Ah, so you DO think it's ok to investigate/criticise travelling communities for their behaviour?

Because it just doesn't come across in your posts at all!

Alpineflowers · 13/04/2018 15:43

Slievenamon Maybe you should do some research then, and you might find out?

Irish Travellers are Irish, they are not related to ethnic Gypsies

GnotherGnu · 13/04/2018 15:47

By the way, Mydog, since you think those scenarios are so incredible:-

www.foxnews.com/us/2017/07/03/colorado-man-mistakes-son-for-intruder-shoots-and-kills-him.html
www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2925997/Father-mistakes-son-burglar-accidentally-shoots-early-morning-break-in.html

As for the "I thought it was an intruder defence", we have to look no further than Pistorius.

Slievenamon · 13/04/2018 15:47

Because I just doesn't come across in your posts at all!

It does if you read them properly.

Irish Travellers are Irish, they are not related to ethnic Gypsies

I meant a little more research than that Hmm

Alpineflowers · 13/04/2018 15:57

I meant a little more research than that

Like what?
I think its you who needs to do some research

Slievenamon · 13/04/2018 15:59

I think its you who needs to do some research

Can you not follow? You said you can't understand why Travellers are an ethnic group under the Equality Act. I suggested you find out why, and you came back with one single obvious fact that "Irish travellers are Irish" Hmm

If you don't understand why they are an ethnic minority: go find out. How are you so confused by that suggestion? Confused

GnotherGnu · 13/04/2018 15:59

What is wrong with disproportionate force? That is what the law allows.

No it doesn't - or at least it doesn't give a blanket exemption for disproportionality. It says that, in cases involving householders, the degree of force used by the householder is not to be regarded as being reasonable in the circumstances as the householder believed them to be if it was grossly disproportionate. The level of force used must still be reasonable in the circumstances as the householder believed them to be.

Alpineflowers · 13/04/2018 16:03

SlievenamonCan you not follow? You said you can't understand why Travellers are an ethnic group under the Equality Act.

You are misquoting me now. I didn't say that at all

Slievenamon · 13/04/2018 16:04

Direct quote from you

What I don't understand is why Irish Travellers are also classed as an 'ethnic group'

How am i misquoting you exactly?

Alpineflowers · 13/04/2018 16:06

How am i misquoting you exactly?

By leaving out the word 'Irish'.

I asked why Irish Travellers are classed an ethnic group

Mydoghatesthebath · 13/04/2018 16:08

Oh dear liberals don’t like it up um!

can you not follow and i will make it easy for you. It will be a daily mail Sad face next.

G pistorias was tried and convicted. So that’s the law acting sensibly and proportionately in my view.

Bertrand mentioned the tele before she was exhibiting

I said it before but will repeat as you clearly been off googling again and not reading the posts.

Actually I can’t be arsed read my posts and see I never ever advocated disproportionate force.

Hillingdon · 13/04/2018 16:09

For all of those who try and argue whether reasonable force was used and people claiming they would hide under the bed etc. Just imagine for a moment this is you. You are in bed, maybe co-sleeping with your child and some scum shines a torch in your face in the middle of the night and threatens you with a screwdriver.

They then force you downstairs whilst the other man is left with your child. Are you honestly telling me you would start to work out what was reasonable force before you try and knock him out. Do remember there are 2 of them.

I just don't believe the bleeding heart liberals who state that you have to think things through carefully. I was car jacked years ago and honestly - you have so little time to think. You are driving along and suddenly scum are surrounding your car and kicking the hell out of one of your passengers.

This family are the dregs of the earth. They proudly advertise what they do. They taunt us. I am glad one of them has died. It means he cannot then carry out his heinous crimes on anyone else. With regard to this kids. Sadly I suspect we all know how they will turn out. For that this family need to hang their heads in shame

Mydoghatesthebath · 13/04/2018 16:10

Indeed Hillingdon me most mumsnetters snd 99.9% of the population agree with you.

Aeroflotgirl · 13/04/2018 16:13

I agree Hillingdon, you don't have time weighing up the pros and cons of reasonable force when faced with an intruder, you have very little time, all your hell bent on is protecting your kids, family or yourself.

Aeroflotgirl · 13/04/2018 16:15

hillingdon I agree with everything you have said. You have actually been through it yourself.

HelenaDove · 13/04/2018 16:17

" Entire threads ranting about how awful all travellers are, such scumbags"

Slie i havent seen any of threads like this.

I tell you what though there are reams of threads on this site slagging off baby boomers and pensioners. i bet i could link more threads to prove it than you could.

I suspect thats whats behind some of the comments by posters like Elendon who would have been humming a different tune had it been a young family who had been aggrravatingly burgled.

Mydoghatesthebath · 13/04/2018 16:20

I once punched a maie jogger who was running very close to me. He was behind me as I was walking and all I heard were running feet and then smelt sweat. I was totally fight/flight mode and punched him. I am not s big girl and it didn’t phase him. He apologised for scaring me and jogged on.

Case closed.

BertrandRussell · 13/04/2018 16:21

“You are in bed, maybe co-sleeping with your child and some scum shines a torch in your face in the middle of the night and threatens you with a screwdriver.“

I don’t think anyone would say for a second that you shouldn’t do anything you could to defend yourself and your child in these circumstances.

Mydoghatesthebath · 13/04/2018 16:23

I think she was drunk really. Her Posts were too bizarre

I suspected Vincent would have some kids that were near enough grown ups as travellers tend to marry when young.

HelenaDove · 13/04/2018 16:40

Hillingdon..............sorry to hear about your car jacking.................bloody petrifying.

Hillingdon · 13/04/2018 16:44

Yes Helena, I agree too. I hope the police are monitoring them carefully. I suspect they are beyond help now. They will have learnt an awful lot from this despicable family.

I am a zero tolerance sort of person when we get to a stage where we are hand ringing for solutions or when some are trying to be too PC. A senior police office has come out saying we should respect this family's right to put flowers where they like and it was a tragedy for their burglar. Wrong words in my humble opinion.

It wasn't. It was a carefully planned attack on two elderly people which went very wrong.

Mydoghatesthebath · 13/04/2018 16:47

Hillingdon

Again you make perfect sense to me and the vast majority in this country thank God.

The police had to investigate and found no charges needed. Quite right too.

I assume they hope flower gate will literally die down as these scum move on. After all local
Old folk will be not such good pickings with all this publicity. I hope the police watch them very carefully from now on.. you can always hope.

Hopefully the elderly couple can return home and feel the support snd love of their local community.

Hillingdon · 13/04/2018 16:47

It was years and years ago. Honestly everyone, it happens so quickly. You don't have time to think things through. I drove off leaving my passenger but stopped down the street. They never caught them.

I cannot compare my situation to this. That poor couple.
