To toast my hot cross buns?

I know it's a day late but I'm having an ongoing debate with my mum who insists you never toast a hot cross bun, whereas I think you do. Who's right?

Hot or cold they have to be with cheese.

With bacon sounds so wrong it could be right though.

dementedma · 31/03/2018 17:44

I thought they were MEANT to be toasted. Genuinely surprised to read that people eat them untoasted. Every day a school day...

eurochick · 31/03/2018 18:00

Toasted with butter here. Sometimes add jam too. Mmmmm.

GrooovyLass · 31/03/2018 18:31

Clue is in the word hot surely?

They are Jesus's teacakes and Jesus will be sad if you eat them untoasted.

YourWanMajella · 31/03/2018 19:03

Eggsellent point. They arent COLD cross buns are they?

boomboom1234 · 31/03/2018 19:04

Toast and lots of butter. No debate.

elspinsdemariscal · 31/03/2018 19:05

I've never had one!

CoffeenoTea · 31/03/2018 19:19

"hot cross buns" are only hot if you toast them, otherwise they are cross buns. nobody wants a cross bunWink

treaclesoda · 31/03/2018 19:20

I've never tasted one that wasn't toasted. It has never occurred to me. Like a teacake. Or Veda.

CCMcGarry · 31/03/2018 19:49

Don't even know why this is an issue, toasted and buttered always!

LG93 · 31/03/2018 19:51

Toasted. With jam. The end! Grin

TroysMammy · 31/03/2018 19:54

Um, how you're supposed to eat them is obvious from what their called. A hot crossed bun is not meant to be cold. Your DM is bonkers.

Cutesbabasmummy · 31/03/2018 20:32

They are called hot because in the days of yore they would still be warm from the bakers when you got them home. NOT because they are meant to be toasted!

SnobblyBobbly · 31/03/2018 20:40

I’m in the toasted with butter camp!

Last week at work a lady was telling me a sad story about her elderly aunt, and how she doesn’t want to eat anything, so she explained how gave her half a hot cross bun with DAIRYLEA on it. The rest of the tragic story was lost on me, I couldn’t get past that detail.

BarbaraOcumbungles · 31/03/2018 20:48

Untoasted with butter and jam.

EmmaGrundyForPM · 31/03/2018 20:50

They are HOT cross buns.

And if you don't toast them, how does the butter melt???

Whatififall · 31/03/2018 20:52

Toasted.

Today at DF’s he was all excited as only him and I like them so he’d bought us some as a treat...except he then DIDN’T toast them.

I’ve gone no contact.

ShowOfHands · 31/03/2018 20:54

You toast them or you put them in hot cross buns and butter pudding.

You don't eat them untoasted unless you're some kind of filthy pervert.

RapunzelIsHere · 31/03/2018 20:56

Always toasted with margarine!

InternetSchminternet · 31/03/2018 20:57

YANBU. I have eaten them Untoasted but it's really best to go down the delayed gratification route and toast the little buggers

Freshprincess · 31/03/2018 21:00

Of course you toast them and have a artery hardening amount of butter on them.

Wtf is wrong with your mum? As soon as you've eaten all her hot cross buns, go NC with her.

abitoflight · 31/03/2018 21:00

DH has just read out instructions on them - it says grill or toast

kimanda · 31/03/2018 21:33

There is noWAY I would eat hot cross buns 'untoasted.'

Poshjock · 31/03/2018 21:41

Toasted and dripping in melty butter (decent stuff too) it's the only way!

TossDaily · 31/03/2018 21:46

I prefer them not toasted.

I had mine this morning split and with a banana mashed onto each half. It was gorgeous.

Toasting is only for the ones that have gone a bit stale not that they hang around for long enough for that to happen
