To not iron sheets for guests

Almondsupreme · 13/04/2018 12:51

My mum is coming to stay for a night or two. She has never stayed before as I've always lived close enough that an overnight visit wasn't necessary. Now I'm wondering should I iron the sheets for her.
On one hand I CBA ironing (don't iron ours) . On the other hand it's nice to sleep in ironed sheets and it'll add a nice touch to the new house experience.

What do others do for guests?

I iron most clothes and pillowcases but do not iron sheets or duvet covers. I'm not even sure how you go about it - they're far too big!

If I dry them on the line they don't end up creased anyway.

Youcanttasteracism · 13/04/2018 14:32

If you iron sheets please lend me some of the time you must have on your hands.

What a waste of time!

I used the passive voice.

TheSpottedZebra · 13/04/2018 14:43

If I were feeling conflicted, I'd compromise by ironing pillowcases only.

newmumwithquestions · 13/04/2018 14:47

I didn’t even realise people iron sheets! Seriously?

peacheachpearplum · 13/04/2018 14:48

I find fitted sheets are OK without ironing. I always iron the duvet and pillow slips for visitors, don't always bother for myself.

Mickyj · 13/04/2018 14:49

Wow. I didn’t even know people ironed sheets!

Mrstumbletap · 13/04/2018 14:50

I hate doing it, but I do it and I found an easy way too. Put the clean sheet on the bed and use a hot but unplugged iron over it. The sheet is ironed flat in about 30 seconds and looks great.

ScouseAT · 13/04/2018 14:51

I do not iron. My husband and my mum iron for our family. Mum now lives 5 mins away, but when we lived further away and she would come to stay I would always iron her bedding. She is like the Princess and the Pea. The slightest crease and she’d not sleep a wink and wake up all bruised!Wink

ButternutCrinkleFries · 13/04/2018 14:53

I like to do hot cross pillows, as my mum calls them, for guests. A nice cross iron in to the pillow as proof of ironing. Nothing on this earth would tempt me to iron a fitted sheet or a duvet cover though.

fussychica · 13/04/2018 14:55

Depends on the bedding. The guest bed has a lovely set on that doesn't require ironing whereas most of my white sets for our bed do look better after a quick run over with the iron. I too find ironed sets far easier to store.

Snoringhouselion · 13/04/2018 14:55

Would never cross my mind to iron sheets. Or anything else for that matter. I believe we do have an iron, but couldn't tell you where it is.

TheHobbyKing · 13/04/2018 14:58

I rarely iron anything and would never iron sheets. I can think of everything better to do.

Trinity66 · 13/04/2018 14:59

Ironing sheets? What is this madness?

WildCherryBlossom · 13/04/2018 16:06

Ironed sheets are bliss. But something I seldom have time to do these days. I would appreciate the effort if I were your mother.

HappyEverIftar · 13/04/2018 16:10

Get them sent out, that's what I do.

Willow2017 · 13/04/2018 16:23

I have managed to sleep on non ironed sheets for 35years (when i stopped ironing them and persuaded my mum to stop too😁)i am sure any guests will be able to as well.

They make no difference at all yanbu.

PuppyMonkey · 13/04/2018 16:28

Don’t know what’s sillier, the people who bother to iron sheets or the people who fork out good money to get someone else to iron them. Confused

flowerslemonade · 13/04/2018 16:36

I can't imagine ironing pants. They look perfect when they come out of the washing machine, not sure how different they'd look if they were ironed!

Time40 · 13/04/2018 16:38

My god, that's genius. I can see a whole new blissful life of unwrinkled, nice-looking sheets opening up before me. Does it work with cotton? Please say it works.

toomuchtooold · 13/04/2018 16:49

The only sheets I've ever ironed were when I was 17 and my mother broke her wrist and I did all the ironing. I tried to get away with just folding them but she was like "fine, if you won't iron them I will" and I felt I had no option but to do it or watch her iron sheets till her hand fell off.

As an adult, I never did iron the sheets when she visited Grin

tothesea · 13/04/2018 16:51

I do not iron any bedding. Even if it was slightly creased when it goes on it doesn’t stay creased. I certainly don’t iron pants or tea towels.

I can remember washing a load of DS1’s babygro’s and my friend saying ‘ooh yeh they’re a bugger to iron aren’t they’. WHAAT!

Iron. Babygro’s.

You’re bonkers mate.

Againfaster · 13/04/2018 16:54

I wouldn't do it for anyone else, or myself BUT I would for my mum as a "treat" if i knew thats what she liked and if she did it in her own house (mine does).

LambMadras · 13/04/2018 17:10

PinkCalluna

Absolutely it's great that we are all different. Can I come stay at your house and see if I sleep better?

Origamoo · 13/04/2018 17:12

I think it depends on your mum too doesn’t it. My mum barely even washes the bedding for us when we stay (therefore dusty) so I definitely don’t feel obliged to iron sheets for her!
