Just got back from Disney World in Florida and had a fab time (not even got kids!) safe to say I am a Disney fan Grin

EnidButton · 20/04/2018 15:48

I like people who know what they like and just go for it without fretting about what they should like or what other people will say. I might not be into whatever they are, but there's something really cool about a person surrounding themselves with things that bring them joy, whilst giving zero shits about what someone else is doing.

A unicorn loving, mermaid tail wearing, glittery Disney lover is a much nicer person to be around than an uptight, judgemental, stickler for the invisible rules of adulthood.

Stick that in your unicorn horn and smoke it.

CrappySunday · 20/04/2018 15:57

Read the whole thread and I'm really curious as to what are acceptable 'adult' interests? And how would a home be decorated to 'adult' taste?
I don't mean these questions aggressively, genuinely curious what people's view is.

Nikephorus · 20/04/2018 16:35

I think OP needs to go to Disneyland Paris and ride It's A Small World till she can't stop humming the tune and feeling good about life Grin

Deshasafraisy · 20/04/2018 17:33

I’m not talkinh about going to Disneyland enjoying it then leaving, or watching a film, enjoying it then carrying on with life.
I’m talking about the women who make it part of daily life, talk about it, dress it, decorate their life with it and “squeeeeee” when they find a new piece of Disney tat in primark.
I’m not completely blind to the appealing nature of Disney as entertainment but I can’t understand choosing it as a lifestyle.

YANBU

ICantCopeAnymore · 20/04/2018 17:39

You can't understand it - so what? You don't have to understand it.

Same as I don't understand those who judge others based on their clothes, ornaments, makeup or anything else they choose to do with their lives.

But then I'm not a miserable pissweasel Smile

Soubriquet · 20/04/2018 17:40

Why does it bother you?

It doesn't affect you does it?

I like what I like. You like what you like and look at that, you receive no consequences because of it Hmm

UnicornRainbowColours · 20/04/2018 17:43

Because life is too short to be boring :)

Deshasafraisy · 20/04/2018 17:48

I don’t know why it bothers me but it does! Maybe because I’m a miserable piss weasel Grin
I like my new title!

miserable piss weasel

Grin Maybe that could be Disney's next big film. Imagine the merchandise.

There's loads of things people like that I think Hmm about but I say nothing because it doesn't affect my life at all. I bet they're wtf about things I love too.

Soubriquet · 20/04/2018 18:04

Oooo can you create a miserable piss weasel duvet cover

It sounds fab Grin

ICantCopeAnymore · 20/04/2018 18:06

I'd so buy that Grin

ShowerGel9 · 20/04/2018 18:21

I like disney. I collect disney.

It reminds me of a time when I was a child and things were free and easy.

BlondeB83 · 20/04/2018 18:23

I love Disney! Not so much fairies and unicorns though...

ificouldwritealettertome · 20/04/2018 21:56

women who make it part of daily life, talk about it, dress it, decorate their life with it and “squeeeeee” when they find a new piece of Disney tat in primark

Stop watching me in my private life!!!

LipstickHandbagCoffee · 20/04/2018 22:03

Ahh yes Disney world Florida or Paris that ghastly rite of passage
Sure my kids are aware of it,asked can we go?classmate/bff goes.oh please
not for me or my kids.simply said no,it’s overpriced rubbish.decision final we are not going

MissEliza · 20/04/2018 22:07

I love unicorns and rainbows Blushbut i don't get the whole Disney thing. I had a colleague who was obsessed with Minnie Mouse. She was so annoying.

screamativemom · 21/04/2018 02:46

What about those reborn dolls?

AnotherQuoll · 21/04/2018 03:07

Yeah I don't get it either, OP. And the fact that you and I don't get it shouldn't mean we're immediately taken as being angry about it or in any hate campaign. I just don't get it, and that kind of thing interests me. Because I don't get it.

I suppose it's akin to adult men with cartoon, superhero and scifi/magical dragons gear all over everything they own. Escapism for a variety of reasons, I guess. e.g. Nostalgia, adult stress, to fit in with friends, to seem unique etc

PatchworkWomble · 21/04/2018 03:46

Reading your initial post I definitely had you down as a miserable piss weasel! Now that I've read your elaborations though, you are describing people who are entirely obsessed. This can be difficult to understand regardless of age, sex or subjects of obsession but still, I think YABU Grin

VivaldisViolin · 21/04/2018 03:58

Actually, there is a lot more to Disney than sparkly merchandise. The phenomenal success arises from the serious underlying themes - innocence, good and evil etc - which so many relate to. I suspect, with hindsight, Disney/Walt will be one of the classics/leading figures of the twentieth century.

My DD has just been awarded full funding from Cambridge to undertake a PHD in a Disney related subject, following on from her Masters there, for which she won an award for the best thesis. Believe it or not, it is a serious and highly respected academic subject.

In the meantime, I enjoy telling people that DD has a Mickey Mouse degree from Cambridge! (And I can still go to the Disney store to buy Christmas presents etc, just like when she was a child!)

Bananamanfan · 21/04/2018 07:41

I had a 'helpful' friend ask me (in front of dcs) why we aren't going to Disneyland when we go on holiday to France (5 hours away from Paris). Now DD, who was previously excited about the holiday, keeps asking. -She doesn't like any Disney films.

NotACleverName · 21/04/2018 07:49

Some people really are Dementors in human form; they have to suck the joy and happiness out of everything.
