Answer the door

Put the bins out.

Go down to breakfast in someone’s house.

Go down to breakfast in a hotel

Early morning dog walk

Go to the shops.

Do the school run.

??

I would (and do!) do all except the last three because I am terminally lazy and rarely dressed before noon if I don’t have to be. AIBU and a dreadful skank?

Sleep
Answer the door to unexpected callers
Be in an hospital bed
Have breakfast in your own home

I would throw some clothes on, and some shoes, before taking the bins on the street.
Everything else is grim. Either you sleep in your pjs, then why would you wear them in public?, or you don't then why don't you put on real clothes instead?

ikeepaforkinmypurse · 05/04/2018 00:13

RebelRogue both are obviously nightwear and neither are appropriate wear to be seen with in public

A onesie is not appropriate either.

Ginkypig · 05/04/2018 00:14

The first 2 but I have been known to nip over to my friend/neighbor in them too.

I wouldn't go down to breakfast In them in a hotel but I have been down to have a middle of the night cig in pj's but I put my coat on over them.

Ginkypig · 05/04/2018 00:15

Oh and hospital means I'm ill so il wear the hell out of whatever I want!

GreenTulips · 05/04/2018 00:15

I’m talking Premier Inn rather than a boutique hotel

Makes no difference - it's grim

notacooldad · 05/04/2018 00:15

Re the hotel, I’m talking Premier Inn rather than a boutique hotel
It is still rank.
Out of your list I would say open the door if it was early in the morning or late at night

LellyMcKelly · 05/04/2018 00:16

First two, but only because I live in a really quiet street and nobody had direct line sight of the house, and the second one is only because bin day has changed and I’ve forgotten until I can hear them up the road.

NobodyKnowsTiddlyPom · 05/04/2018 00:17

I don't even like going downstairs at home if I'm not dressed. If I'm poorly I'll spend the day in my pyjamas but otherwise I'm dressed at home.
When we were lambing, or when it's horrible weather and I've had to get up early to sort the outside animals out (sheep, chickens etc), I've pulled a coat, hat and wellies (sometimes waterproof trousers) over the top of my pyjamas, because I was going back to bed afterwards.

DamsonOnThisDress · 05/04/2018 00:19

Answer the door: Before 11am yes, but I keep body behind door and keek round hoping they don't clock I'm in jammies. After 11am no.

Put the bins out: Yeah, live in country, throw coat over but husband usually does it because if I go to botheration of remembering what day bin day is I might forget other, more interesting, stuff.

Go down to breakfast in someone’s house: close friend or family, yep.

Go down to breakfast in a hotel: oh, lordy no.

Early morning dog walk: tried it once - well, threw jeans and coat on over the top so no one would know. The sweat that resulted under bosom due to lack of bra was unsettling. Haven't quite got over it. Never again. It was a sad day.

Go to the shops: no.

Do the school run: well, I work in the school so boss wouldn't be too impressed...but you have no idea how much I love charity wear your jammies days. I really wish I ticked all those on your list. Jammies are fabulous. Damn you, dignity!

yorkshireyummymummy · 05/04/2018 00:19

None of them.
I do sometimes spend the whole day in pajamas but I wouldn’t set foot outside the house or answer the door. And , oddly, if I’m going downstairs I will put fresh pajamas on. And, I iron my pajamas so they look nice too.

I wouldn’t dream of going downstairs for breakfast - wether it be in somebody else’s house or in an hotel.

And as for the school run or Tesco’s - Christ on a bike, do people really do that? I don’t know anybody who does and frankly I’m pleased that I don’t!!

But I really really love pajamas. Really really. My mother would think I’m a slob for leaving the bedroom in nightwear at all so it’s just different strokes really isn’t it!

BoomBoomsCousin · 05/04/2018 00:20

I think they're all acceptable in the sense of not something you should get arrested for.

I would only do the first (and I'd be embarrassed if it was after 9 am on a weekday or 11 on a weekend), the second (but only if bins v. near the door and not at the front of the house) and the third (but only with people I know well, like family).

To be honest I think some boutique hotels are better set up with an ambience for breakfasting in your PJs than Premier Inn is.

FrancisUnderwood · 05/04/2018 00:20

No difference whatsoever between doing it in the Savoy or Swaffham Premier Inn.

Probably worse in the premier inn as it's a buffet style breakfast and all your sleep related dead skin/hairs/seepage will be imposed upon the food items.

Both those items in the pictures absolutely look like PJ's by the way, fooling no-one.

WeirdAndPissedOff · 05/04/2018 00:23

First two, and possibly the third depending how well I knew the person/people.
I also drive regularly in pyjamas, as long as I'm not getting out of the car. I'll throw on a hoodie/coat if it's light/busy enough outside though. And I'm sure I'll be caught out one day when my car breaks down!

I've been tempted to pop to the shop in pyjamas a few times, but usually put on a quick change of clothes instead.

RebelRogue · 05/04/2018 00:25

@ikeepaforkinmypurse i would never ever wear a onesie inside or outside.

Skarossinkplunger · 05/04/2018 00:25

I was having breakfast in a hotel on Tuesday morning and a woman came down in her PJ’s, I cringed for her.

ikeepaforkinmypurse · 05/04/2018 00:26

i would never ever wear a onesie inside or outside
I have seen people in onesies in a supermarket Shock. It honestly made them look dirty. Yuk.

EasterBunBun · 05/04/2018 00:29

The first two - if my actual nightwear, which is a sleeveless nightdress, not pjs. Anything more public in that would look deranged rather than relaxed.

happymummy12345 · 05/04/2018 00:29

None. I don't even have any pyjamas. I sleep naked, so have no need for them. Round the house I wear tracksuit bottoms and comfy t shirts. I feel awful enough if I have to open the door in them

FrancisUnderwood · 05/04/2018 00:29

I worked in housekeeping for a while for a big hotel chain.

Things happen to people when they sleep.....they seep, and sweat. The amout of bedsheets one sees with blood spots on, people seem to bleed a lot while they're sleeping, odd.

Plus there's the ones who don't wipe properly if they're half asleep...skids and drips a plenty....

Plus your and your partner's pubes, hairs/ skin/sweat/fluff.

Cross contamination, innit.

manicinsomniac · 05/04/2018 00:30

Answering the door - yes but would put a hoodie on if it's after 9am or before 9pm to try and hide the pyjama-ness.

Putting the bins out - yes if it was dark or I put a coat on top.

Going to breakfast in someone's house - yes if it's my mum's, my sister's or a close friend's house.

All the others - no way.

Grandadwasthatyou · 05/04/2018 00:39

Seeing as I am the op who started a thread on seeing a family in their pyjamas at breakfast in my hotel this morning then I have to say I wouldn't do anything on your list in my pyjamas. If I remember I haven't put the bin out and I hear the binmen at the end of the street I do a quick check left and right looking out of the door before I quickly run out to the bin.

I was brought up to always look decent when out of the house. I guess it's different if as some posters have said they've got pyjamas on underneath their coat and you can't tell.

Chouetted · 05/04/2018 00:45

I've been known to wear pyjamas as daywear, so all of those, but how you'd tell that my tshirt and leggings came out of the nightwear section of the shop rather than the daywear section is beyond me. The only practical difference is that pj ones are comfier and easier on my sensory issues.

If I'm wearing something a bit skantier, like shorts, and need to go out, I'll bung a skirt or trousers over them. It's not a fashion parade, and after seeing someone in my local shop near closing time in dressing gown and fluffy slippers, I'm pretty sure noone's going to notice, even if they had x-ray vision.

TinklyLittleLaugh · 05/04/2018 00:48

I sleep naked but pop my pyjamas on to get DS up for school, (he travels there on his own).

I work from home and have been known to keep my PJs on all day. But to be honest, even if I dress, my hanging around the house clothes are yoga pants and a cotton T shirt. So basically pyjamas.

Chouetted · 05/04/2018 00:48

If you see someone in their PJs in public, you should be thinking "Good for them, they made it out of the house!", not criticising their satorial style. Some people have to choose between getting dressed and going to the shops. I've certainly been in that position myself.

If you don't, you're very lucky.

NotUmbongoUnchained · 05/04/2018 00:55

I have done all of those things in pyjamas. And more.
