If the council in Windsor wanting to clear homeless out ?

I mean why don't the royal couple open a shelter instead given they are 'humanitarian' ?

OP posts:
Alpacinoshoohaa · 12/04/2018 10:16

I thought they asked for donations to the homeless shelters in lieu of wedding presents?

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 12/04/2018 10:21

A bunch of people are going to attempt to sleep rough for the night in protest at the removal of homeless people
How will they and the genuine homeless be distinguished from the weirdos who so want to be at the front they’re bringing their sleeping bags to kip on the streets of Windsor? Grin
Anyway, can’t say I’ve give a rats about Royal anything unless, of course, we get another series of ‘The Windsors’ out of it then it’ll all be worth it.Grin

Mumto2two · 12/04/2018 10:25

Yes far too rushed. And the fact she is an actress, perhaps that's why something just doesn't seem 'real'.
It's interesting to see Meghan & Kate together. For all her acting skills, she seems far more ill at ease than Kate. Kate seems poised and genuinie, and seems to radiate a confidence that doesn't try to belie any hidden agenda. I just don't get that with Meghan. All I sense is somebody who is hell bent on portraying herself as Miss Perfect. Time will only tell I suppose!

abilockhart · 12/04/2018 10:29

I lost any 'interest' the day it was announced he was marrying a foreign actress.

Good to hear you might finally get a life, Joanna57!!

ScienceIsTruth · 12/04/2018 10:32

YADNBU.

I never had any interest in the first place though. I actually think the monarchy is archaic and should be abolished.

It's ridiculous that they're seen as special just because they're born into this family; when in reality they're no different to anyone else. It's elitist nonsense. No one can help the family they're born into, but to put some on a pedestal above everyone else because of it, is wrong.

At the very least, I think the royals should be paying their own way for everything in this day and age; and not a single penny should come from the public coffers. They're wealthy enough already, so why should they get a free ride, especially when their wealth came from the state in the first place?
I actually think that all their properties; etc, should belong to the state and that they should have to pay rent on them.

Harry comes across as fairly down to earth (from the times I've seen him on tv, which admittedly isn't much), and I don't actually have any idea who she is (and I have no interest in trying to find out), but I caught an interview with her recently (couldn't find the controls to turn over!), and there's just something about her I don't like. I can't put my finger on it, but she seemed a bit (?)... false.

DannyLaRuesBestFrock · 12/04/2018 10:38

Quotes regarding security are anywhere from £24 to £30 million

So good of them to pay for their own wedding and allowing us plebs to pay for their security.

Absolutely sickening. So very, very wrong.

DannyLaRuesBestFrock · 12/04/2018 10:39

Oh and 'lol' at whoever said 'down to earth royal'

An oxymoron if ever I heard one!!!!

SquirmOfEels · 12/04/2018 10:40

Are you sure about those quotes?

Because that's over double the policing bill for every single premier league football match in London for the whole season.

The80sweregreat · 12/04/2018 10:42

Danny- totally agree. 24 - 30 mill is beyond belief. So wrong.

TheMythicalChicken · 12/04/2018 10:43

We’re not paying for the wedding, FFS! Charles is paying for it from his private income.

I’m not a royalist BTW, I just take exception to the hatred and resentment directed towards two perfectly nice people.

ParisUSM · 12/04/2018 10:46

@SquirmofEels there's going to be much tougher security than anything seen at a football match though - airport type screening. No idea of figures though,.

Sunafterstorm · 12/04/2018 10:48

Having seen on television some of the kind gifts donated by the public for previous Royal weddings, I think that far from 'virtue signalling' their wish for charity donation is purely pragmatic.

BertrandRussell · 12/04/2018 10:50

Looking forward to seeing the dress, though. And the guest list.

TabbyMack · 12/04/2018 10:51

I just take exception to the hatred and resentment directed towards two perfectly nice people

Why is it your place to “take exception” to other people’s opinions? They are not a private couple, this is not a private wedding and Prince Charles may be paying for the cake and the clothes but WE are picking up the enormous security bill. That gives people the right to an opinion. The days of enforced forelock-tugging are over, thanks very much.

“I take exception”. Jeez.

BertrandRussell · 12/04/2018 10:53

I don’t “hate or resent” the individuals concerned. I’m just a Republican. Albeit a Republican who likes a nice frock.Grin

Teddy1970 · 12/04/2018 10:54

Well said TabbyMack

findingmyfeet12 · 12/04/2018 10:56

I've heard people talking about the royals bringing in tourism etc but at a time when there's so much poverty in the UK they have a duty to be a lot more low key imo.

Meghan has been wearing some outrageously expensive outfits and the fact that she may have paid for them herself is irrelevant. The royals can't expect to enjoy the privileges of being figureheads only when it suits them. They should live according to the mood and economic reality of their "subjects".

Harry, William, the York girls, or any of the queens children wouldn't last 5 minutes in the kind of jobs that pay salaries to enable the lifestyles they lead thanks to their Royal status. I think it's embarrassing to see hard working people queuing up to catch glimpses of them in the street.

ParisUSM · 12/04/2018 10:57

Saying that they are 'two perfectly nice people' is just as bad as saying something negative about their personalities. Unless you are acquainted with them, you don't know them or know anything about them.

I'm against the monarchy, and what makes me mad is that the 1% are becoming ever more wealthy while the rest of the country have to take the hit.

YoThePussy · 12/04/2018 10:58

My sole interest in the event is the excuse to close our road and have a street party/booze up. Break out the fire pits and beer.

ParisUSM · 12/04/2018 11:00

@YoThePussy are you really having a street party? Are there many going ahead? There were 13 in the whole of Scotland for Prince William's, can't imagine there will be any this time round.

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 12/04/2018 11:00

I lost any 'interest' the day it was announced he was marrying a foreign actress.

Foreign?

YoThePussy · 12/04/2018 11:03

ParisUSM last I heard the application to close the road had gone in. Any excuse for a knees up in the road.

findingmyfeet12 · 12/04/2018 11:04

I'll be flamed but I can't think of anything more embarrassing than attending a street party for the wedding.

I can imagine Fearne Cotton turning up to interview people in Union Jack outfits. People who the royals have never met and more significantly couldn't give a sh*t about.

CaptainCardamom · 12/04/2018 11:05

I'm not a Royalist but ... :o

Given they are there and loads of people do like them and are interested in their wedding, I think these two are trying at least.

I'm sure the charities are happy to get the money. You can call it "virtue signalling" but you'd probably call it something even worse if they did have loads of expensive wedding presents they don't need.

And what's wrong with people spending their money? If someone has pots of cash it's better to spend it and keep people in business making and selling quality stuff, than shove it in an offshore account.

I never understand this "oh no she has spent £1000 on a dress!" That money doesn't get burned you know - it goes into the economy and pays people's wages. Yes I think the rich should be taxed more, and yes I think they should be charitable too - but spending their money is not a crime, it's one of the best things they can do with it.

What if she dressed entirely in Primark, she'd be in the shit for that as well for wearing cheap clothes made in China for peanuts etc.

And funny how it tends to be women who get all the grief over this.

ParisUSM · 12/04/2018 11:07

I just can't imagine a street party at all, can't think of any event that anyone in Scotland would be that enthralled by. Anything with a Union Jack is usually do with Rangers which puts a whole different slant on things.
