Answer the door

Put the bins out.

Go down to breakfast in someone’s house.

Go down to breakfast in a hotel

Early morning dog walk

Go to the shops.

Do the school run.

??

I would (and do!) do all except the last three because I am terminally lazy and rarely dressed before noon if I don’t have to be. AIBU and a dreadful skank?

My trick is to wear PJs that look like loungewear

Why not just wear loungewear that are as comfy as pjs?

HidingFromTheWorld · 05/04/2018 09:52

Forgot to say that they all headed in and sat having breakfast as if it were their own home!

RidingWindhorses · 05/04/2018 09:55

I think part of the obsession with wearing PJs is that Western clothes tend to be uncomfortable.

People tend to choose to wear uncomfortable clothes. There's such a vast range of options available, one can't say it's all uncomfortable.

I rarely wear jeans for example - they're heavy and I don't like belts.

I wear lots of dresses as they're so much more comfortable.

EphraimLevi · 05/04/2018 10:07

I’m actually wearing a dress tonight for the second time this year which might be a record. (V nice restaurant, don’t think they’d be too happy with my usual togs).

I wouldn't even go downstairs in my pajamas. Get up, washed and dressed then go down for breakfast. If I'm doing chores or pottering around the house that morning I'll just change later in the afternoon.

Mrsglitterfairy · 05/04/2018 10:14

I love my pjs and always have nice sets, I was recently away with work at an event and when we got back to the hotel, we were still having a drink in the bar and then in a friend’s room and I had my pjs on for that. Wandered around the whole place in them, outside smoking etc, even had my pink slippers on Grin

IIlustriouslyIllogical · 05/04/2018 10:36

A car pulled up next to us and out got mum, dad and two children. They were all in their pyjamas, with dressing gowns and slippers. Then a people carrier pulled up next to them and about 7 people emerged in various items of nightwear.

See - for me that's getting into the realms of "they have ishoos", definitely ripe for a good "share & mock" though. Fruitloops!!

BoucleJacket · 05/04/2018 10:38

I've answered to door in my pyjamas and dressing gown if it's a parcel delivery or something but I hate doing it.
I've never stepped outside the door in nightwear other than in darkness to stick something in the bin at the back door.

I always wonder if these people in pyjamas that are in shops etc. are still wearing the stuff they slept in - because that's grim.

And if they aren't and have changed to fresh nightwear then why??

Why not shove on a t-shirt and jeans or joggers? Clothes that are designed for outdoor use and actually have better fabric and cut than pyjamas.

And the argument that some pyjamas look like joggers or leggings doesn't ring true for me - most pyjamas look like pyjamas!

Even if you wear a proper t-shirt and leggings to bed you wouldn't seriously go out shopping or to a restaurant in your sweaty just-out-of bed clothes would you??

I don't care if anyone thinks I'm old fashioned or snobby but going about outside in pyjamas is slovenly.

RebelRogue · 05/04/2018 10:38

@IIlustriouslyIllogical what's with the obsession to "share and mock "?

RoseWhiteTips · 05/04/2018 10:39

Sleep.

RoseWhiteTips · 05/04/2018 10:40

Outside? NEVER.
Don’t people have any dignity? Jeez

RoseWhiteTips · 05/04/2018 10:42

forceslover · 05/04/2018 10:43

Sleep, dash to out bins out, housework, eating breakfast. End of.

Mia1415 · 05/04/2018 10:44

The first 2 only and I don't like doing either. It's not a pretty sight and I don't like scaring people!

IIlustriouslyIllogical · 05/04/2018 10:46

what's with the obsession to "share and mock "?

Because some things need to be shared!! That's what Facebook is for, hence the proliferation of "Your're So Council" type pages - this'd fit in there a treat!!

BoucleJacket · 05/04/2018 10:53

You're a bit of a twat IllustriouslyIllogical aren't you?

battenbergbutterfly · 05/04/2018 11:00

Depends on your set really, all of my mother's pjs are so pretty and look more like fancy tracksuits, so she would definitely drive to the nearest shop or go on a school run wearing them.

And I trained myself to use pjs only to sleep + brush my teeth, as I work from home it can be very tempting to stay in pjs all day, DH made me feel a little bit guilty about my appearance so I treated myself to some comfortable clothes that I can wear to the shop or take a dog for a walk in.

Anyway, you should wear whatever you feel comfortable in, I guess you will know for yourself when pjs are not appropriate Grin

TomRavenscroft · 05/04/2018 11:06

I usually sleep naked, so this is largely hypothetical, but...

Answer the door Yes, certainly. I work at home and a lot of my 'proper' clothes I wear for doing so aren't much more cop than PJs anyway Grin

Put the bins out. Of course.

Go down to breakfast in someone’s house. Yes, definitely, and people do the same at my house.

Go down to breakfast in a hotel Don't think I would but can't quite articulate why and wouldn't care if someone else did.

Go to the shops. Never yet felt the need to, but in theory I would in winter when I could put a big coat and knee boots on.

I don't have dogs but I'd imagine it'd be too cold, unless it was in winter again and I could wear coat and boots. Would probably rather get dressed for this though, unless it was a quick nip to the park at the bottom of the road just for the dog to have a piss.

I don't have kids and I like to fondly imagine that they'd walk or cycle to school if I did.

DariaG · 05/04/2018 11:13

Haven't you ever seen people wearing hotel bathrobes for breakfast?!Grin

TheDowagerCuntess · 05/04/2018 11:14

And I think it't a bit of a sexist topic- it's usually women who are being criticised for wearin PJs in public.

Probably because it's usually women who wear pyjamas in public.

If men did it - they'd be the grim, skanky unwashed - and rightly criticised, too.

But for some reason, men are much less likely to do it.

BarricadesBabe · 05/04/2018 11:47

We do the school run by public transport, so I do feel the need to get properly dressed. However, I can imagine being tempted to stay in my pyjama-like work-at-home gear if I were staying in the car all the time with just a brief stop to let DC out.

Again, it's the private vs. public space thing. The car feels like (semi) private space.

windchimesabotage · 05/04/2018 12:23

why do some people make lives so hard for themselves? I mean really do some people get fully dressed just to take out the bins or go to the shop on the corner for milk? Whats the point?

Maybe im an utter skank but I dont give two shits what people wear as long as they dont smell and it isnt covered with offensive images or words. (and even then id just roll my eyes at the most)

Life is too short.

This reminds me of the thread about the 'decent' time to have your curtains open and shut!

If you want to live with these certain rules because it makes you happy then thats great.... but to be outraged by other peoples choices is so ridiculous

IIlustriouslyIllogical · 05/04/2018 12:30

I mean really do some people get fully dressed just to take out the bins or go to the shop on the corner for milk? Whats the point?

A bit of personal pride & dignity I suppose. If you don't get dressed to go to the shops, what else don't you do that normal people do??
