The thread continues....if it hasn't continued elsewhere! @Lateforall it was me who questioned Lobella loves depression wears lippy campaign. I get that the idea is that being a bit glam might be a way of coping. And i have been guilty of putting my face on to carry on in the world. I get that not everyone with pnd is sat at home in pjs unshowered with greasy hair. But I just find the whole thing so false on her account - maybe that is because I know of her in real life.

But I think so many of them have massivley over exaggerated aspects of their lives because it sells. Whether that is FODs clumsy parenting or whatever. But it really doesnt sit well

kirinm just been to have a look at the name drop of the one with the car - it clearly says they were lent a car.
Could say ad as well, granted, but she has mentioned she has been lent one. Hardly keeping it a secret.

Mumofkids · 04/04/2018 10:24

@nipersvest that is a point raised earlier. MOFOD's trip to Disney (based on my experience of travelling with toddlers) was probably really hard work and for a week a bit mental, but the ad had to be positive. Cue loads of people saying 'you've inspired me to travel with toddlers' 'I've booked a holiday off the back of this' which makes me think they decided that rather than FOD go to St Lucia he would stay home with the twins and they wouldn't have to pass up an all inclusive holiday. But they couldn't indicate travelling with toddlers long haul as tricky having just indicated it was fun. That is just my opinion on the posts, but it did come across that way from Disney. Maybe I'm just cynical when it comes to travelling with toddlers!
I've unfollowed Clemmie Telford this morning, seems nice enough but that Thailand post just indicated our differences 😊 I think I'll be popping over to unfollow DLAM now. Her account is losing followers despite the references on here, so she should probably review her oractices...

HolyMountain · 04/04/2018 10:25

Cady, it’s not about the actual car, she’s after the multimac for free and gently eased the ‘hey, what about 3 car seats’ at the end.

MadameGrizzly · 04/04/2018 10:25

DLAM's car seat grifting is so clumsy!

The Merc is an ad and should be tagged as such. Doesn't matter that she thanked the brand.

nipersvest · 04/04/2018 10:26

I'm going to unfollow DLAM too, was already a bit bored with her insta feed but the sly advertising is rife. Mercedes have lent them cars before, so quite clearly there's an agreement there (never mentioned though), the trip to Cornwall, on one of her posts there's a comment from someone in travel PR saying 'was lovely to meet you', so I'm guessing the whole trip was subsidised (easy to find the comment, there's so few due to the low engagement level Wink ). The Morocco trip was clearly a deal with iescapes as she was also doing a take over on their insta feed while they were away. I know this post is going to sound over invested but just finding out all that only took minutes, she's so blatant.

CadyHeron · 04/04/2018 10:30

Bolding to show which bit I'm referring to.
Why the heck woukd mercedes lend them a car if no agreed square and good reveiw

The publicity, for one. It's more exposure for them. If they lend a car, it gets their name and products out in front of a bigger audience and fresh eyes.
It's been mentioned over here for a start which shows that lots of people are watching, engaging, and talking about them.

PavlovaPrincess · 04/04/2018 10:33

@MadameGrizzly I've reported. According to the ASA, 'leant' isn't anywhere clear enough and should be disclosed as an ad.

BeansandSausages · 04/04/2018 10:33

This might sound daft but I think MOD would do herself a lot of favours with a bit of punctuation. When she responds to anything there is never any emotion to it as it's lacking punctuation. So something like 'yes I was given it for free' (example) becomes much more personable and upbeat by putting 'yes I was given it for free!' It just makes it sound less monotone/grumpy. Fair enough if that's her style not to do it - but an observation.

If anyone follows mother of five boys she was tagging martinhal left, right and centre but they haven't been paid to ad by all accounts, I think that might have been a bit of a freebie push though! She seems very nice and perhaps a bit naive to it all though.

LastDrWho · 04/04/2018 10:34

DLAM also follows multimac already.... I wonder how many times she has to contractually mention them before she gets her £1.3k seat?!

kirinm · 04/04/2018 10:35

I'm assuming you're being deliberately obtuse Cady. She's being lent a top of the range car to advertise it. Quite simply it should be an AD. That you can defend the lack of honesty belittles your valid arguments. I work in a highly regulated profession. You don't get to pick and choose how you conduct yourself when there are rules and regulations to follow. It should be the same for advertising.

MadameGrizzly · 04/04/2018 10:37

@PavlovaPrincess Perhaps we are wrong and saying thanks in caps lock is enough disclosure? But best to be on the safe side and let the ASA decide.

Doctorbubbles · 04/04/2018 10:37

@Cady read back your post. What you have just described is an advert

CadyHeron · 04/04/2018 10:39

#reportlikeagoodcitizen - then you (general you) wonder why comments like "acting like the ad police" were mentioned earlier.
I wonder if you're this vigilant and eager to report with next door neighbours trying to earn a living. Or is that just saved for people you perceive to be rich (how you'd actually know if they were or not though is anybody's guess.)

PavlovaPrincess · 04/04/2018 10:40

@MadameGrizzly Grin Some people seem to think that's plenty.

MadameGrizzly · 04/04/2018 10:40

Meh. The ASA is there for a very good reason.

Anyone reporting isn't breaking the law!

Mumofkids · 04/04/2018 10:41

I'm amused that MP and MOFOD get a Renault and DLAM gets lent a mercedes! Is that her reach?cant say I've felt compelled to even look but maybe I'm more of a Renault target.
What car does she actually have to put a multimac in? Would actually be so funny if she didn't get one!

Doctorbubbles · 04/04/2018 10:42

Thing is my neighbours aren’t influencing thousands of people so the comparison doesn’t really work

MadameGrizzly · 04/04/2018 10:45

In order to 'earn a living' I have to comply with all legislation and respond to all correspondence. No one would accept me saying today 'I just didn't have the brain space. Perspective, hun! Perspective!'

PavlovaPrincess · 04/04/2018 10:45

@Mumofkids I have a feeling we'll find out if she does or not.

Because she'll be obliged very kindly say thank you on her feed while telling us all the wonderful features it has.

Mumofkids · 04/04/2018 10:46

My neighbours are all retired sadly so I can't report any of them. Although one is disabled maybe I should have a closer look at them.
(Joke obviously... they are retired)

kirinm · 04/04/2018 10:46

In my profession, it's each individual and company's responsibility to report breaches whether those breaches are a genuine mistake or deliberate. That's to try and ensure the industry maintains integrity since we are meant to be trusted by the public. Why should it be any different for advertising?

CadyHeron · 04/04/2018 10:51

mumofkids if they weren't retired, would you be wanting to report them too,or at least look at them more closely to make sure they actually were disabled enough to be claiming anything?
Same argument as "they don't need a freebie, it's grabby" - because you (general you) think they earn enough and have enough money for their own.
Assumptions.
Interesting how you say it's a joke obviously though. Different for if it's people you know and can relate to,maybe.

InternetSchminternet · 04/04/2018 10:51

I don't follow DLAM either but just went to look at her latest Mercedes post. So cringey I was biting my fist for her. She seems to have ignored comments about big enough cars to fit three car seats but someone suggests this £££ car seat and she is all over it! It's really something else

kirinm · 04/04/2018 10:54

Evidently Cady doesn't give a shit about regulated industries / professions. Presumably that lack of interest stretches to nursing / medicine / financial services / law. Let's all have a free for all.

InternetSchminternet · 04/04/2018 10:54

CadyHeron I think the difference here is that DLAM, etc. are so in your face about it, it's difficult to ignore. Especially when it's so prolific. If my neighbour was this obnoxious, driving a flashy new car, installing a hot tub, wearing expensive clothes and bags, which they hadn't paid for, then came over to my house and showed them to me and suggested I might like to have a look at the retailers website, oh and it will result in a % if any sale in the next 30 days lining their pockets then I think I'd be taking more notice
