Dogs. Everywhere

Loads of shops, bars and restaurants are now allowing dogs in them.
I'm very allergic and one of my dc is too.
It's so widespread now. Such little thought for those with allergies.

Dogs are beautiful. Every single one of them.

They are all beautiful. Maybe not all aesthetically but they all have the potential to be beautiful on the inside. Which is the most important issue surely.

tortelliniforever · 11/04/2018 09:22

I'm fed up of them too especially in buses which are standing room only yet this morning an alsation (or whatever it is calked now) was taking up the space of three people. I twisted my ankle trying not to step on a dog sprawled out on the floor of a bus.

BellBookandCandle · 11/04/2018 09:25

@MrPan - I understand that some people don't like dogs and that's fine - dogs and humans can go about their daily lives ignoring each other. However, to suggest that you would react in a less than positive way if a dog jumped up at you is unpleasant. If you have an issue take it up with the owner, don't take your petty frustrations out on the dog- it's not its fault- it is the owner who is in the wrong. Thing is I doubt you have the courage of your convictions to follow up with the owner - much easier to be the "big I am" kicking/hitting an animal.

I note you go to Europe, you do realise your luggage has at some point been sniffed by one of those drooling filthy unhygienic monsters that inhabit your world. Dogs who have been trained to help keep us humans safer?

I hope you or a loved one never need an assistance dog or get lost whilst out walking and need a dog to help search for you. I sincerely hope no- one in your family ever needs the services of a police cadaver dog.

I presume you are ok with drugs being brought into the country - who'd want highly trained filthy unhygenic dogs sniffing out large shipments of drugs and reducing the amount of illegal drugs being sold?

Dogs provide solace and comfort to the lovely and are beneficial to those with mild mental health issues - helping them exercise, get out and about etc. Dogs are non judgemental, accepting of humans and incredibly forgiving- more than can be said for some.

I know some religions view dogs as unclean - but all the major religions agree on one thing - kindness to animals. Maybe we should all try to be kinder to each other and those animals around us to help enrich our lives.

Coloursthatweremyjoy · 11/04/2018 09:25

My mum takes her dog on the bus all the time. Vets appointments, visiting when she can't get back to let him out, pet supply shopping, getting to more interesting walks. Normally he lies at her feet and small children will exclaim "oh the was a dog There!" When she gets off.

He is permitted, she pays for his ticket...

MrPan · 11/04/2018 09:26

I have never met anyone that claims to have owned dogs with such an attitude as yours.

You should get out more instead of hanging around MN all day.

onefootinthegrave · 11/04/2018 09:28

RickOShay there should be another saying - the more dog owners I meet, the more I like my cat Grin

dangermouseisace · 11/04/2018 09:29

I can see your point OP. Those saying ‘take an antihistamine’ don’t get it. Some allergy symptoms do not respond to antihistamine, and the only way to avoid a reaction is avoid the source.

However, I live in a very dog friendly town...but the number of cafes/restaurants/shops that allow dogs is far fewer than the number that don’t allow them. It would still be easy to avoid them.

MrPan · 11/04/2018 09:30

Nicely eloquent post there Bell.

But of course there is a world of difference between use of controlled dogs in a particular environment, and dogs on buses, in cafes, shops and runnnig around out of control.

But you knew that already. Or...you're as bad as Great Grin

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 11/04/2018 09:31

Strange comeback there Mr Pan. Still doesn't change my opinion.

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 11/04/2018 09:33

You're just making things up now. And making yourself look silly in the process.

Coloursthatweremyjoy · 11/04/2018 09:38

I never recognise the dogs people describe on these posts. There are loads of dogs in my area, we are quite rural. Some places are dog friendly, the majority of pubs are. It's not unusual to see a dog on the bus. I have never seen a badly behaved dog in these places. I mean, one might stand up but the owner quickly makes them lie down again. No slobbering, stinking dogs panting over people's lunches just dogs under tables or curled into corners that you'd barely know were there. Mind you I never see any uncontrollable children in pubs and cafes either. In real life we all seem to coexist reasonably well.

The only bad behaviour I see is dogs running up to mine in the fields and being a pest but that's an entirely different circumstance.

BellBookandCandle · 11/04/2018 09:43

@MrPan not really a world of difference - those dogs in the cafe, on the bus and in shops could be assistance dogs or pets as therapy dogs - let's not judge.

Dogs running around out of control are a nuisance - but it is the owners who are at fault. And that is a where the difference lies.

@ReinettePompadour - you need to reinforce the leave command. Look into scentwork training - your dogs will learn to indicate a scent for the reward rather than digging it up, rolling in it or eating it. My pair don't even bother with Fox poo now as they know they get a much bigger and better reward by indicating the scent and editing for me to treat them.

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 11/04/2018 09:44

Rottweilers and German Shepherds are beautiful, how can you say they aren't?

formerbabe · 11/04/2018 09:46

I don't find them beautiful. They leave me cold. I wouldn't wish them harm but I certainly don't want to be around them. I don't understand people who find dogs beautiful.

MrPan · 11/04/2018 09:47

Great - you're beginning to obsess. You're following me round like a nuisance dog.

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 11/04/2018 09:47

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 11/04/2018 09:49

You mean like you are with me Mr P?

Ickyockycocky · 11/04/2018 10:24

Geez, what a load of hysterical nonsense there is on this thread! Only on Mumsnet 😂

Notso · 11/04/2018 10:31

I've had to stop going to one of my favourite places because it's become dog friendly which people seem to have translated as bring your dog to do whatever the fuck it pleases.
It's not the dogs as such it's their owners, who are so besotted they think their beloved cannot do wrong. They just sit there looking gormless and saying things like "he's so nosey" "she's trying to make a friend" etc as the dogs root in people's shopping bags, jump up at tables, bark their heads off at each other and generally make a nuisance of themselves.
If you dare to suggest it's irksome to have your drink knocked over or your new dress pulled out of your bag you are either treated as some hideous dog hating monster or the passive aggressive baby voices start "come my Archie Warchie, the mean lady doesn't want to play today come and sit with Mumsy wumsy"
As usual people being twats spoil things for everyone else.

TattyCat · 11/04/2018 10:31

For those dog haters: whatever you do, don't visit Ludlow, will you? You'd have a terrible, terrible time. It's cram jam full of dogs - everywhere.

And for those complaining about hygiene - my local pub has a resident cat. It also serves (very expensive) food. The last time we were in there (at a non-food time), the cat was walking across all the restaurant tables, finally settling on one. Now that is far, far, far, filthier than any dog under a table. We won't be eating there again...

TattyCat · 11/04/2018 10:32

Oh, and Ludlow is also very much a 'foodie' town.

Nikephorus · 11/04/2018 10:34

I'm autistic and struggle with people. They're everywhere! I'd rather have dogs.

Frillyhorseyknickers · 11/04/2018 10:50

Nikephorus

Agree. I actually only have dogs to ensure I create my own safe circle of terror and keep all the hysterical MN snowflake parents and their beats far far away from us.

Orangettes · 11/04/2018 11:25

We take our dog everywhere, we only go to dog friendly shops, pubs and restaurants - we can shop in clothes shops, outdoors shops, gift shops, it really is quite amazingly dog friendly...he's well behaved, mostly smells of my perfume - most of the time people will not have realised he's there as he lies under my chair. I do feel for allergy suffers - are you allergic to the human owners too? - I am allergic to horses, I my allergy is also triggered by people who has spent anytime with a horse and not showered and put on clean clothes, thankfully most people do with horses but not many shower after spending time with their dogs.
A young man I know has a peanut allergy - he thinks Five Guys should not be allowed to sell chips fried in groundnut oil - it should be banned from sale...does he have a point - should we just ban everything that causes an allergy?

AccidentallyRunToWindsor · 11/04/2018 11:36

The more dogs the better- I love seeing them in pubs etc. I want workplace dogs but keep getting told we can't 😢

I am also allergic, and my asthma is triggered by dogs. Better to have some exposure than none at all for me.
