I don't care....I love them....and I really hope Ant comes back. There I said it.

@userxx yes, totally heartbreaking -

I think people of my generation (mid 40s) had it hammered in to us that there was little worse than drink driving - older people and younger people dont seem to despise it as much as people in my age range
i think anyone who drives while impaired is scum, i dont care if you are ill, you make a choice to sit behind the wheel, and those who can easily afford to pay someone to drive them? whats the excuse?

OyO · 01/04/2018 11:25

Exactly, NewYear. Wayne Rooney is another but people are still free to support Everton/England without being asking ‘so does that mean you condone drink driving and using prostitutes?’

George Bush is another.

Wish I had more likeable examples.

Sparklingbrook · 01/04/2018 11:25

You might want to be off MN this week too MsGameandWatching because it's going to get a whole lot worse.

MsGameandWatching · 01/04/2018 11:29
Shock
abbsisspartacus · 01/04/2018 11:33

My ex stepmom has addiction issues she sent her licence back gave it up rather than drink drive I respect her decision

hidinginthenightgarden · 01/04/2018 11:33

I agree with OP.
I have always loved them and feel so sorry for Ant.
Yes he did a stupid thing and yes he should not get away with it lightly. I personally think he has been punished by the media and public enough. He has had his name dragged through the mud, damaged his career and probably his friendship with Dec to some degree. He has lost his wife this year and his mental health. The guy needs help not more berating.

AngeloMysterioso · 01/04/2018 11:35

Has it been confirmed that he was over the limit then? I know he failed the breathalyser but that doesn’t mean he was d&d. My DM crashed her car last year and failed the roadside breathalyser, not because she’d been drinking (she hadn’t) but because she had a panic attack and couldn’t hold her breath long enough to take the test, so it was an automatic fail.

Hmm
insancerre · 01/04/2018 11:45

Agree with nakedavenger

Andrewofgg · 01/04/2018 11:46

AngeloMysterioso Failing or indeed refusing the roadside breathalyser is not an offence and you cannot be charged with it. It triggers a power of arrest and the obligation to blow into the evidential machine - and it's failing or refusing that that leads to a charge and, if convicted, to disqualification.

All will be revealed on Wednesday and in the meantime we should draw no conclusions - but that of course is pissing into the wind, if you will forgive a male metaphor!

LucilleBluth · 01/04/2018 12:35

For heavens sake, the whataboutery on here is astonishing. He didn't kill anyone. Nobody died. What he did does not cancel out the previous 20 odd years of his career.

So much black and white thinking.

bizmum1 · 01/04/2018 12:37

Let he who has not sinned cast the first stone. Ant has been in a dark place and may still be in that dark place. Addiction is a terrible thing and I sincerely hope he gets through it and returns to our screens with Dec where he belongs.
I actually met him and Dec once and they could not have been nicer and more normal lads.

expatinscotland · 01/04/2018 12:52

April Fools Day sucks.

SaucyJane · 01/04/2018 13:04

So if someone had died, then you'd think drink driving was a bad thing, OP? Simply astonishing Confused

I've worked on some drink driving cases and they are fucking heartbreaking and infuriating. There's a place on the M6 where a footballer who was still pissed from the night before killed two young boys and left their father paralysed because he got in his car rather than a taxi.

It's never ever ever ok.

I hope Ant is able to sort out his demons and then uses what he did to educate people - because clearly the message still hasn't penetrated to everyone.

Mydoghatesthebath · 01/04/2018 13:18

Totally agree op.

Agree he’s done a very stupid thing snd thankfully no one was hurt. Hopefully ant gets better snd sorts his life out.

I don’t drink and drink but i was caught speeding. There’s s lot of hypocrisy on here as everyone who drives has st some point done a careless manoeuvre or exceeded thrspeed limit or had s moment of brain fade that could have ended badly, everyone and those spitting the most bile are usually the worst culprits.

Get well soon Ant praying got you this Easter

Gide · 01/04/2018 13:20

Maybe it’s time for some new faces? These two have monopolised a lot of popular entertainment TV for a long time. I doubt Ant will be allowed to come back after this. It’s not something minor like a bit of shoplifting, it’s a far more serious crime which people can relate to because they’ve seen the effects on the media or within their own families.

Mydoghatesthebath · 01/04/2018 13:20

Sorry praying for you

Of course he will come back as long as he is cured and healthy.

For goodness sake he’s hardly been caught with child porn.

YoThePussy · 01/04/2018 13:37

He’ll be back and although I am not an Ant and Dec fan particularly I hope they will as they are a popular and strangely likeable couple of guys.

After all Cheryl Tweedy who regularly reinvents herself came back from a nasty incident a number of years ago which involved a court case. Look how successful she is and such a ‘National Treasure’.

SingingMouse · 01/04/2018 14:09

LucilleBluth He's a drunk driver. Drnk drivers are cunts pure and simple. It is black and white. Ant = Drunk driver.

SingingMouse · 01/04/2018 14:10

*drunk

EveningHare · 01/04/2018 14:57

SaucyJane

This
He was lucky that no one died (if he was impaired by drink or drugs or whatever)

Mydoghatesthebath · 01/04/2018 15:09

Yes indeed but thankfully nobody did die did they so stop the pearl clutching and general virtue signalling snd let’s hope a person who is obviously suffering a melt down and a life crisis finds help and peace.

Gods sake such bile and hatred for a man who
Has made a huge mistake, as all human beings can and do, even maybe some mumsnetters.
