To get ragey at people booking seats for a flight

And leaving the window seat AngryAngry seriously if you're a couple book the inside two seats, it's so frustrating.

Also what determines if an infant can sit on a particular seat, I've just selected my seats for the flight and me and hubby have to sit one behind the other in window seats because my daughter apparently can't sit in that row 🙄

user1487881523 (hunk that makes it bold?

No it wasn’t directed at you I was just answering the original poster - sorry I didn’t realise it would look like I was replying to the person who posted before me!

MarcellaBackland · 22/04/2018 21:24

YABU for using the word hubby.

And everything else too.

PeachyPeachTrees · 22/04/2018 21:31

I have restless legs and knees that lock up if I don't stretch them often or get up and down a lot. If I can't get the extra leg room seats I always go for an aisle seat. I always get an aisle seat in cinema and theatre too.

goodeyebrows · 22/04/2018 22:16

There are only 4 oxygen masks in any row of 3 seats so if there is already an infant booked in that row you can’t book another infant.

BarbaraofSevillle · 22/04/2018 22:25

Some rows of seats don't have the extra oxygen mask. We were moved to other seats so they could put a couple with a baby in our seats for this reason. The seats were otherwise virtually identical so it was of no consequence to us.

This has been covered about 15 times in this thread - move in

Tentomidnight · 22/04/2018 22:29

YABU to want a seat in the front half of the plane. My geeky DC tells me that you are statistically more likely to survive an ‘incident’ if you are sitting in the rear half, within 5 rows of an exit Wink

BarbaraofSevillle · 22/04/2018 22:37

Everyone dies in most plane crashes so the survival statistics are probably quite weak. Plus the fact that virtually all planes successfully reach their destination. The chances of being in a plane crash and surviving are probably lower than winning the lottery.

YippeeTipTap · 22/04/2018 22:53

BarbaraofSevillle

I think that’s incorrect information. You are actually far more likely to survive a plane crash than to die in a plane crash.

lhastingsmakeup · 22/04/2018 22:56

If I was traveling by myself I’d rather the window seat honestly. Something to look at, and you don’t have strangers either side of you. But of course if you need easy access to the bathroom etc I can see why you’d prefer the aisles

Lweji · 22/04/2018 23:30

You are more likely to survive a crash at the back

Unless the engines catch fire.
I'm that much of a geek.

JanKind · 22/04/2018 23:52

Yep YABU

harmfultohealth · 23/04/2018 02:30

I always book the aisle and the middle too, as I like to be able to get out as and when I want to. I actually think this is the considerate approach - so you don't have to disturb a stranger in the aisle every time you want to get up.

Not a plane, but years ago I was a National Express Coach overnight to Scotland. Everyone knows, to get a decent seat then you showed up early. A young couple got on late and kicked up a stink because they couldn't sit together. I was by the window to sleep but got up and moved so they could sit together. But they were so obnoxious.

We stopped at the services and told to be back by a certain time after which the coach was leaving. They didn't get back on in time and the coach drove off without them - all their possessions on board.

No-one said anything - I think because they had so obnoxious at the start. I often wonder their reaction to get back to the parking space to see the coach had left without them and all their stuff!!

BasiliskStare · 23/04/2018 03:11

Do you do much flying OP ? Grin - if economy, book seats early & pay accordingly if you are fussed. I many years ago took Ds on a transatlantic flight and it was economy seating , but by booking early got a bassinet seat - not sure if they still exist ( he is now 21 and 6 foot tall - he now books an aisle seat for leg room if economy even if alone ) Oh and if you or other parent are one row behind the good news is it will be so close that pretty much like DC sitting on your lap. Sorry if that sounds unkind - I do not mean it to but - unless this is long haul , you can probably manage and if you don't like it - book earlier next time. Frequent fliers ( by which I mean people who fly regularly - not a card thing ) in economy tend to get their seats in early IME.

BasiliskStare · 23/04/2018 03:23

Oh I fallen for it haven't I ? A perennial topic Grin Hope you enjoy wherever you are going OP Smile I am guessing from plane layout it is short haul.

fia101 · 23/04/2018 03:30

I'd happily have my two small ones in different aisles to me if possible and would deny all knowledge of them as they screamed for duration of flight.

GrinAndTonic · 23/04/2018 03:43

I think you've figured out by now that YABU.
I prefer the aisle seat for a few reasons but mainly because I like to get up and stretch, I can cross my legs, and because if we have to evacuate the plane quickly there is no way I am waiting for the aisle and middle seat passengers to move, heroism be damned.

TheMonkeyMummy · 23/04/2018 05:40

There are bigger things in life to worry about. Get a grip.

HelpTheTigers · 23/04/2018 12:40

I had no idea that this was a 'thing'!

We always book window and middle seats and I had assumed (obviously incorrectly!) that those were the seats that others would prefer too.

I've learned something new today and won't feel quite so guilty for hogging the window seat again. Smile

Libbie001 · 23/04/2018 13:29

I always try and book aisle and window. Reason is often no-one books the middle seat unless the plane is packed so we get the middle seat to ourselves so get more space. If someone does book the middle seat, we ask if they mind moving.

expatinscotland · 23/04/2018 13:49

'If someone does book the middle seat, we ask if they mind moving.'

So you can get a free seat? Where exactly are they supposed to go?

BarbaraofSevillle · 23/04/2018 14:07

Well most people wouldn't mind giving up the middle seat for the aisle or window seat instead, which is what I assume is what Libbie meant.

Who takes the middle seat by choice? It's the least popular seat, which is why it's what you get with Ryanair, unless you pay to choose another one.

ILikeMyChickenFried · 23/04/2018 14:14

Haha libbie.

I recently took a very long flight where the couple in front did just that. The middle seat dweller refused to move and they sulked for the whole flight

BarbaraofSevillle · 23/04/2018 14:17

New way to fuck with people on planes. If you find yourself between a couple who have cleared booked window and aisle in the hope of getting the whole row to themselves, refuse to move and if they talk across you, or spend time passing drinks, snacks etc back and forth, offer to accompany them to the toilet for a threesome. Might put them off doing the same thing again.
