Loads of shops, bars and restaurants are now allowing dogs in them.
I'm very allergic and one of my dc is too.
It's so widespread now. Such little thought for those with allergies.

Dogs in restaurants! Eww! YANBU!

I was sitting outside at a restaurant in Brighton alongside the prom. A dog came along and put his nose in my food. I was utterly disgusted. I’m sure dogs were meant to be on the lead there. Owner said ‘sorry’ but should have bought me a new lunch.

redpickle · 11/04/2018 08:53

And they smell horrible, lick their owns arseholes and shed hair - they don't belong in anywhere serving food.

Frillyhorseyknickers · 11/04/2018 08:54

At the very least it's a hygiene issue in places where food is served.

This has been trotted out a lot on here - please elaborate on how a dog on the floor of the dining area, is a hygiene issue where the food is prepared in the kitchen, and served to your table? Genuinely want to know how you arrive at this.

MrPan · 11/04/2018 08:56

Great - if you wish to question things, then read the words which I actually wrote.. I know it may be a bit complicated but give it a go eh?

I said we avoid dogs when we are on holiday. Not the same thing as your interpretation.

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 11/04/2018 08:56

The majority of the cafes near me allow dogs. If there was a hygiene risk to customers dogs wouldn't be allowed in. How is a dog sat under a table unhygienic?

MrPan · 11/04/2018 08:58

Because they shed hairs, bring other living creatures in their hair and bring dirt into what should be a clean environment.

Why do dog owners lose so many IQ points when talking about dogs?

seafoodeatit · 11/04/2018 08:59

YANBU. It must be annoying not having much choice, I actively avoid dog friendly places but live somewhere there is quite a bit of choice. It seems many dog owners think everyone should love their animals, and the comparison to children is just a bad joke.

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 11/04/2018 09:00

No way are you a dog lover Mr Pan. It's a small minority of dogs that jump up or bark or dribble near you. So why would you steer clear from every single dog?

Ickyockycocky · 11/04/2018 09:01

We’ve always had dogs and they have a basket in the kitchen, where we cook and eat. Hygiene is not an issue.

Figmentofmyimagination · 11/04/2018 09:03

Where are all these places? This is definitely not my experience as a dog owner. I'd love our dog to be allowed in more shops! The only place I know where this is common is betws y coed in north wales.

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 11/04/2018 09:03

Because they shed hairs, bring other living creatures in their hair and bring dirt into what should be a clean environment.

You're eating your food off a clean plate straight out of a clean kitchen. It is a clean environment.

MrPan · 11/04/2018 09:03

I didn't say I was a dog lover FFS. Read the words?

I used to own two beautifullly behaved border collies. Well brought up and trained. Those dogs like to know what's okay and what to do.

I don't trsut other dog owners to be as careful and particular.

PerfectlySymmetricalButtocks · 11/04/2018 09:05

MrPan poodles don't shed hair. That's why DF has a labradoodle, DSis is allergic.

MrPan · 11/04/2018 09:06

It IS a bit like children. Like farts and children, you can maybe only love your own.

NoSquirrels · 11/04/2018 09:07

I did read your link, monkeysox.

I like dogs. I just want to have a choice if I'm exposed to them as they make me ill in confined spaces

Happily, that article gives you a list of places to avoid! You have the choice.

In reality, I don’t suppose you’ll see many rigs in Moss Bros or Sofology.

I really do sympathise about allergies. But you can ask a restaurant or cafe if they allow dogs before you go in, and choose elsewhere if they do. Your choices are restricted by your allergies m, which sucks, but they’re not restricted by the cafe or shop - they’re as happy to welcome you as they are the dogs.

Look, I wouldn’t take my dog to a retail park to go shopping specifically, or if I was going clothes shopping in town I wouldn’t take my dog. But if I happened to be en route from a dog walk elsewhere and stopped at Pets At Home, it’s nice to know I could also grab a Costa coffee without worrying about the dog in the car.

Hygiene worries are just not founded.

LakieLady · 11/04/2018 09:08

Because they shed hairs, bring other living creatures in their hair and bring dirt into what should be a clean environment.

But so do humans! I've encountered people who smell far worse than any dog I've ever met.

I visit people at home as part of my job, and you wouldn't believe how filthy some people are.

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 11/04/2018 09:08

People that own dogs or used to own dogs are usually dog lovers.

I have never met anyone that claims to have owned dogs with such an attitude as yours.

It doesn't add up.

WhatToDoAboutWailmerGoneRogue · 11/04/2018 09:09

There's something about a person that " hates dogs " that makes me wary of them.

They're usually overly dramatic, self centred, unfeeling and in some cases unhinged.

GreatDuckCookery Wow. I think you’re the one being over dramatic and lacking empathy here. Everyone is allowed to love and hate animals as they please; I’m sure you don’t love every single animal. So are you unhinged because of the animals you hate?

Dogs are beautiful. Every single one of them.

No, they’re really not. Some dogs are cute, but the majority are really, really ugly; take chihuahuas, pugs, German shepherds, Rottweilers and so on for quick examples.

(And no, before you jump on me, I don’t hate dogs.)

RickOShay · 11/04/2018 09:12

what’s that quote? The more people I meet, the more I like my dog
Grin

Ickyockycocky · 11/04/2018 09:12

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and what the dog looks like is irrelevant anyway.

Coloursthatweremyjoy · 11/04/2018 09:13

Im not the type to take my dog everywhere I go but if we are on holiday we take him

Dogs in pubs has always been a thing I thought. I definitely remember my parents taking their dog to the pub and our local had a resident dog that wandered around the bar. Does anyone remember that video where three GSD's would jump up to the bar, the tender would fire a soda siphon at them and they would catch the stream? I don't think anyone watched that and thought "good grief! Dogs in a pub!!"

I did laugh at the poster who said that tiny dogs are fine because they can go on people's laps...so a dog at table level is okay but on the floor is a no no. Also if your child is inclined to wander about or throw things at sleeping animals...don't take them there.

SnookieSnooks · 11/04/2018 09:15

@Frillyhorseyknickers dogs are unhygienic in restaurants because they don’t always stay on the floor..... they jump up and lick things. They are also a trip hazard for people carrying trays of food.

formerbabe · 11/04/2018 09:15

I really dislike dogs. I find the owners hilarious. I tend to give dogs a wide berth, I'll move over on pavements step away from them, give owner a disapproving look if they approach me etc. Yet the owners look so personally insulted that someone doesn't find their dog cute and adorable.

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 11/04/2018 09:17

To actively hate an animal that has never done you any harm is unhinged.

I'm not referring to people that are scared of dogs for whatever reason, but those who are very vocal about then being disgusting and filthy. I've met a few people like that and it turned out they were really unpleasant people.

ReinettePompadour · 11/04/2018 09:19

It's asmallminority of dogs that jump up or bark ordribblenear you

No it really isn't, especially if you've been around dogs as it makes you smell more interesting so you seem to attract the attention. Theres a pub, several in fact but 1 in particular, I occassionally go to. Dogs are welcomed in the area closest to the door so you have to walk through several dogs to get into the place. Every time I've been I have had dogs jumping up me, sniffing me (I have dogs so I smell interesting) dogs barking and growling to each other and on several occasions the dogs are actually fighting with their useless owners standing back looking shocked instead of getting their dog out of the place.

Why do I still go? Its because they sell the best food in the area. I would go more often if it wasn't for the dogs and most people I know say the same.

I'm surprised more people's dogs aren't like mine. My dogs stink, they roll in poo, dead animals, anything smelly at all, and they do this every walk. They eat anything they find including a variety of poo from pretty much any species of animal. They dig up all sorts including corpses (animal I hope) and vile unidentifiable things. I would never think my dogs are hygienic enough to take into a shop. Why on earth would I want to buy clothes/products that had been slobbered on by a dog too?
