To think a lot of people dont actually wash fruit?

Or are me and 90% of my colleagues gross?

Got some strawberries, blueberries and grapes on my break earlier and just plonked the punnets on my desk and told my workmates to help themselves.. a few people dive in, a quick thanks and back to work.

One colleague just made the monster of all fusses over the fact that ive not washed all said fruit and put into bowls and i quote "its absolutely barbaric that youre expecting people to eat right from the punnet they came in".

Maybe i should wash the fruit.. or maybe if you want to dig into my fruit you can wash it yourself?

I've never washed fruit.

And never will....

scurryfunge · 17/04/2018 14:15

I don’t. Still alive.

BrightYellowDaffodil · 17/04/2018 14:17

I don't and I've lived to tell the tale so far. Had a friend tell me recently that fruit needed to be washed if it's been in a plastic container "to get the taste of plastic off". Huh?

MereDintofPandiculation · 17/04/2018 14:18

I don't wash fruit. But I do wash fruit if I have guests, because I know a lot of people do want it washed.

PinkHeart5914 · 17/04/2018 14:18

I have never washed fruit and my household are all still alive 🤷🏻‍♀️

You didn’t force people to eat it, if she wanted it washed she could of helped herself to some and run it under the tap

Bluelady · 17/04/2018 14:18

What a shocking imposition to buy fruit, generously share it with colleagues and expect them to actually wash it for themselves! I hope you'll wear sackcloth and ashes for the rest of the week, OP!

BusterTheBulldog · 17/04/2018 14:18

I don’t either. Just contemplating how annoyed my husband will be if I eat ALL of the massive punnet

RatRolyPoly · 17/04/2018 14:19

I don't wash fruit. My poor old granny was horrified! "You must think all those chemicals are very good for you then dear", (she was the queen of passive aggression).

blackteasplease · 17/04/2018 14:20

No I don't. My Mum still.has a fit and makes a point of washing it for the kids!

Daisy2315 · 17/04/2018 14:20

I don’t wash my fruit. dm has told me before that I can get food poisoning from not washing it, so I asked her if she had ever met anyone this had happened to and she had to say no.

MollyDaydream · 17/04/2018 14:20

I always wash, too many dirty, sneezy people in supermarkets fingering everything Grin

Crispbutty · 17/04/2018 14:20

I don’t. Never have and don’t intend to start.

NoNoCharlieRascal · 17/04/2018 14:21

I do when giving it to ds but not for myself or dh. Hmm Don't know why.

Akire · 17/04/2018 14:22

I never do, what is a quick splash with Cold water going to do? Not going kill any germs or wash off any chemicals if they have been sprayed. Alive and well!

MirandaWest · 17/04/2018 14:22

I don’t wash fruit

FrozenMargarita17 · 17/04/2018 14:22

I never wash fruit!

OneStepSideways · 17/04/2018 14:23

Why wouldn't you wash them?

They've been handled by a lot of people between being picked and packaged. Those people could have had rotavirus, norovirus, dirty hands etc. Strawberries are usually grown on manure. All sorts of beetles, larvae, flies etc have landed on them. And then pesticides.

I think it's really naive not to wash fruit and veg.

BeyondThePage · 17/04/2018 14:24

I do - after watching a documentary on channel 4 where the workers on a Spanish tomato farm didn't get loo breaks (just pee wherever) and some were suffering things like TB (hacking phlegm everywhere!).

IreneWinters · 17/04/2018 14:26

I always wash fruit, even things like melons or apples when I'm going to take the skin off. But your colleague is rude, she should have just said "no thanks".

TheQueenOfWands · 17/04/2018 14:26

I don't wash anything.

I appear to be fine!

tortelliniforever · 17/04/2018 14:26

I do. It's been handled, sneezed on, dropped on the floor...of course I wash it.

PasDeDeux · 17/04/2018 14:28

I'm actually shocked that so many people don't give their fruit a quick rinse under the tap as I really thought that was the norm! I am going to go against the grain then and say that I do!

Slievenamon · 17/04/2018 14:29

I think it's really naive not to wash fruit and veg

Why? What evidence of harm do you have from not doing so? I rarely wash fruit and manage to still be alive after 40 odd years of eating it. My children ditto. My parents, their parents....all somehow hale and hearty despite this apparently incredible danger.

TartanDr3ams · 17/04/2018 14:29

Thanks for the replies. I see a majority agree with me. I can see why people DO wash fruit and veg, but i dont think its something i will start 😂.

Bluelady you had me in stitches.

knew i should have got the giant box of malteasers instead!

Never have, never will. Much to my dm's horror.
