About the situation with Russia and the US. Putin said he'll shoot down any US missiles fired at Assad forces. Are we on the verge of all out war? Please calm me down.

I follow this on line and on tv occasionally. I just wonder if there’s underlying interests from the richer upper crust . I’m not worried, I think we all have our day to depart but I can’t see Russia being so silly as to launch towards the west . There are way too many nuclear deterrents aimed at him. I think (not knowing sod all ) that he knows it’ll finish him and his country. None of the western powers will strike him either for exactly the same reason . There’s obviously more to it than we will ever know and I doubt it will benefit average people from any country whatever IT is

Justanotherlurker · 12/04/2018 20:19

Well, that's why. Because if people saw pictures then realised we were enabling it, they'd be outraged (rightly)!

It depends how you encompass "we" to be honest, and then you start have to start questioning the difficult situation of why, its far more than than the Evil west/Israel being the bad guys.

Geopolitics is a very nuanced grey area, its not just a case of the "evil west" scenario, if it were then Sweden would stop supplying military equipment

Justanotherlurker · 12/04/2018 20:29

You seriously misrepresented what I said.

No, I didn't

Your solution was for more jaw jaw not war war and saying that Russia might not veto the EU asking Assad to step down.

You apparently have a nuanced understanding of the situation..

nursy1 · 12/04/2018 20:44

And you’re misrepresenting again.
I said, Russia may not veto a UN intervention ( you quoted me if you look back) and I gave reasons why.
You seen seriously fixated on the “EU having nothing to do with this”

Justanotherlurker · 12/04/2018 20:53

I didn't mention Israel Lurker ?

No you didn't, you mention Yemen, and so understand the proxy religious war that being played out in that region?

It hasn't been highlighted because its far more complicated and deep rooted that it cannot be easily partitioned as evil west v minority, if you want to look at funding it gets very, very murky with regards to public personas (cough cough, Sweden/Germany), the Uk are not even the tip of the iceberg in that situation

jasjas1973 · 12/04/2018 21:03

Uk sells many times more weapons to than Sweden to SA, in-fact sells far more than anyone else in Europe.
www.euronews.com/2017/11/30/which-eu-countries-sell-arms-to-saudi-arabia-

In terms of arming and interfering (in the ME) the West is head n shoulders above anything from Russia

Justanotherlurker · 12/04/2018 21:22

Uk sells many times more weapons to than Sweden to SA, in-fact sells far more than anyone else in Europe.

I'm not sure you have really disputed my point to be honest.

The fact that we are one of leading proponents in pushing technology to its limits in both civilian life and military that everyone wanting to buy from us, somehow eliminates that countries such as sweden etc are supplying military support and ignoring the geopolitical situation.

But please explain why you think bringing that up is relevant,.

cheval · 12/04/2018 21:23

I agree it’s scary. Powers that be are all posturing knobs, trying to get the upper hand. Vietnam wasn’t ended for about three years because those in charge didn’t want the humiliation of giving in. Children in playgrounds have more grace and common sense.

Tinkobell · 12/04/2018 21:29

Anyone else think BBC just LOVE to war monger....like a bunch of bystanding kids goading a fist fight?!

Justanotherlurker · 12/04/2018 21:37

Powers that be are all posturing knobs,

This is the type of situation we are in, ignorance and virtue signalling

Chemical weapons have been used, this should be the fucking outcry

nursy1 · 12/04/2018 22:35

Perhaps one of the ways to stop illegal chemical weapons being used is to stop selling em the stuff.

Devora13 · 12/04/2018 23:20

Dya know what pisses me off? Someone posts, wants a bit of reassurance or whatever. Then along come the Ego Bandits and decide to hijack the whole thread with their own petty posturing and squabbles. Get an emotional age assessment done before you comment in a grown up forum guys!

Justanotherlurker · 13/04/2018 06:56

Haha, @nursy

You do realise, Sodium Fluoride is a WHO essential medicine and you'll find it in your bloody toothpaste. Potassium fluoride has a boatload of uses and you can buy it online, its a massive stretch to say we was selling them chemical weapons.

But thanks for the mail hyperbole though.

frumpety · 13/04/2018 09:27

Get an emotional age assessment done before you comment in a grown up forum guys!

Can you get those on the NHS ? Grin

Leapfrog44 · 13/04/2018 10:10

meh, we're all fucked anyway. Most likely slow death by environmental destruction, but if it's not that then nuclear annihilation is very likely. Why worry, you can't do anything to change it.

PrtScn · 13/04/2018 10:43

I might build a bunker in my garden and start stock piling tinned food and gasoline.

biscuitraider · 13/04/2018 10:54

If it was to happen i'd rather be blown up straight away. A bunker might protect you from the blast but you wouldn't survive the nuclear winter. A slow painful death for sure. I hope maybe P and T think the same.

OP posts:
pollymere · 13/04/2018 11:03

At present, we need Russia for oil and gas. We're going to have to be nice to them sooner or later.

PancakeBum · 13/04/2018 14:35

nuclear annihilation is very likely

You mean just as likely as it was during the cold war and the cuban missile crisis, right?

DGRossetti · 13/04/2018 15:28
Hmm

MUST WATCH: Former head of British Armed Forces gets cut off by Sky when he goes off-script on Syria!

Teacher22 · 13/04/2018 16:59

You would be wise to be terrified of a mansion tax but not all out superpower confrontation.

Justanotherlurker · 13/04/2018 18:32

@DGRossetti

Of course all us sheeple should just wake up...

The rebels have access to not only chemical weapons but the sophisticated methods to deploy them and coordinate attacks on themselves dozens of times in the hope it will bring the US into the war to help them. They've shown a lot of restraint not using that sophistication against their enemies. It's some serious 4D chess to only use it on themselves, you've got to give them that!

AnitaLovesVictor · 13/04/2018 19:38

DGRossetti - I often think if that FGTH video when this sort of thing goes off in the news. Music videos in the 80s really were something - brings back memories.

nuclear annihilation is very likely

Steady on....

Justanotherlurker · 13/04/2018 20:35

Validation and humble bragging

Sometimes its a genuine question from a new mum who is worried, but 90% are just a humble brag or

Justanotherlurker · 13/04/2018 20:35
