I don't care....I love them....and I really hope Ant comes back. There I said it.

He may be an addict but he will have had enough sober times to be able to decide that he can't be trusted with a car and he has enough money that he could employ a driver.

Even if you disagree with that is it really in his best interests to be back in front of such an intense public eye again? You may want him back on TV so you can enjoy watching him but is that really the right thing from his point of view and long term health?

RoseWhiteTips · 01/04/2018 15:15

Have never watched their programme but they seem to be very good at what they do. One needs the other to perform, though, so yes, I do hope Ant recovers and returns.

SingingMouse · 01/04/2018 15:20

It makes no difference that nobody died this time. He was drunk driving. Yes it's shit he has addiction problems, but that is not an excuse or a reason.

SingingMouse · 01/04/2018 15:23

If he had killed somebody, which he didn't do this time through luck, would people still be saying 'Oh poor Ant, he made a mistake'?

Sparklingbrook · 01/04/2018 15:25

Why do you keep saying 'this time' SingingMouse. Are you assuming there will be a 'next time'?

YerAuntFanny · 01/04/2018 15:26

Mydoghatesthebath, that's the point.

No one died this time, pushing it aside as silly little mistake doesn't help. If people just brush it aside because of his job then what happens when John Doe makes the same mistake and does end up hurting someone? Should he only be punished based on the injuries sustained or would he be blasted by the public/press for getting in the first place? Why should it be any different just because he wasn't lucky enough to avoid an accident?

Driving under the influence is a crime in itself and for good reason too, I'm really glad that no one was seriously injured in this case but let's not pretend it's because he didn't intend to do so. It was sheer luck.

Sparklingbrook · 01/04/2018 15:28

I hope the judge is reading all this ready for the case this week, and taking notes.

OddBoots · 01/04/2018 15:29

I took 'this time' to mean this time someone chose to drive under the influence, other times people have done the same thing people have died.

SingingMouse · 01/04/2018 15:29

No not at all, but who knows if this has been the first time. Lets hope there won't be a next time, but someone that is a drunk driver you just don't know do you? They clearly have very skewed judgement, so can't be trusted with car keys.

YerAuntFanny · 01/04/2018 15:31

It amazes me how many people are blinded by celebrity status.

A drunk driver is a drunk driver.

SingingMouse · 01/04/2018 15:33

Yes, I agree YerAuntFanny

LucilleBluth · 01/04/2018 15:34

These photos were taken a couple of months apart. One is of a healthy person, one is of someone who has hit the booze hard....in my opinion of course.

How can people not have sympathy.

Right, I've got to finish cooking Easter lunch for 10.

He smashed into another car whilst drinking and driving. He could easily have been another Luke McCormick, it was pure luck that he didn't kill anyone. I like Ant and Dec as presenters but the fawning over him is ridiculous.

SingingMouse · 01/04/2018 15:37

It's not about not having sympathy for his addictions, it's about not making excuses and being ok with drunk driving. Two separate issues.

YerAuntFanny · 01/04/2018 15:37

I have sympathy for anyone battling addiction.

I do not have sympathy for anyone who has committed a potentially fatal crime because of it.

With that said, I haven't actually seen any reported quotes that he has blamed his addiction. That seems to be what the public want to hear. Personally, I'd have more respect if he just owns up to it and leaves it at that. There are no reasonable excuses

Sparklingbrook · 01/04/2018 15:38

It amazes me how far people want to stray from the actual facts of the particular case in point.

I think I am all Ant and Dec'd out now.

It's going to be quite a week.

PortiaCastis · 01/04/2018 15:39

I've no sympathy for anyone who drink drives

YerAuntFanny · 01/04/2018 15:41

I don't watch anything with them anyway, not a judgement based on them in particular just that the shows they work on don't appeal to me, so it makes no odds to me really.

Should Ant lose his job forever, well no.

But should it be brushed under the carpet, no.

MsGameandWatching · 01/04/2018 15:44

I don't think it's all about alcohol. He looks like he's having a full scale nervous breakdown to me and has been functioning by the skin of his teeth and now cannot anymore. I think it's probably drug related to be quite honest. Extensive drug use leading to a mental collapse. I feel sorry for anyone going through that and feel that he's not in his right mind. That's not excusing him, I am no fan. I've never watched a single episode of any show he's presented.

"I don't think whatever punishment he gets will ever be enough for some"

Well over on the skin removal surgery thread there is a similar attitude. A poster who has lost 20 stone is being told she doesnt deserve to have the loose skin removed even though it splits every time she moves and she is at high risk of infection. If she should be forced to live like that for the rest of her life and to be constantly reminded of her mistake as punishment for once being overweight when HER PROBLEM HAS NOT HURT ANYONE ELSE then why the fuck shouldnt drink drivers be constantly reminded of theirs!!

FFS!

Sparklingbrook · 01/04/2018 15:52
Confused
HelenaDove · 01/04/2018 15:54

Speaking of Jim Davidson did anyone see his tweet about Stormy Daniels? Hmm

But hey..............he does loads for charity right? So his rampant misogyny doesnt matter.

Sparklingbrook · 01/04/2018 15:55
HelenaDove · 01/04/2018 15:57

Why the confused face Sparkling. There is more sympathy for alchoholics than there ever is for someone who is overweight.

No one has ever driven under the influence of a Krispy Kreme.
