To not iron sheets for guests

Almondsupreme · 13/04/2018 12:51

My mum is coming to stay for a night or two. She has never stayed before as I've always lived close enough that an overnight visit wasn't necessary. Now I'm wondering should I iron the sheets for her.
On one hand I CBA ironing (don't iron ours) . On the other hand it's nice to sleep in ironed sheets and it'll add a nice touch to the new house experience.

What do others do for guests?

@Almondsupreme if you iron sheets, I want to come and stay at your house.

If my DP came home to ironed sheets, he'd probably think it was his birthday. Although, as I don't iron the sheets even for his birthday... he'd probably think he'd wandered into the wrong house.

AfterSchoolWorry · 13/04/2018 17:18

I'm boggling at the idea of ironing sheets!

Grainfail · 13/04/2018 17:20

The first time my parents stayed with me after I moved to the UK I ironed the sheets. Mam thought I ironed them on the bed they were so smooth (I didn't, so apparently I've got epic board skillz) and was really pleased.

I don't iron them now ever, and it was only ever a very rare occurrence back then anyway. Mam irons hers so knew she'd appreciate it. I'm back to bog standard guest treatment now (unironed sheets, no breakfast in bed or papers bought; good job we've the grandkids or they'd never come back GrinWink)

Grainfail · 13/04/2018 17:21

Oh and Mam irons pants, tea towels etc.which I didn't realise at the time was quite so cracked as it is!

Inertia · 13/04/2018 17:26

@puppymonkey if I had bigger drawers they wouldn’t fit in the room Smile

user1474652148 · 13/04/2018 17:31

I iron and STARCH my sheets and use lavender water whilst ironing.
It is quite possibly close to heaven on earth going to bed on our bed change evening. Together with a freshly pressed nightdress after a bath.
You don’t know what you are missing!!!!! 😂

user1474652148 · 13/04/2018 17:33

And yes I would iron your mothers sheets, she will enjoy her lovely bed much more. Such a small effort but looks so welcoming, a freshly made and pressed bed linen. Flowers or some daffodils from the garden job done

Passthecake30 · 13/04/2018 17:34

My mum thinks I'm a disgrace for not ironing sheets or pjs, so for her I would.

Would it work if you made the bed up and ran the iron over it?

halfwitpicker · 13/04/2018 17:34

Lord above.

extinctspecies · 13/04/2018 17:36

I never iron sheets.

Because I have a life.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 13/04/2018 17:36

I would rather buy a new set of sheets than iron the buggers!

ajandjjmum · 13/04/2018 17:36

Best way is to iron the bottom sheet and duvet when they're on the bed. Pillow covers have to be ironed on an ironing board.

And yes you should! Grin

angryburd · 13/04/2018 17:36

...people do this?

user1474652148 · 13/04/2018 17:38

Really genuinely surprised so many people don’t iron bed linen.

I thought everyone did....along with clothes.... so am I the only lonely soul ironing clothes as well?!! I couldn’t actually wear something creased, I would feel crumpled and dishevelled all day.

RoadToRivendell · 13/04/2018 17:38

I arrange for the master and guest room bedding to be ironed.

I don't bother with the kids'; surprisingly, they don't care. Wink

I think most civilised adults can appreciate ironed sheets.

LizzieDarcy1907 · 13/04/2018 17:40

I iron everything. Even flannels! I would never not iron bed sheets and I'd probably starch them too if they are for visitors Grin.

user1474652148 · 13/04/2018 17:42

So if you don’t iron bedding, once washed you are just lying on crumpled creased sheets again. Where is the pleasure and joy of going to bed in a bed that looks just how it did before?

user1474652148 · 13/04/2018 17:43

I think you should all try ironing and see the difference, seriously. Wink

user1474652148 · 13/04/2018 17:45

Waiting to be annihilated.. 3..2...1

RingtheBells · 13/04/2018 17:45

I don’t iron anything, if something washes so badly is all creased, it goes in the charity bag

As someone said upthread ironing sheets is something that was done in the past to make sure they were dry, before central heating and tumble driers.

user1474652148 · 13/04/2018 17:46

So you would put Egyptian cotton bed linen in the charity bag?

FourFriedChickensDryWhiteToast · 13/04/2018 17:47

i can honestly say that i have never ironed a sheet in my life....

user1474652148 · 13/04/2018 17:48

My gm bedding was bone dry after being outside all day. Nothing to do with central heating or otherwise. We have had central heating for fifty years and people still ironed

user1474652148 · 13/04/2018 17:50

four fried

Give it a try then, perhaps you wouldn’t notice the difference if you have never ironed.
Can’t quite believe I am having this conversation full stop

FourFriedChickensDryWhiteToast · 13/04/2018 17:52

nahh cba, life is too short, anyway i have those mixed fabric sheets that don't crease...:)
