Better than that old style Werther's original, just slips out of the cellophane... Shooting off in some random direction.

TartanDr3ams · 24/04/2018 12:41

Wait, i'm meant to wipe mushrooms????

MyFamilyAndOtherAnimals1 · 24/04/2018 12:48

@Luna - nah, just shoogle them up and down in some water.... if you remember Hmm

nocake · 24/04/2018 13:08

Artichokes. Just no... why would you bother? So much work for so little reward.

PerfectlySymmetricalButtocks · 24/04/2018 13:11

MyFamily but then they get all waterlogged! Shock

MaMisled · 24/04/2018 13:13

Love oranges but end up soaked in juice! Hurts when it squirts in your eye or a cut on your hand.

My mother wouldn't let me grate cheese because she hated washing up the grater.

Green beans are a faff too. The ends fly everywhere when I chop them off!

Onlyoldontheoutside · 24/04/2018 13:24

I wash carrots and potatoes,I no longer peel, life is too short.
Yes to that paper stuck on drums sticks and refreshers.

KurriKurri · 24/04/2018 13:25

I don't mind the little easy peel oranges 0r the really big ones with thick skin. it's the in betweeners I hate - the skin is welded to the fruit.
I eat quite a lot of tinned oranges to save peeling Grin

I don;t peel potatoes very often (cook in their jackets or boil the little new ones in thier skins)

Jerusalem artichokes you have to cook first then take the skins off otherwise they are inpossible.

To be honest - I hate all food preparation and cooking - if I won the lottery I would hire a cook and never do it again.

ShotsFired · 24/04/2018 13:27

I do a massive pile of oranges in one go. You can sort of get a system going, chop chop chop, peel peel peel. None of that fannying about one at a time.

I have a box of nicely peeled segments sat in the fridge right now!

Peanutbuttercups21 · 24/04/2018 13:33

I have often noticed that people don't know the "proper" Wink way to peel an orange!

You need a small knife

Cut off the top of the orange, try to judge it so you only cut off the peel and not too.much of the flesh. Now cut along top to bottom (just peel, not too deep) in 4 places.

Now lift the the four bits of peel off, 1 by 1.

It is very easy like that and does not kill your nails Grin

Herja · 24/04/2018 13:33

MaMisled use a pair of kitchen scissors. Hold a bunch of 10 or so in your fist, snip directly over the compost caddy. Turn them over and tap them down so the ends are together again and repeat.

palmfronds · 24/04/2018 13:33

I peel oranges with a knife, then chop up and eat from a bowl with a fork. I may be weird though.

QueenOfMyWorld · 24/04/2018 13:34

Cut the orange into quarters then pull away from the side with peel on,should come away easily. Also I use a potato peeler for cheese as it goes further and is a lot quicker

MaMisled · 24/04/2018 13:35

Herja thankyou, you make it sound so simple!

BitOutOfPractice · 24/04/2018 13:36

I loathe peeling potatoes (feel slike drudgery) but I like peeling carrots and parsnips (very satisfying)

TinklyLittleLaugh · 24/04/2018 13:39

We just chop our oranges up and eat them in wedges, half time football match style. Never consider peeling them.

BeGoodAnnie · 24/04/2018 14:07

You need one of these. I remember a tupperware one at home when I was a child. I got one as an adult and DS uses it all the time. You can get them on ebay for about 99p.

Toddlerteaplease · 24/04/2018 14:39

I hate peeling oranges, so I peel them the night before and cling film them to take to work. My colleagues think it's hilarious!

TartanDr3ams · 24/04/2018 14:51

Some great tips on here!

I hate peeling potatoes but the skins give me -the shits- terrible belly ache so i cant eat them rustic. I have started microwaving them, slicing in half and squeezing the middle out and mashing that though instead of peeling, chopping, boiling, mashing haha.

Grilledaubergines · 24/04/2018 14:51

Swede. Like peeling a bullet. But I love it so buy ready chopped.

IHaveACuntingPlan · 24/04/2018 14:56

I just cut the oranges into quarters and find the peel comes off really easily then.
I hate any kind of food prep so I do as little as possible. I don't peel potatoes if I'm boiling or roasting them. I buy fresh mash, frozen diced onions, frozen sliced peppers, frozen sliced mushrooms etc.

KC225 · 24/04/2018 15:10

Agree with Laurie, butternut squash is hard work and leaves a weirdnfewlibg in your hands

UnaOfStormhold · 24/04/2018 16:02

This thread is reminding me of Cranford:

“When oranges came in, a curious proceeding was gone through. Miss Jenkyns did not like to cut the fruit, for, as she observed, the juice all ran out nobody knew where, sucking [only I think she used some more recondite word] was in fact the only way of enjoying oranges; but then there was the unpleasant association with a ceremony frequently gone through by little babies; and so, after dessert, in orange season, Miss Jenkyns and Miss Matty used to rise up, possess themselves each of an orange in silence, and withdraw to the privacy of their own rooms to indulge in sucking oranges.”
