Faceandpalm how on earth would you know how much any of the instagrammers earn?!

Stellastartsitall · 30/03/2018 10:58

People will recognise them and know their full name, birthday and sometimes where they live and which school they go to.

I'd find that really worrying and quite scary.

That's cool Sofia. I don't need you to like me. I don't have anything to sell you.

@Sofialemon most of the child safety issues were highlighted on the first thread.

@Sofialemon It’s all publicly available on Companies House. You do know that some Instamums are registered as Limited Companies!?

Looking up public information isn't stalking BTW. So don't try to go back to that argument.

Many of the most popular (in terms of followers) instagrammers seemed to be fairly well off before they started using insta as a business. DMBL40, CLTS, amothersedit and others. I assume their husbands are higher earners and that they had their own careers before children (or doing insta full time).

I doubt some of them earn as much as as a lot of you seem to think. A lot of stuff they have will have been gifted, lucky them.

@Stellastartsitall Thanks for that :) I have a professional interest in social media advertising and influencers, that’s all.

Exactly CadyHeron

This feed is just one massive bitch fest bringing people down.. for what reason?

You don't have to follow these people

You don't have to have social media.

How do you people find the time to become the 'ad' police and start trailing through posts establishing who is real and who is not. You are in control of who you follow on instagram. If they both you that much why not block them yourselves rather than fret that they've blocked you for writing negative comments and ad-patrol on their posts!?

My mind is truly boggled as to what is trying to be achieved here? Instagram can manage the rules all by themselves about what should be labelled as an Ad and what shouldn't. These 'insta-mum's' are real people, they do buy products with their own money too, that they love and want to share with their followship, believe it huns, THEY'RE NOT AD MAKING ROBOTS.

It's a fact of life that you need to take social media, namely instagram with a pinch of salt. Yes there are staged photos yes everything is wonderful but that's because Mums like you and I probably don't want to scroll through pictures of baby poo explosions and images of people's living rooms turned upside down. Maybe just reconsider who you follow because I'm sure there's people on there posting the mundane moany crap you're so dying to see!

Get a grip!

@Sofialemon No, these Limited Companies are often named after their Instagram accounts. They’re doing brilliantly!

Thanks glad you could get that off your chest

Wow, this level of obsession kind of is the definition of stalking. Obsessively following, commenting, looking up information - some on here are really over invested and bordering (or over the line) of obsessed with them.
Not healthy.

It's just scary re: child protection issues (that are being completely ignored!!!!! Who even does that???!!!).

I've just googled the name of one of the SM families mentioned in this thread.

Company House shows them to be registered as:
insert name of SM personality Limited.

Husband and wife are listed as directors and their address is there for the world to see!!!!!!......as is online instastories/vlogs/youtube of their children in the bath naked, children setting off to their school, children going to the local activities. How can ANYONE ignore the child protection issues here?!!!

Huge thanks to SofiaLemon and that Kat Bees Knees woman on Instagram for demonstrating perfectly the exact attitudes the majority of contributors to this thread and the MP post in IG have an issue with.

"Children's privacy?! Why do they need privacy anyway?!"
"Who cares if people don't always comply with the ASA guidelines?! There is war and famine in the world"
"You come across as a bitch"

The last 2 hours or so of this thread have highlighted that there really are people who don't give a shit about anything that they personally don't benefit from - following guidelines, regulating how people are exploiting their kids. I just cannot fathom how some people openly don't care. They're either deliberately being obnoxious, it's going over their head or they have no place on instagram.

I have no idea which "instamums" are registered as companies and tbh I don't care. I know many of them are managed by the likes of Gleam, so what.

Re the child protection I'm not sure what difference it makes if people know their kids names, where they live etc. Many people know my kids names, where we live etc, not all of these people are my friends or family, obviously not on the same scale as for example MOD but what exactly do you think is going to happen?

What is the difference between parents letting their children be professional models with an agency to the instamuns posting pics of their kids with a #ad next dress or whatever?

I'm pretty sure we've never seen an IG post, instastory or youtube vlog about doing their annual accounts!!!!!!

The lack of transparency is infuriating.

And if one more fcking person says "if you don't like having advertising shoved down your necks without it being properly labelled on social media then perhaps it isn't for you" I will scream.

It's not up to people to limit the way they use free and open social media platforms - it's up to the people making cold hard cash out of it to make sure they're properly following f
cking guidelines.

It's. Not. Hard.

All the ‘why are you moaning’ posts seem a bit silly. We’re not moaning on Instagram - we’re having a constructive debate here on Mumsnet. Maybe if you don’t like the moaning on Mumsnet you should hop over to Instagram.

I love a bit of moaning. I’m not that into fawning over Instagram accounts. Each to their own!

Again, I directly ask KitKat to address these child protection issues.

All SM "personalities" who feature their children in brand endorsement/advertising are welcomed and encouraged to contribute to the discussion.

cady - you are grossly naïve.

I posted on the first thread to say that I also think there are serious child safety issues here. The amount of information in the public domain create a definite and substantial risk. Is it going to take a serious case review post a child being injured or (God forbid) worse before this is taken seriously?

I also exit the there will be litigation in the future regarding the earning that can be properly apportioned to the children (a lot) featuring in these accounts.

Child models and actors have lots of laws protecting them from exploitation.
