To not iron sheets for guests

Almondsupreme · 13/04/2018 12:51

My mum is coming to stay for a night or two. She has never stayed before as I've always lived close enough that an overnight visit wasn't necessary. Now I'm wondering should I iron the sheets for her.
On one hand I CBA ironing (don't iron ours) . On the other hand it's nice to sleep in ironed sheets and it'll add a nice touch to the new house experience.

What do others do for guests?

I don't iron anything
Life's too short

pannikin · 13/04/2018 12:54

I never iron anything. I have work clothes that are easy care, and I just hang them up as soon as they're out the tumble dryer. If DH needs work stuff ironing, he does it himself. Don't bother ironing bedsheets either - they're only going to be slept on!

ItsASairFecht · 13/04/2018 12:55

Duvet cover and pillowcases - yes. Sheets - not a hope in hell.

Idontdowindows · 13/04/2018 12:58

Life's too short to iron sheets.

RedHelenB · 13/04/2018 13:00

She's your mum and a guest . YABU and lazy.

Origamoo · 13/04/2018 13:00

I don’t think I’d notice if I was sleeping on an ironed sheet Confused does it make much difference?

Inertia · 13/04/2018 13:02

I iron bedding, otherwise it doesn’t fit in the drawers.

Almondsupreme · 13/04/2018 13:09

Red Helen you are 100% right, that's what I'm chastising myself with in my head!! I needed a stern talking to. Grin

I'm so tempted to listen to all the voices saying life's too short but I think I'll have to plug in the iron Envy (not envy, more like sigh )

LOL at anyone who irons sheets

StellaHeyStella · 13/04/2018 13:32

Can't believe why anyone would iron sheets - and that's from someone who irons tea towels and also pants 'because they go in the drawer better'.

Fitted sheets are the answer op, they will change your life.

ToesInWater · 13/04/2018 13:42

Life really is too short to iron bedding! I have never ironed a sheet or duvet cover or pillow cases in my life. I enjoy the hotel experience but I don't run a hotel.

YouCantGetHereFromThere · 13/04/2018 13:47

I'm getting my house ready for a family of 5 to stay here while I'm away.

I'm pretty impressed with myself at actually providing freshly washed sheets for everyone.

I'm supposed to iron them too? WTF?

Shinycantle · 13/04/2018 13:47

Depends if they are 100% cotton, or a blend of fibres and how they have been laundered ie have they emerged from washer or dryer crumpled or not? I've inherited some fantastic cotton sheets from late ils which are pure cotton with v high thread count - beautiful but a bugger to launder.

MereDintofPandiculation · 13/04/2018 13:50

Ironing sheets is a hangover from having to make sure they're absolutely dry in a time before tumble driers and central heating

PinkCalluna · 13/04/2018 13:50

I always iron bedding, it feels nicer to sleep on.

It’s entirely up to you of course but to be honest you could have done it in the time you’ve taken to read the thread... Smile

Katyb1310 · 13/04/2018 13:50

I never iron sheets but I do iron duvet covers and pillowcases. We have fitted sheets so by the time they're stretched onto the mattress they're not really creased anyway.

LambMadras · 13/04/2018 13:51

Eh? People iron their bedding then lie in it? What an epic waste of time!

moreDetails · 13/04/2018 13:53

ironed bedding is far nicer to sleep on.

She's your Mum and a guest.

I would.

-I also have my pants ironed--

LambMadras · 13/04/2018 13:53

'I always iron bedding, it feels nicer to sleep on'

As opposed to sleeping on those pesky hard creases? Confused

Lazypuppy · 13/04/2018 13:55

I iron pretty much everything, feels so much nicer

Topseyt · 13/04/2018 13:55

I never iron anything, and would certainly not even consider ironing bedding. Not even for guests.

Happy to be called unreasonable and lazy there. It won't change anything.

SweetMoon · 13/04/2018 13:57

I don't iron either. I simply do not have the time to do lots of ironing and if I did, it wouldn't be bedsheets.

Having said that, if you have the time and think your mum will appreciate it then I think you should iron them. If you don't have time and it will be a big stress though, don't.

PinkCalluna · 13/04/2018 14:00

What an epic waste of time!

Well Lamb you might feel that it was a waste of your time but I’m quite happy that it’s a good use of my time.

There’s lots of things that I think are a waste of time that are a perfectly normal part of other people’s lives.

Isn’t it nice that we are all different?

DanceDisaster · 13/04/2018 14:02

Ah I remember the days when I could be arsed to iron sheets. Good times. Yanbu.

PuppyMonkey · 13/04/2018 14:05

Inertia, you need bigger drawers. Grin
