has attracted a hard left element that Labour took years to get rid of. With these people come some very nasty views with many examples on twitter

It certainly isn’t made up by the right wing press

DerelictWreck · 24/04/2018 23:03

Anti Zionist is NOT the same as Anti Semitic, but people like to conflate the two and cry anti semitic at anything criticising Israel, which lessens the strength of the term 'anti-semitic'.

OP in your post I assume you meant some of the labour party?

Efrig · 24/04/2018 23:03

The hard left and the hard right have much in common.

IntelligentYetIndecisive · 24/04/2018 23:05

They don't believe they're wrong.

Efrig · 24/04/2018 23:05

I think antizionism is a path which can lead to antisemitism. Some people will use it as a reason to hate Jewish people.

Charley50 · 24/04/2018 23:05

Personally I think it's a massive smear campaign. I'm no conspiracy theorist but I watch Homeland think they they've been infiltrated by people who want to bring the Labour Party down and make it unelectable, who are posing as Labour supporting anti-Semites.

I've got very left wing, very politically active Jewish friends, who say it's conflated rubbish.
Pro-Palestine and anti Semitic are two different things.

Corbyn spent Passover with A Jewish community, but of course according to the media, they were the wrong type of Jews.

ErrolTheDragon · 24/04/2018 23:05

I think perhaps they started off as being anti Zionist then it drifted into anti semitism. They hate women as well.

It does seem as though particular bile has been directed at female Jewish MPs, also at the wife of an mp who criticised antisemitism.

ilovesooty · 24/04/2018 23:06

Semantic?

Notthemessiah · 24/04/2018 23:08

Anti-Zionist or being critical of Israel is not anti-Semitism, though it's often used as an excuse by both pro-Israeli supporters to shutdown any criticism of Israeli policy whilst genuine anti-Semites will also try and pretend that they are just anti-israel. I tend to think that most of this stuff is being used to silence a fairly prominent pro-palestinian faction on the left of the labour party and at the same time make the whole party look as bad as possible, led by our mostly right wing press. Corbyn though has handled it all very poorly (that mural, really!).

jnfrrss · 24/04/2018 23:12

Doesn't that depend on what you are critical about? Critial of Israel government not AS but denying the Jewish people a homeland is AS?

OP posts:
Ceinwen2 · 24/04/2018 23:19

Someone said earlier that the dictionary defined "anti semitic" as being against the Jews having a homeland. I looked it up. It doesn't . It means dislike of Jews.Jeremy Corbin is not anti-Semitic. He is against the way the State of Israel was set up, and it's expansion to exclude much of it's native population. It's a European Left Thing.

Heyduggeesflipflop · 24/04/2018 23:30

Jeremy Corbyn is a very nice man. Nice to the point of naive. He isn’t a leader though, which is a problem. I doubt he is anti Semitic, but I do think he has spent far too much time around those who are.

The far left attracts as many fruit loops as the far right. The real question is how far left labour are going to be dragged by its largely London/ metropolitan fan base.
