Wibu to buy this dress even if I know it won't fit me (yet!)?

Dp and I have finally decided on a wedding date so I'm now looking at wedding dresses!

I've found one that I absolutely love, it is my dream dress. Has all the elements I want and is just generally bloody stunning. It may sound silly but also the dress' 'name' just happens to be that of a very close family member who passed away last year and it feels like a nice way of including her in our day.

The only problem is..its an 'old' dress from 2016 that has now been discontinued so they are not making them anymore. Its unlikely I'm going to be able to go to a bridal shop and try it on to see if it fits my shape and is flattering.

I have found one online, in the UK (quite difficult, most of the ones I've seen online are from America or Australia, which adds £££'s in shipping fees), and its within my price range!!

But its a size 8 and I'm a size 16 Sad

I do want to lose weight (I am trying) and I have over 2 years before the big day but if I don't lose the weight or its unflattering on me then I've just wasted a few hundred pounds that I can't really afford.

Wibu to buy it anyway, given that its a £1700 dress new and is on sale for a fraction of that and just hope that I eventually fit into it? Or would it be a silly waste of money?

Well done Cantaana and Op
Brilliant outcome

thelastredwinegum · 25/04/2018 12:22

Brilliant news - I'll cross everything for you!

Cantaana · 25/04/2018 12:26

Oh Yay!! So glad it worked out.

For those who asked I searched the designer and name of the dress on Facebook public posts. Scrolled through til I found a post by a UK dress shop and then went on their website to check their sale page. As luck would have it the second shop I found had the size 14!

So so happy for you @sharkirasharkira i love it when mumsnet solves the puzzle and so pleased I could help 😁

What a brilliant thread Grin

ZoSanDesu · 25/04/2018 13:38

Fabulous!! Put a smile right on my face!!

YippeeTipTap · 25/04/2018 13:48

Wow, what a great thread. I was thinking it was a bit sad at first as the drop to size 8 was too much then I saw how lovely the dress was and I felt even sadder 😭😭😭. I was going to post that there would be other lovely dresses but when I saw the dress I could see why you want it.

Anyway please, please update us and let us know if it works out.

JacintaJones · 25/04/2018 14:16

I'm so glad that I read to the end of this thread.

Marvellous 👏

SaucyJane · 25/04/2018 14:18

Brilliant!!! Much better than trying to design one along the same lines or finding a similar one, as you'd always have been comparing :)

2rebecca · 25/04/2018 14:29

That sounds more sensible than hating yourself because you can't get down to a size 8. I'm normal BMI and fit and active but am usually 12-14. 8 is tiny. I am 5'8 though

TroubledLichen · 25/04/2018 14:31

What a brilliant conclusion!!

From experience, I ended up buying a dress that was so not what I thought I wanted.

The cool dress I thought I wanted looked ok but was no where near as flattering as the one I ended up with.

Go to a bridal shop and try on some styles. They’ll have something similar to that.
Or why not just work at the weight loss and find a dressmaker to make it for you.

PootlingPombo · 25/04/2018 19:25

Oh fab!! Enjoy your lovely dress!

2018SoFarSoGreat · 25/04/2018 19:40

wonderful outcome, thanks for the update. So hope it fits and you look amazing.

GinaCarbonara · 25/04/2018 19:45

Hooray! Great thanks ending!

Bonus points if you remember to update in two years with pictures!

Mummadeeze · 25/04/2018 19:52

I was a size 14 and asked for my bridesmaid dress in a 10 to help me lose weight. My sister would have killed me if it hadn’t fitted as I was living in Australia and flew back the week of the wedding so there would have been no time to get it altered. It was great inspiration and I exercised a lot every day for 6 months and ate v v low calorie and I did make it. But I could never have got to a size 8, 10 is the thinnest I have ever been. I am taller than you though. If you have 2 years it could be the incentive you need to shift all your weight but you need a back up plan. Best of luck with it!

Mummadeeze · 25/04/2018 19:53

Sorry, hadn’t read the update!

sharkirasharkira · 26/04/2018 15:06

I have the web page open in my browser still, I keep going and looking at it Grin I'm so excited!

I did forget to ask which colour it is though as there are 2 options but tbh I don't mind which it is, both would be lovely I think Smile
