To think Friends got stupid?

Ok I used to love the tv show years ago and started rewatching episodes on Netflix.

But what the hell is the one where Joey speaks French?! Are we really meant to believe he’s so stupid he can’t even repeat words and genuinely believes he’s speaking French? Hmm

"Oh Mon dieu!"

"Oh de foof!"

Re: Joey and Rachel. I have given this a LOT of thought because I hated that storyline SO MUCH.

I have come to this conclusion:

The audience know that Joey was in love with Rachel for ages.
The writers want us to be desperate for Ross and Rachel to get back together and 100% satisfied when they do.
The audience don't want Joey to be sad.
Therefore, Joey and Rachel had to realise that it wasn't going to work BEFORE Ross and Rachel got back together, otherwise we would have been like 'Oh but poor Joey's still in love with her.'

I think I'm right. But I still think that storyline SUCKS.

Joey and Rachel were way more suited than her and (emotionally abusive) Ross. I read on here somewhere that they had to wrap up the series quite quickly so didn't develop it further.

CadyHeron · 15/04/2018 19:14

The stupid part is paying 7.99 a month for a service that shows repeats of a 20 year old show that has been repeated ad nauseam on channel 4

Hasn't been on Channel 4 or any freeview channel at all for years now actually Sad
This is why I need to get netflix lol. LOVE Friends.
Seen every episode about a million times but never tire of them!

TSSDNCOP · 15/04/2018 19:15

Poo Sad

TenancyTroublesAgain · 15/04/2018 19:16

Well it's not meant to be believable.

CadyHeron · 15/04/2018 19:16

We have to get off MN, there's something wrong with the left phalange.

Grin

"Sit down,we don't have a phalange."

"OMG, Mumsnet doesnt even HAVE a phalange!"

Hate Friends, never understood the hype.

PivotPivotPIVOTTT · 15/04/2018 19:18

Friends is NOT stupidShockGrin

I watch a few episodes every night in bed its like my comfort blanket. Have seen every episode hundreds of times but I never get bored of it.

FellOutOfBed2wice · 15/04/2018 19:18

It’s shit but I’ve never seen an episode and not laughed. It made the six of them a million dollars an episode at the end for a reason.

MadMags · 15/04/2018 19:22

I think it’s one of the very, very few sitcoms to stand the test of time.

Okay, some of it hasn’t aged well but it’s old!

And really, it doesn’t require this much thought does it?

Pivot! And Phoebe singing along to Ross’s bagpipes are TV gold!

bobstersmum · 15/04/2018 19:35

Awww no that was a good episode, friends was just the best, it makes me feel happy and warm inside just watching it (but I am very sad)

puddleduckmummy · 15/04/2018 19:35

I just laughed out loud remember Phoebe singing to the bagpipes!!

I love the bit when Joey figures out what's going on between Monica and Chandler & then when he proclaims 'In London?!!!!' Grin

Cheeseislife · 15/04/2018 19:39

Ross's sandwich, and his spray tan, are my favourites... "I'm an EIGHT?!?"

AyeAyeFishyPie · 15/04/2018 19:39

'My home town... Estee Lauder'

Raffles1981 · 15/04/2018 19:41

I think it peaked (for me personally) in series 8 when Rachel was pregnant. I think they are some of the best episodes. After that, I do feel it dipped a little. The whole French episode was a bit stupid. But, when I'm tired and just need cheering up, it's the silliest episodes that make me laugh the most.

BettyBooJustDoinTheDoo · 15/04/2018 19:43

Just love Friends, never fails to make me laugh and is such a pick me up when feeling down, real comfort TV, love the episode with Ross and his leather pants with luminous teeth! And the one with the tan!! Comedy gold!

Mookie81 · 15/04/2018 19:43

'Shh I've just put her to sleep'Grin

Raffles1981 · 15/04/2018 19:46

"Ross, can we just forget about the condoms?"
"Well, I may as WELL have!!"
It's lines like that, that make the whole show a classic.

Travelharder · 15/04/2018 20:02

I love the bit when people don't know that it's Rachel that is pregnant at the wedding and she has to spit the champagne back in the glass, then Phoebe tells her that she isn't pregnant when she really is. When Chandler and Monica realise they are getting twins. They did comedy really well but it could also be quite sweet at times. Most people have seen the episodes so many times and still quite enjoy them, it's quite a feat.

HyenaHappy · 15/04/2018 20:09

Ah I like Friends.

The line in the early s again when ajiey and Chandler are trying to decide between ducks and clowns.

Joey: “heads is for ducks because ducks have heads.”

Chandler: “what kind of scary assed clowns came to your birthday parties?”

Still makes me laugh.

HyenaHappy · 15/04/2018 20:10

*s again? Seasons!

Aijey? Joey!

Bea · 15/04/2018 20:12

We've been rewatching too..teenagers think it's hilarious!! . It has aged a little but I still find it funny... Best ep?... The one where no one is ready!! I love it! Warm and cosy!

Justabadwife · 15/04/2018 20:12

I hate the last episode. Monica and Chandler have just brought home their brand new baby twins, and they fucking leave them in the apartment on there own.
Fucking look after your kids dickhead.

Apart from that I love Friends
I'll see myself out. 🤣🤣

Domino20 · 15/04/2018 20:13

Mobdro (free TV/movie app) streams friends continuously. Thanks for the reminder, I'm going to watch some light-hearted mindless tv right now!
