Because I would rather be overdressed?

We are having our families photos done professionally this weekend. I have already picked out a dress to wear. But straight after the photos finish we are going to a friend's get together about 5 minutes away. According to dh I am going to look ridiculous because I will be dressed up and nobody else will be. AIBU to not give a shit? I was once massively underdressed for something and spent the entire night hiding in shame

It all depends on whether you like the dress OP and since you clearly do, wear it! I personally think its very pretty and I would totally wear something like that for a photoshoot. I've done similar family shoots and I've worn nice floral dresses/skirts and my DH/DS in casual jeans and tops. They were outdoors though but always come out really nice and get lots of compliments from family and friends.

I'm sure it will be just fine, the only thing I would take is a change of shoes because heels can be uncomfortable after a while. Enjoy!

You could just say "we've just had a family photo taken at so and so, down the road", problem solved.

I am often overdressed as I tend to wear dresses a lot and don’t really wear jeans/tshirts. If it is a family photo go in what makes you feel good as you want to remember that when you look at the photo.

Also who cares about the party. If you are worried then chuck a biker jacket or a cardigan over the top.

A friend invited me to a gathering at her house and when I arrived I found a note that everyone was down on the beach. Went down the stairs and waded in the surf till I got to where they were gathered.
My friend told me that she was so jealous watching that woman (me) wearing a long skirt wading in the surf that she wanted to go change her clothes.
