DH cooked dinner tonight and had some sausages on his plate along with dinner. I commented on how strong they smelled and asked where he got them. He laughed and said “from the bin”.
Last night I was checking the fridge and at the back found a pack of leek sausages dated April 1st...the pack had swelled right up and bubbles were oozing out the side, so I threw them out. These are what he’s just eaten!
Now he burping away and I can’t believe he’s that thick!
AIBU to make him sleep with a bucket tonight Angry

Thanks, Weeds Smile Your posts are really informative.

SherryBaby11 · 07/04/2018 19:49

I am not sure whether this beats the fat ball.

outabout · 07/04/2018 20:05

Partly placemarking but I feel a 'wimp' as I decided not to have some ham that had been in a tupperware box in the warm for over 2 months.
I opened it outside in a fair breeze and the stink was still horrendous.
The ham was more sludge than the original slices.

GrouchyKiwi · 07/04/2018 20:05

OP Genuinely glad your silly DH hasn't suffered any ill effects (yet).

Weeds Also want to say how much I loved your sciencey explanations. You are indeed very good at explaining things in a way that non-sciencey-types can understand.

youarenotkiddingme · 07/04/2018 20:36

Weeds your explanations have been fantastic Grin

myrtleWilson · 07/04/2018 20:48

Weeds thank you for an excellent science lesson - that was really interesting! OP hope your husband is planning to curtail his non diving adventures from now!

snewsname · 07/04/2018 20:51

Weeds explanation explains why the co-op doesn't refrigerate their freshly cooked sausage rolls. I never did understand that one.

Weedsnseeds1 · 07/04/2018 20:59

snewsname that's a slightly different reason. Legally that type of product can be displayed unrefrigerated for a set period of time. They haven't been bin fermenting their sausage meat!

babyno5 · 07/04/2018 21:07

@weedsnseeds1 it certainly is an incestuous industry 😉

onalongsabbatical · 07/04/2018 21:10

Weedsnseeds1 you are treasuresome mine of information! Not placemarking me, no no... Grin

Weedsnseeds1 · 07/04/2018 21:18

babyno5 is your sausage specialist, I'm more of food manufacturing generalist.
I have to admit though, that most of us food scientists / food technologists / technical managers are probably more gung ho with food in our own homes than we'd ever encourage anyone else to be.

snewsname · 07/04/2018 21:20

But they seem to be out for a long time weeds. I would never leave a meat product unrefrigerated for so long. How long can we leave buffet stuff out safely for at a party?

Graphista · 07/04/2018 21:30

I'm going to risk being very cheeky and ask if I can eat last nights takeaway again tonight? Fried rice and veggie curry, I've no micro so either eat cold or reheat (oven or pan?) what we thinking (hoping weeds is about)

I served up half and resealed and refrigerated rest straight away.

Weedsnseeds1 · 07/04/2018 21:30

4 hours, legally, but you can only have one period out of temperature control. You can't then stick them in the fridge and do the same thing the next day.
You get a "sale or consumption" exemption as a one off only

Bettyartist · 07/04/2018 21:32

Before we lived together, I left a large container of goose fat in DH's fridge one Christmas and forgot about it. One night the following April I woke to a terrible smell. He was eating a late night snack of bread and dripping. I realised it was the long forgotten goose fat after questioning him. He insisted on eating it over my objections...... By heck, the sound effects were incredible later that night......

Ihatebuildabear · 07/04/2018 21:32

No expert here but I always worry about reheating rice. I know you have to be really careful with rice, cooling it quickly, etc.

Weedsnseeds1 · 07/04/2018 21:37

Was it good and hot when you ate it first time round graphista?
If yes and you know you have an efficient fridge, to chill it down quickly then should be OK.
Cooked rice can be dodgy if left at room temperature, due to an organism called bacillus cereus, it's one of the spore formers, so heat stable toxin produced and reheating won't destroy it.

Graphista · 07/04/2018 21:38

It was sealed and refrigerated soon as I finished serving

Graphista · 07/04/2018 21:39

Yea - too hot to even eat initially burnt my lip a little.

Do I re-heat or eat cold do you think? (I don't mind either way)

Graphista · 07/04/2018 21:40

Oops Blush

And thanks for answering much appreciated Flowers

Waspsarewankers · 07/04/2018 21:40

Hope you are well stocked with loo roll!

Weedsnseeds1 · 07/04/2018 21:42

Either is fine graphista

Ollivander84 · 07/04/2018 21:46

Despite being immunosuppressed I have a stomach of steel and even I wouldn't eat that!
By stomach of steel I mean I never throw up, even when we have all eaten the same thing and others have been really unwell. Had norovirus once, never had food poisoning

ferntwist · 07/04/2018 21:50

Weeds I was always told to let food cool down completely before putting it in the fridge. Is that okay or could I be risking problems, eg with rice? Loving your knowledge!

Graphista · 07/04/2018 21:53

Ok thank you - sorry for being a pest.

Op hope radio silence from you means dh and you both fine.
