78 pensioner arrested for fatally stabbing burglar in his own home

SShaming · 04/04/2018 12:20

2 burglars break into a 78 year old man’s home armed with screwdriver.

Forces owner into the kitchen whilst one of them goes upstairs.

A fight ensues, leaving pensioner with injuries to his arm and burglary is fatally stabbed. Perhaps with his own screwdriver although this is TBC.

Police arrest pensioner.

On what planet is this right?

I must admit this guy seems like he is zero loss to society. A drug addict with a long history of committing crimes against the vulnerable... he's never going to atone for his crimes even, never mind be a useful member of society.

But I can't be glad he's dead. That's a very slippery and slope that leads nowhere good.

If there was enough evidence that no trial is needed that has to be a good thing for the elderly victims and the state purse. But we may see his criminal family try and pursue some sort of civil action, who knows.

FabulouslyGlamorousFerret · 06/04/2018 18:46

I fear for the 78 year old, it sounds like burglar Bill has a big dodgy family behind him - I hope they don't seek vengeance.

stitchglitched · 06/04/2018 18:47

Good, impressed with how quickly the decision has been made so that he is not left waiting and wondering what will happen to him. I hope he and his wife are doing ok.

choseausername1 · 06/04/2018 18:47

@TabbyMack- it did change the law as it put on a statutory footing that which was not there previously... as you’ll have noted I put a very brief summary of what was a long and complex case. If you’re interested in extra reading, look at the 2014 case that occurred in Kilkenny on Valentine’s Day 2014 (if memory serves me correctly) I don’t have a citation as it never went to court, but that came under the 2011 Act too.

I must go back to college and tell my criminal law lecturer she’s been misleading students for years Hmm

AJPTaylor · 06/04/2018 18:49

Good.
Is it too soon to nominate him for a medal for services to his fellow pensioners?

Madbengalmum · 06/04/2018 18:51

Pleased this guy has been let off for this and not put through it for months.

TabbyMack · 06/04/2018 18:53

Tell whoever you like, but I read up on it and no new law was introduced...a common law provision was codified. In actuality nothing changed although public perception was that it did.

I’m afraid claims of expertise on MN go over my head. Your remarks either stand up to scrutiny of they don’t.

I, of course, am a high court judge. So there.

Scabetty · 06/04/2018 18:56

Brilliant news but it will take a lot of support for him to recover from this. He will no doubt feel guilt for taking the intruder’s life even though the intruder was a career criminal with no conscience whatsoever. A bottom-feeder from a scumbag family who prey on the weak and vulnerable deserves no sympathy.

Shinycat · 06/04/2018 18:57

No further action to be taken against the gentleman who killed someone in self defence.

The world is a better place right now! If only for a few moments.

Thank goodness common sense prevails. I hope the vermin scum who broke in and got what he deserves rots in hell.

Shinycat · 06/04/2018 18:59

I won't say I am glad the criminal is dead, but I am not sorry either.

Wouldn't be dead if he hadn't gone into this elderly gentleman's house to rob him (with the intention to harm anyone who got in his way.)

Did LOL at the criminals stupid cousin saying he didn't deserve to die.... That's debatable,... Wink

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 06/04/2018 19:06

Ypu don't Betty. He (Richard) might be thinking. FucK the cunt. He deserved to die. He was invading my home which me and my wife have worked for. Plus he was intending to do us harm.

Homemenu1 · 06/04/2018 19:07

And now the victim has had his house boarded up and presumably having to live else where, in case of attacks, no this is where the police need to step up.

His poor wife, can you imagine how confused she must feel

Shinycat · 06/04/2018 19:14

He (Richard) might be thinking. FUCK the cunt. He deserved to die. He was invading my home which me and my wife have worked for. Plus he was intending to do us harm.

So what if he DID think that. I would have.

And let's face it, if the gentleman hadn't attacked the piece of scum who broke in, HE would have been the one who died. The scum robbers had weapons, and were not going to ask for a cup of sugar. Hmm

As I said, they intended to rob this man's house, and cause harm to ANYone who got in their way.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 06/04/2018 19:24

I fully agree Shiny. I was reply to the pp which said about him feeling guilty

Scabetty · 06/04/2018 19:27

Well if he is thinking fuck the cunt I don’tcare because why should his head be fucked with guilt over a waste of skin who chose to break in to his house. Why does a career criminal deserve any consideration?

Shinycat · 06/04/2018 19:30

Oh sorry @spider. Smile

Shinycat · 06/04/2018 19:30

Agree with you @scabetty

AJPTaylor · 06/04/2018 19:49

My dpil were conned by rogue builders who targeted them just because they were elderly and vulnerable.
Not only did it cost them the few savings they had, it scared them and my dpil felt utterly humiliated..A man who worked hard his whole life at the hands of a waste of space scumbag

Tainbri · 06/04/2018 19:56

Wouldn't be dead if he hadn't gone into this elderly gentleman's house to rob him (with the intention to harm anyone who got in his way.)

Exactly

And for that very reason he got exactly what he deserved. Karma. I hope it's a lesson to other scrotum scumbags. Give the old boy a medal.

Scabetty · 06/04/2018 20:11

Guardian saying he wouldn’t have been given death penalty and so didn’t deserve to die are missing the point. He didn’t give a thought to his victims; he was armed with a screwdriver and terrorised people by breaking in when they were asleep. He targetted the elderly and considered this type of crime as a legitimate income. A parasite. A consequence of this is having someone fight back and get the better of you. Anyway the police say no case to answer whch is a great result.

Numbkinnuts · 06/04/2018 20:18

Billy burglars family now need to concentrate on his accomplice who left him for dead. 🤔

Will be interesting to see who that was. They are keeping quiet about that. Not seen any reference by family to finding his thieving mate.

JediJim · 06/04/2018 20:26

If anyone has ever been burgled before you’ll know how traumatic it can be. Then there’s the clearing up afterwards, the financial costs and the trying to get over it. I was once burgled but wasn’t home at the time.
This man targeted old people, and was equipped with a screwdriver. He was willing to use this on a vulnerable old person. His so called lovely mate left him to die as well ( no honour amongst thieves eh?)

The victim in this crime is the elderly man and his wife.

SShaming · 06/04/2018 20:30

Common sense prevails. Thank fuck for that.

I wonder if the accomplice was part of the same family. Given their ongoing pensioner targeting racket, it seems quite possible.
