Why are you SHOUTING cadyheron?

Because the post replying to me was "shouting" so took the same tone.
Will say it normally then for those posters who are talking normally and not shouting - why are you so invested? Is it like a self appointed Internet Police thing? Do you need a badge to join?

AdidasGirl · 28/03/2018 10:26

MP encourages us to ask questions.
She has been fantastic in her replies on here and the initial post she put up yesterday. There are also others who came on one of the initial threads about transparency and as such have changed their posting style. For that we applaud.Thats why we don't need to mention them anymore, because they listened l,reassessed and moved forward.
MOD was the first one to comment.Read what she said and maybe you will see why as she totally missed the point.
She was the first of the Instamums to reply,And as she hasn't been transparent in the past, was simply asked a few questions after she started replying.
From myself,if any of the other Instamums had posted what MOD did first, then I would of asked them the same.
I have never followed MOD.I only know of her as she pops up all the time as a suggested follow because I follow MP.
I would also suggest you read MP's reply to MOD in which she calls her out(so to speak)

PavlovaPrincess · 28/03/2018 10:26

@CadyHeron I might ask you the same thing. Why are so invested in defending them and shrugging their shoulders and saying that they can do and act as they please?

As @Fruitbowl2 has linked to numerous times, there are clear guidelines and laws surrounding advertising that they are just not following. And Biro wrote some brilliant posts in the last thread as to why this does matter and why 'just unfollow' is not the answer.

WipsGlitter · 28/03/2018 10:27

I do think this is all getting a bit one sided against MOD. There are lots of others in the same boat as her.

I noticed an insta fail on DMBL this morning - she posted herself telling the same anecdote twice. This is where it loses authenticity.

Who all are with Gleam?

HeyRoly · 28/03/2018 10:27

Oh sorry, it wasn't Festivecheeseandcrackers I was agreeing with, it was PavlovaPrincess. I got confused by who was quoting who.

PavlovaPrincess · 28/03/2018 10:27

*shrugging your shoulders

Festivecheeseandcrackers · 28/03/2018 10:28

Ah yes the lists, of course. A riveting read I’m sure!

This is a little harsh. There’s a sort of snide undertone to the comment (sorry if you didn’t intend it) and it’s a shame. There’s nothing wrong with people having ideas and the ambition to try and pursue them. Not all of them may work out but good for her for trying. I presume her blog gets a fair few reads for her to put it forward as a book suggestion, if indeed she did.

Part of the reason I didn’t continue blogging when I tried my hand at it was because of the fear of snide comments which really got my anxiety up.

Fruitbowl2 · 28/03/2018 10:29

Sorry cadyheron I didn't see the caps above yours. This is a discussion forum. We are discussing. Is that ok?

Mumofkids · 28/03/2018 10:31

In most areas where people a quite fame there is regulation whether it's legal or by general expectation or employer/agent. A pop star who has a huge following and gets caught doing drugs or misbehaving has some comeback due to how they young fan base may react, a tv star is expected to uphold the reputation of the company, I'm aware these examples are not particularly relevant to the child use/ad discussion but the general point is regulation. There is none on Instagram. These people have the tag 'influencer' or 'social influencer' but they appear to have absolutely no responsibility for this role. Yet by the very nature of what they do they are 'influencing' people. If there was some Z lister off a soap bragging about freebie holidays and bags it would be seen as gross and really trashy but because these white middle class mothers do it, and they have this bizarre fan base that are protective, it's not seen as tasteless.

Fruitbowl2 · 28/03/2018 10:32

You have to be prepared for criticism if you put yourself out there. Doesn't everyone on here with a job have an appraisal? Not everybody who has a blog is publishable. Most of them have great editors because they are not natural writers.

ImTheMary · 28/03/2018 10:32

And as followers if you are gullible/weak easily swayed enough to buy into the consumerism that is beyond your means then fool on you.

The ASA disagrees with you. It shouldn't be about whether you're "gullible/weak" (vulnerable) - ads should be clear and transparent so whether or not you're sucked into buying something you don't need/can't afford doesn't boil down to how savvy you are

CadyHeron · 28/03/2018 10:33

I do think this is all getting a bit one sided against MOD. There are lots of others in the same boat as her.

Exactly. Someone posted saying she said she felt "personally attacked" (their quotation marks)
I'm not surprised. As pp said, there'll be others out there who do. Why the obsessive watching of her account and questioning?
It no doubt will feel like a personal attack.

LastDrWho · 28/03/2018 10:34

DLAM asked for recommendations on car seats the other day/ specifically how to fit 3 into the car once the new baby arrives. The cynic in me is waiting for her to be #gifted a multimac as others have.... I hope I'm wrong as genuinely like following her but it felt icky!

ElizabethLemon · 28/03/2018 10:36

You’re right it is harsh, festive. However I have read a few of those blog posts and don’t believe they are worthy of a published book. And I don’t like the premise that you are handed a book deal on a plate because you’re good at flogging babygrows to women on instagram.

You are right though, it is hard work to write a book and I’m not saying CT or MOD or whoever shouldn’t be proud of themselves, I’m just saying it’s not something I would choose to read.

Mumofkids · 28/03/2018 10:37

I would imagine DLAM follows unmumsy and Telford and is well aware how you fit 3 car seats in one car 🤣
What on earth is CT writing a book about. Will the books never end 😴 It actually takes away from people who genuinely write.

Mumofkids · 28/03/2018 10:40

And with the market being over saturated with influencers books how successful will they be. I'm sure some of them are very good but if everyone you follow writes a book is it not just overkill.

Fruitbowl2 · 28/03/2018 10:42

That's true ELemon, the book deals came from blogging/IGing. They were approached because of their saleability, not their writing skills.

Fruitbowl2 · 28/03/2018 10:43

(MP might be the exception to that - she's clearly a skilled copywriter).

Mumofkids · 28/03/2018 10:43

If MOD feels things are personal and an attack, then a) she has to decide is it just a business and grow a thicker skin or b) is it going to be really her-in which case be a bit more careful in how she answers things and more respectful to those who essentially provide her with the privilege she has.

Okaynowimconfused · 28/03/2018 10:44

Who is DLAM please?

Fruitbowl2 · 28/03/2018 10:47

Dress Like a Mum

Okaynowimconfused · 28/03/2018 10:49

Thanks

blackmirror1 · 28/03/2018 10:50

Can see why MOD feels 'attacked' because her name is mentioned a lot but I can't think of anyone else with that profile who is winding people up so much -

Not declaring gifts
Not clearly marking things with ad
Umpteenth luxury holiday (with plenty of comments about how she deserves it from adoring sycophants)
Using kids to sell
Having now no discernible USP
Calling people with feedback trolls and haters
Not answering legetimate questions
Massively missing point
Blocking people who question about the above

Softkitty2 · 28/03/2018 10:50

I specifically didn't include race in my post in relation to the background of successful instagrammers because I totally agree that diversity is an issue.

Well if the ASA has posted guidelines and it is being ignored then they need to regulate vigorously and impose fines.

But I stand by what I said that no one should hide or have to stifle where they have come from whether that being priviledge or not

PavlovaPrincess · 28/03/2018 10:52

Nope, I think you can be sure that that's a blag. And DLAM is one of the worst for transparency, even though I'm sure that she's been reading these threads along with the others.
