To say how gobsmacked I am by what a friend told me

Yesterday I met with a newish friend and not sure how but we got onto the subject of how she met her husband.

Apparently she was fairly newly divorced and decided to check out the lonely hearts column in the local paper. She marked three as possibly of interest and tried telephoning them. Only one of the three answered the phone and after a chat they decided to meet at her house (I know, HUGE no no) on the Thursday and she would cook dinner.

The date went so well that from meeting on the Thursday he had moved in by the Sunday and they were married less than two months later.

They celebrated their 23rd wedding anniversary earlier this year.

I've never heard anything like it, have you? And has it lasted the course of time?

Lovely stories Smile

Anythingforacatslife friend is definitely not your MiL. She has one unmarried DC and her DH had not been married previously.

SilverySurfer phew!! Although judging by this thread it seems that there are many similar stories.

minionsrule · 01/04/2018 18:52

My sister met her now dh on a blind date on her 20th birthday, they got married 2 months later, by her 21st birthday she had a 2 week old ds..... next Jan is their 40th wedding anniversary.
I love telling that story Smile

These stories are just lovely. No playing games, no posting 'when d'you text after the first date' thread. People just falling on love and leaping off the cliff. Love it.

Was in the UK on business and met DH on an outing with friends on a Monday. We met up Wednesday, Friday-Saturday (Wink) and Sunday and on Monday he took the day off work to drive me to the airport. On the flight home I just knew I wanted to spend more time with him. We skyped every day for two months until he came to visit me where I lived. Two months later I moved to the UK and into his flat. That first encounter was 13 years ago this week. When you know you know.

My DH and I were married 10 months after we first started emailing each other. He proposed to me 2 months after we first met! We'll be celebrating our 15th anniversary on Thursday. Smile

My uncle met his wife shortly after she had been widowed young. She had no children. They got engaged after 3 weeks and married in 6 together until he died. She married again a couple of years after my uncle died that was the last we heard from her of I hope she is still somewhere happy with her third husband.
My brother met his wife in a chat room, remember them something to do with some computer game, he went to visit her one weekend and never came home. I think they have been together 15 years now. Married for 10.

I randomly met DH in a pub - made an offhand comment about how busy it was, his mate offered to buy me a drink - I ended up hooking up with DH. Moved in together within a few months, split up after a year. Two years apart with no contact, then we got back in touch, met up for a coffee, a few weeks later he texted that he had a spare ticket to Reading festival and would I like to go? A few months after that we were engaged, a few weeks after that I was pregnant - DD was born just less than a year after we got back together. Been nearly 10 years since we first met, back together nearly 7 years, married nearly 4. Currently planning a mercy shag to see if we can kickstart labour with DC3 Grin we are still super super happy, more in love now than ever. I always think first time round was a case of right people, wrong time. Eternally grateful that we gave it another chance Smile

Met DH online in an mmorpg and chatted to him in game for a few months. Invited him round for dinner one night, he went back to his the next morning for his toothbrush and clothes. 13 years, 2 DC and the biggest of all house moves later - still together, still very happy, still the best team of any married couple I know.

I put it down to the gaming - if you work as a team in a game because you have to, it translates into rl situations.

DappledThings · 01/04/2018 20:53

PIL worked in shops next to each other. She stood him up on first date (she can't remember why) but turned up when he rearranged. Engaged after 3 weeks and been married for 44 years. 3 DC, 3DGC.

thebear1 · 01/04/2018 20:53

My parents met and married within 7 months and will have been married nearly 57 years. Their oldest child is 50.

lifechangesforever · 01/04/2018 20:56

I met DH through plenty of fish.. we met in the local Morrison's car park in September, and went back to his shared house for a BBQ.

I'd moved in 3 weeks later, were engaged by Christmas and we've now been married 6 years, bought 2 houses and expecting our first daughter!

GinIsIn · 01/04/2018 21:00

First date on Friday, moved in together on Tuesday. Together 6 years now. Easter Grin

Laniakea · 01/04/2018 21:00

dh & I met at a party on Saturday night, he drove me home the next day & never left. We waited until Tuesday to 'officially' live together & went to Hatton Garden to buy rings on Thursday. That was 20 years & four kids ago :)

Merryhobnobs · 01/04/2018 21:01

Sent each other a message on Match. Exchanged emails for a week. 1st date was 3 dates all rolled into one. Moved in with him just under 3 months later... had a baby together 5 years later. Got married the same week our baby turned 1. 7 yrs together now. It was crazy but we just knew.

CantChoose · 01/04/2018 21:03

My friend’s OLD never went home afte their first date :) it happens!

ObsessionalConfessional · 01/04/2018 21:03

My husband is a one night stand who basically never left - more or less moved in immediately, engaged after 3 months, married after 3 years when our daughter was 1. We celebrate ten years together this summer!

CrochetBelle · 01/04/2018 21:14

My granny left her abusive husband in the 50s, with two children. She then met my grandad and they were married within 13 days of meeting. They had a further 3 kids and were together until my grandad moved into a home about five years ago. They both died about 2 years ago within 6 weeks of each other.

ScienceIsTruth · 01/04/2018 21:17

Met in a chatroom online, and 2 months later in rl and moved to a different country to be with him 2 months after that.

We'd only been together in rl for less than 2 weeks of that 4 months as we lived in different countries at the time.

Been together almost 20 years now and married for 18yrs of those.

DonkeyPunch88 · 01/04/2018 21:18

Iv not finished reading the thread yet but thought I'd add mine.

Dp moved Countries and moved into my flat with me within 6 months of us meeting. Very happily together 15 years later.

LinoleumBlownapart · 01/04/2018 21:24

We've been married for 18 years, moved in together after a month of meeting and engaged within 3 months. A close friend was living with her husband a month after meeting on a fresh out of uni job. They're still going strong too.

seasidelife · 01/04/2018 21:24

Met DH in the local rock club, he never went home, took 6 years to get married, 7th wedding anniversary this year so 13 years and 2 kids, pretty productive ONS ;)
