To get ragey at people booking seats for a flight

And leaving the window seat AngryAngry seriously if you're a couple book the inside two seats, it's so frustrating.

Also what determines if an infant can sit on a particular seat, I've just selected my seats for the flight and me and hubby have to sit one behind the other in window seats because my daughter apparently can't sit in that row 🙄

You’d hate me then because I either book two aisle seats or more often I book our two seats then the third seat under one of my kids names and check them in online even tho they aren’t coming so the seat is ours and then we have the whole row 😎
Only figured that one out the few times my kids genuinely couldn’t come at the last minute and realised it’s totally worth paying it to get the space .

Doobigetta · 22/04/2018 19:25

The last time I flew we were a bit slow to get around to booking our seats and couldn't find two together, so I ended up in an aisle seat with a couple in the middle and window seats. For the first time in ages I was lucky and they were very nice and polite and considerate, and it made SO much difference to the comfort level of the flight. A bit of give and take makes such a huge difference to everyone.

TheYesWoman · 22/04/2018 19:29

It’s weird how people don’t realise that if the person in front of them reclines, they can also recline! Grin

PoorYorick · 22/04/2018 19:32

If you're paying for the extra seat, it's up to you what you do with it. Would be considerate not to do it on a full flight at a busy time though.

GreenTulips · 22/04/2018 19:33

And those desperate to sit at the front? You are more likely to survive a crash at the back. There's an exit just as close as the front and more likely where you find the crew.

Loonoon · 22/04/2018 19:35

MY DH and I always book window (me) and aisle (him) leaving the middle one free in the hope that no-one takes it. It is not always successful but it's great when it works. But really I don't much care where I sit. If I did I'd cough up and pay in advance.

This is true, but if the plane falls out of the sky at 20,000 feet, it's probably all going to be much of a muchness.

sassyannie · 22/04/2018 19:54

I've just returned from Oz not having flown so far for well over twenty years. I was allocated a window seat for one leg of the outward trip.. hadn't prepaid for any seats...had to keep budging a retired couple to go to the loo. They were decidedly reluctant to move the final time It was however, fabulous to see Sydney at dawn as we were coming in to land.......however, as soon as I had computer access, I rapidly prepaid for an aisle seat for the return trip........

It’s almost as if people don’t live to please you

bloomsburyer · 22/04/2018 19:56

If I'm travelling alone I always book the window seat.

I never use the loo on planes and I don't want to have to keep getting up and down for other people so the window seat is the best choice.

AlonsosLeftPinky · 22/04/2018 20:00

Wouldn't have been me. I'm capable of going the length of a flight without needing to chat to my husband.

AlonsosLeftPinky · 22/04/2018 20:01

Statistically speaking, you're no more or less likely to survive a crash depending on where you sit. Or there's hardly anything in it.

UnRavellingFast · 22/04/2018 20:03

Arguably, people who book aisle and window hoping the middle will stay empty are cheeky at worst

Great idea! I'll try and remember that ....Wink

lily2403 · 22/04/2018 20:03

@ChippyMinton
I would have climbed over them not caring if I disturbed them
OP YABU and beyond ridiculous

You would hate us then. We book an aisle seat each grin

We always do this too.

bimbobaggins · 22/04/2018 20:08

I would happily get up and down a 100 times to let people go to the toilet rather than be stuck at the window. I don’t sleep on planes anyway.

UnRavellingFast · 22/04/2018 20:09

@sleep5 It's often an indicator of who is the boss in a relationship as they'll be in the aisle or window seat and the other person in the middle seat.

Not necessarily true- when with my ex, I would prefer him in aisle, he would get all the irritation of the hustle and bustle of the aisle while I got a good kip in the middle and didn't have to worry about disturbing him to get out.

.... or longer legs, back problems, IBS or health issues.

You'd hate our family. Me and DS2 both have aisle seats on opposite ends of the aisle, and DH and DS1 have the window seats in those aisles. There's always a seat in the middle for us that some poor bugger ends up in because they waited too long to book.

I couldn't care less tbh - I hate flying and want to be as comfortable as possible. I'm getting up at 6am to book the tickets, so I'll sit where I like - I'm paying for it!

BabychamSocialist · 22/04/2018 20:23

*sides of the aisle, that should say.

Aragog · 22/04/2018 20:42

@sleep5 It's often an indicator of who is the boss in a relationship as they'll be in the aisle or window seat and the other person in the middle seat.

For us it's more to do with who has the most discomfort. Dh is tall, so an aisle is better for him. I'm short, so leg room isn't a factor. I prefer a window in some ways as I can lean against it. I'm not bothered about the aisle so much. At present it's not an issue as we have dd who goes in the middle. When it's just the two of us we will probably pay for premium as it's often just two seats either side so we both get what we prefer. Otherwise we will try for exit seats/extra leg room or, if can't, I'll go for the middle - dh incurs more discomfort from lack of leg room a esp is someone reclines (reclining his own seat won't help that problem) than I would from being in the middle.

Jaxhog · 22/04/2018 20:43

Count yourselves lucky, I move heaven and earth to get a window seat. (My lovely hubby takes the middle seat, bless him)
