To say Dh’s farts spoiled our day out?

He obviously thinks IABU.

Yesterday we went on a family day out to a historical building. The children are at an age where they really enjoy this sort of place and particularly love history.

We spent the day looking around the buildings and listening to speakers, enjoying artwork, reading plaques and taking photographs etc.

However I feel the day was interrupted by Dh’s noxious gas. God knows what he’d eaten but my goodness it was so embarrassing. We kept having to move on quickly due to the smell. He doesn’t usually emit quite such a foul stench and I appreciate he did need the loo and couldn’t help it.

Aibu to say his farts really did spoil the ambiance and concentration required of the venue? He says he couldn’t help it and so IABU.

I don’t understand why everyone is so pearl clutchy about bodily functions.

Nor me - it's beyond ridiculous.

LittleCandle · 12/04/2018 16:56

We were in the undercroft of York Minster one time, and were looking at a model in a small space when the chap who had been following us round dropped a silent but extremely deadly one! It was stomach churning and he was clearly well aware of what he had done, as he scuttled off before the smell hit us. I still want to boak thinking about it now.

corcaithecat · 12/04/2018 16:57

My dad was a serial offender. He'd walk the length of M&S farting loudly and be totally oblivious and my poor mum would be mortified and want to hide.
I think it was mostly down to his being an alcoholic and drinking too much beer every night. HmmAngry

Spring I am still picking myself up off the floor at your "Sneaky fuckers that just descend."

Priceless sorry, misses point of thread 😂😂😂

Chrys2017 · 12/04/2018 17:01

Put him on the Hay Diet! "Don't eat foods that fight."

Chrys2017 · 12/04/2018 17:01

Or get him some Beano.

I think if he could have gone and, ahem, off-loaded - yet chose not to - he IBVU. Why would you not?

If he couldn't, YAB a bit U.

He won’t go for a poo out of the house. He’d rather fart all day.

I don't know why I find this so funny, but I do.

He'd find good company on MN. Just the other week I was in conversation with a fruitloop who believed it was morally objectionable for people to shit in public toilets.

64BooLane · 12/04/2018 17:22

Confused as to how this is a namechange fail?

I don't understand these comments saying he should have just gone to the toilet. Unless I stayed in there all day, going to the toilet wouldn't help me on a windy day. I wish to God there was a way of releasing all the gas at once in a time and place of my choosing, but farting is more of an ongoing process in my life.

Spangles1963 · 12/04/2018 17:29

Farting doesn't always equate with needing the toilet! I have had days when I just can't stop parping (I've realised that baked beans do not agree with me) but I don't need the toilet as such.
Also, regarding the PPs comment about 'feeding him crap'. No one forced it down his throat, did they? I do get a bit fed up with the wife/partner of a man being held solely responsible for what he eats.

Plantlover · 12/04/2018 17:34

I'm not precious about farting but the op said he stank.

I don't want to breathe in other people's noxious shit particles because they choose not to use a toilet or step outside.

PoorYorick · 12/04/2018 17:35

This is the argument I got from last week's fruitloop about why it is selfish and inconsiderate of people to shit in public toilets. I don't know how some people navigate modern life, honestly.

(I agree with you, obviously.)

“I don’t understand why everyone is so pearl clutchy about bodily functions.

I’m not remotely “pearl clutchy”. I just think making life unpleasant for other people is something you don’t do if you can avoid it. And if you don’t fart in front of your boss, you don’t fart in front of the people you love.

Confusedbeetle · 12/04/2018 17:39

Overreaction, farting does not need you need the loo. many farts cannot be stopped. He didn't get drunk and puke all over you. Who thinks middle-class people fart more? Really?

BertrandRussell · 12/04/2018 17:41

I have never met anyone in good health who was unable to hold on to most farts til they were in the loo or out of range of other people.

Firstworlddramas · 12/04/2018 17:43

Sounds like a crap day

Elementtree · 12/04/2018 17:47

I would call all those people offended by farting a little anal retentive which they, no doubt, consider a talent.

Chewandswallow · 12/04/2018 17:49

I love that phrase "pearl clutchy" I must remember to use that the next time my SIL farts and blames it on the dog.

Springtrolls · 12/04/2018 17:51

I've had an ex boss fart in front of me.
Meeting round a table, and we were all standing up at the end, and as she did she let one go. She's obviously mortified. The others were either shocked or equally mortified. After a few moments, she laughed awkwardly and erm more came.

Had an Ofsted inspector reach for something and farted.

Yoga/Pilates a number of people fart during some of the stretches.

A lot of people also pass very discrete ones. That is none smelly or noisy. You could be stood next to anyone and they are silently farting. One of the reasons why I won't sit down on public transport when it's busy.
