To toast my hot cross buns?

I know it's a day late but I'm having an ongoing debate with my mum who insists you never toast a hot cross bun, whereas I think you do. Who's right?

we are all about the options here.... but they key is to eat s many as possible as quickly as possible.

I made 12 big ones yesterday and have just eaten the last one. TOASTED with as PP have advised, more butter than ever thought possible.

I think I may have some shop ones in the freezer, I shall get dh to look.

honeyroar · 31/03/2018 13:22

Either way for me and I can happily eat a fresh one without butter!

My husband's work partner had never heard of toasting them until this year (he's 45!).

OliviaStabler · 31/03/2018 13:27

Of course they have to be toasted. Didn't think anyone ate them raw.

And yes, REAL butter! No marg etc.

DangerEgg · 31/03/2018 13:31

You can heat them in the oven too....

KickBishopBrennanUpTheArse · 31/03/2018 13:37

I grew up in a household where they were put in the microwave Shock for 30 seconds and then cut open and spread with flora.

The fucking microwave Envy

I'm surprised I wasn't removed for my own protection.

Toasted with butter every time here. In fact I'm going to have an extra fruity one right now.

Namechangemum100 · 31/03/2018 13:41

The clue is in the name HOT cross buns. Always toasted...I'm hungry now!

BakedBeans47 · 31/03/2018 13:42

I prefer them not toasted with butter.

OliviaStabler · 31/03/2018 13:58

I prefer them not toasted with butter

There may be a support group to help you with that Wink

BalloonFlowers · 31/03/2018 14:04

I'm living in a backward country who doesn't have supermarket hot cross buns. So I have to make them. Fresh from the oven, untoasted with butter.
Once cooled, split, toasted, and smothered in butter. I did refuse DS2s request to put marmite on them, but accepted DS1s request for lemon curd.....

MayFayner · 31/03/2018 14:08

They're hot cross buns because they were sold freshly baked, not because they're meant to be toasted. By all means toast them if you want though.

With nice ones I think it's a bit of a shame to toast when fresh. Supermarket ones, toast away.

agentdaisy · 31/03/2018 14:11

Personally I can't stand hot cross buns at all so they're best left in the shop.

My mum used to have hers toasted with loads of butter on. Homemade ones she'd have hot from the oven with butter on.

Dd likes them both toasted and untoasted with butter. She eats home made ones straight up whole they're still warm.

TigerTrumpet · 31/03/2018 14:18

How is this even a debate - toasted and oozing with melty butter all the way.

DH was brought up wrong and eats them untoasted, cold, unsliced and with butter spread on the underneath.

lostfrequencies · 31/03/2018 14:33

Definitely toast! With lots of butter 🤤

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 31/03/2018 14:41

Toasted , no butter (no butter on anything Envy

thetellingerror · 31/03/2018 14:47

I had one toasted this morning with bacon stuffed inside... mmm

DaisytheDaftDaffodil · 31/03/2018 14:48

Ooh I like them both ways but toasted is better. The butter melts yum yum yum.

MinisterforCheekyFuckery · 31/03/2018 14:49

I have always assumed everyone toasted them. They're meant to be toasted aren't they? Confused

lifechangesforever · 31/03/2018 15:07

Toasted!!!!

But DH eats his non-toasted with CHEESE! all his family does.

PerfectlySymmetricalButtocks · 31/03/2018 15:08

You have to. Easter Grin

Allthebestnamesareused · 31/03/2018 16:50

Heated in the oven and then cut open to butter them. Obviously.

BlueUggs · 31/03/2018 16:51

Toasted, and served with butter and cheese. don't knock it till you've tried it

Cutesbabasmummy · 31/03/2018 17:27

If they are fresh then not toasted with lots if butter. If not so fresh the toasted with lots of butter...mmmmm

knottybeams · 31/03/2018 17:29

Either works but made into marmalade sandwiches and constructed into a bread and butter pudding gets my vote.

Quickerthanavicar · 31/03/2018 17:32

Someone told me yesterday they eat HCB plain, no butter!!

Ariela · 31/03/2018 17:34

Proper bakery HCB, light and airy, toast well. Not supermarket batch cooked squishyness, which refuses to toast properly..
