Wibu to buy this dress even if I know it won't fit me (yet!)?

Dp and I have finally decided on a wedding date so I'm now looking at wedding dresses!

I've found one that I absolutely love, it is my dream dress. Has all the elements I want and is just generally bloody stunning. It may sound silly but also the dress' 'name' just happens to be that of a very close family member who passed away last year and it feels like a nice way of including her in our day.

The only problem is..its an 'old' dress from 2016 that has now been discontinued so they are not making them anymore. Its unlikely I'm going to be able to go to a bridal shop and try it on to see if it fits my shape and is flattering.

I have found one online, in the UK (quite difficult, most of the ones I've seen online are from America or Australia, which adds £££'s in shipping fees), and its within my price range!!

But its a size 8 and I'm a size 16 Sad

I do want to lose weight (I am trying) and I have over 2 years before the big day but if I don't lose the weight or its unflattering on me then I've just wasted a few hundred pounds that I can't really afford.

Wibu to buy it anyway, given that its a £1700 dress new and is on sale for a fraction of that and just hope that I eventually fit into it? Or would it be a silly waste of money?

It is a Maggie dress but I've looked and I can't find any dress shops in my country who stock her dresses! Not even close unfortunately Sad

As Cantaana said isn't it illegal to copy someone else's design? I wouldn't necessarily mind having something similar but part of what I loved about that dress is the design of the lace, all the flowers and leaves, surely they wouldn't be able to recreate that? I've never had a dress main so I have no idea!

Ohhh poo i just assumed you were in the UK, sorry!

TSSDNCOP · 24/04/2018 19:21

Cantaana whatever you're doing now, the bridal business is less good without you in it.

Cantaana · 24/04/2018 19:21

But they might still ship it to you, you can only ask!

Fluffyears · 24/04/2018 19:22

Wed2b have very similar dresses so take a look in there.

Isadora666 · 24/04/2018 19:22

Size 8 can be tiny on a large or muscular frame, you might never achieve that. I wouldn't risk it!

SaucyJane · 24/04/2018 19:24

Cantaana you are a miracle worker!!

Fluffyears · 24/04/2018 19:24

Bits like the belt can be added as mine was added during the alterations.

sharkirasharkira · 24/04/2018 19:25

Ahhhh thats the one! I'm going to message them now Grin

Thank you so much!!

16 to 8 is quite a difference. I’d hate for you to be disappointed when the wedding comes around. It could be possible in a two year period, although do bare in mind you could be a happy size 8 and STILL not love how the dress looks because it may not be a flattering cut etc just like any other clothing - it’s risky.

If you do buy the dress, are you prepared to commit to changing your lifestyle? Ie in terms of what you eat and how much you exercise. Would you be prepared to get a personal trainer, meal plan etc. If not, I wouldn’t get the dress

Cantaana · 24/04/2018 19:26

Have a look at this shop: www.wed2b.co.uk/georgette

I bought my sparkly belt on ebay from China. Noone knew it cost £5 instead of £70.

Find the dress, then look for the belt.

Littlechocola · 24/04/2018 19:55

Look at the French collection by Wendy makin. She does some quite similar.

You’ll make yourself unwell.

stopfuckingshoutingatme · 24/04/2018 20:05

That’s a HUGE leap

A bridal size 8 is more like a modern day high-street 4/6. Don't do it, you'll just make yourself miserable.

kaytee87 · 24/04/2018 20:11

Oh I really hope you manage to get the dress in a size 14, that's much more realistic Smile

sharkirasharkira · 24/04/2018 20:11

I'm certainly going to try! I've sent them a message and I'm waiting to hear back from them Grin

GinaCarbonara · 24/04/2018 20:30

My size 12 wedding dress is an actual 12. Just mentioning in case you come across one in a 10 or a 12, it won't definitely be a small size. My dress was a Novia d'Art and was satin, very clingy and like I say true t high street size which to be honest is not true to what sizes should be I guess.
