Grown ups who likes Disney do make me cringe to be honest. But then I still have a teddy bear so shouldn't judge!

ICantCopeAnymore · 21/04/2018 09:02

Nostalgia, adult stress, to fit in with friends, to seem unique etc

Or... Just because they like them Hmm

Imnoth3r3 · 21/04/2018 10:05

WTF is wrong with unicorns!?!

ificouldwritealettertome · 21/04/2018 10:11

there's something really cool about a person surrounding themselves with things that bring them joy, whilst giving zero shits about what someone else is doing.

This!!

Deshasafraisy · 21/04/2018 14:20

I love the assumption that because adults that live their lives through Disney tinted glasses makes me squirm, it means I am completely miserable and devoid of joy! 😂

Does it matter?

30 year old here who loves Disney and goes to Disneyworld every 2 years!

I don't like the whole unicorn phase but meh, people like what they like and that's fine.

nevereverhaveieverfeltsolow · 21/04/2018 16:04

Pretty tragic, and they love to vlog on you tube about a lovely (tacky) rainbow/unicorn/Disney Tshirt they found....

Babyroobs · 21/04/2018 16:18

There is a whole gaggle of them at my work place who post Unicorn things on fb and all they talk about is Disney ! YANBU it's ridiculous. I guess they may just need a bit of escapism though.

Peachypeaches · 21/04/2018 17:07

For me I think it’s that I didn’t have anything like that when I was a child/teen. We weren’t poor but my dad didn’t want us to be “spoilt”, and everything I had was practical and functional, nothing frivolous or fun. When I went to live with my mum when I was 16 all my clothes, shoes and possessions fitted into a medium sized suitcase. That was all I had. So now if something is fluffy, pastel coloured, cute or glittery I just love it!

perfectstorm · 21/04/2018 17:32

I don't like it. But some of the best people I know do. I dunno. I don't really care either way, but I do find it odd to mind. Life is short and joy should be found wherever people like, IMO, if it's harmless.

mancmummy1414 · 21/04/2018 17:38

OP I agree with you! There’s nothing tedious or boring about having an opinion. I too hate the notion that all women should agree with and support all other women. I don’t want to be agreeable, if something pisses me off I have to rant about it.
I have a girl who I went to school with on Facebook who is obsessed with Disney, constantly counting down to the next Disney holiday (with her parents, who she lives with, in a bedroom with pop star posters ALL over the walls that she posts proudly on social media about...)
We are in our 30s...

mancmummy1414 · 21/04/2018 17:39

Women who go on about disney I find are cut from the same cloth as women who post minion memes Angry

Ellenripleysalienbaby · 21/04/2018 17:47

OK, I am one of those women you speak of - not so much Disney, but I am in my mid thirties and I like unicorn stuff, glittery shit (although not on my wine glass!), rainbows, Tatty Devine type plastic jewellery, IC shoes all that. I can't really help it, I just like what I like!

But what I don't do is make a big song and dance about it like some women do, especially about Disney/Hello Kitty type stuff. Like on FB will post a picture of some kind of Disney themed adults T shirt or dress with the caption 'need', but like all the time. It's just too 'look at me, look how quirky, cute and just that little bit crazy I am'.

No.

Deathraystare · 21/04/2018 17:55

Teddies and dollies ? (I'm not talking the odd one either) .....my SIL has a vast collection of stuffed toys which are sea creatures

I think it is creepy when they have loads of teddies /dolls. I was watching QVC when they had those Charlie bears on. Now some of the teddies I like but it is a very slippery slope....... I have a small room and have a 'Cartman' (from South Park) and a minion figure. That is as far as I go!

HippityHoppityWho · 21/04/2018 17:55

I don't get people who like Star Wars, Dr Who and all that sci fi bollocks but do I care? No, as long as they don't try to make me like it too.

simiisme · 21/04/2018 17:59

I find it weird that people are so snotty and superior about harmless pleasures.
And no, unicorns etc are not my cup of tea, but my friends who like them are sweet, happy people. And they don't knock things that other people like.

Deathraystare · 21/04/2018 18:02

For some reason I have started to think about my old Sindy and Tressie dolls! I no longer have them.

mygrandchildrenrock · 21/04/2018 18:06

HippityHoppityWho How can you not get us! Grin

April241 · 21/04/2018 18:06

I don’t understand people who don’t understand that not everyone is the same Confused

I’m 31, mum to twins, work full time and love Disney and unicorns. Also massive planner addict and love stickers, meh...doesn’t harm anyone!

April241 · 21/04/2018 18:06

Oh and rainbow coloured stickers are my favourite.

Dita73 · 21/04/2018 18:15

I’ll tell you what’s really pissing me off and that’s the love of pineapples and flamingos. I’ve been doing up my living room and absolutely everything (lamps, cushions, rugs, etc) is covered in them. I keep swearing in shops. I’m going to get arrested

TatianaLarina · 21/04/2018 18:15

I hear ya OP. I loathe and detest Disney. That horrible vulgar macabre castle.

We have stunning real castles all over Europe that are genuinely magical - steeped in history and culture. Not populated with adults dresses as furries.

The whole thing turns my stomach.

StellaWouldYouTakeMeHome · 21/04/2018 18:16

As long as it’s not hurting anyone it’s no ones business is it. ‘Grown Women’ can like whatever they want. I’m 30 and still have my favourite band posters should I take those down since I’m a ‘grown up’ now??

HippityHoppityWho · 21/04/2018 18:20

@TatianaLarina- Disney is fantasy not real life, comparing the two doesn't make any sense.

Lillyringlet · 21/04/2018 18:20

I don't get people watch soaps or football, wear leopard print or fake fur but that is about taste.

For me Disney films are a nice escape from life, songs to sing (because there are not enough musical films these days), beautiful art, incredible technology advances and something that can be enjoyed with my little girl.

Just because you don't like it doesn't mean that it isn't something you can piss on for someone else liking. Hey at least my little girl can have someone interested in watching the same film over and over, sing the songs with our chat about it with real interest... And I'm happy
