Seeing as the original 3 got zapped.

Just reading some of the replies. MOD misses the point time and again and comes across as a spoilt, petulant child. I think maybe it is just who she is. And she just won't get it.

AdidasGirl · 28/03/2018 10:02

New Mothers can as easily get sucked in by Instamums, In the same way that teenagers get sucked into buying Love Island or Geordie Shore cast members dresses from MissPap.
You only have to see what's been in the news the last few weeks regarding Z Listers and their amazing Weight loss videos.
Making out they lost 6 stone from doing 30 mins of exercise 3 times a week and eating a balanced diet.
The reality being that they have been living on dust, attending hardcore bootcamps overseas and downing diet pills.Confused

Stellastartsitall · 28/03/2018 10:03

@softkitty
And as followers if you are gullible/weak easily swayed enough to buy into the consumerism that is beyond your means then fool on you.

But this is their target. To milk the vulnerable ones.

PavlovaPrincess · 28/03/2018 10:06

Not sure how you can say their background is irrelevant.

If MoD was really Tracey from Barnsley, a single parent to 4 kids, living on tax credits in the middle of a council estate, I highly doubt she'd have been offered all these aspirational holidays even if 'Tracey' had the same amount of followers.

mammyoftwo · 28/03/2018 10:10

What about Katie&baby?

Softkitty2 · 28/03/2018 10:10

I agree that social media is all about marketing and consumerism which is out of control! However, I think it's incredibly scathing to think that these people are out to target the vulnerable

Fruitbowl2 · 28/03/2018 10:11

Are we allowed to mention looks? They are all attractive and so are their kids. Insta ain't for the ugs, even if they are being 'body positive' at size 12 🙄, which by the way was first sponsored by Dove.

CadyHeron · 28/03/2018 10:13

MOD is willfully opening herself up to attacks by accepting so, so many luxury perks. Of course peoples' hackles will be up. She could, of course, pay for them herself or not post pictures. She has options. She wants to have her cake and eat it too, and people are getting fed up of having cake shoved in their faces.

How do you know she isn't? Some things will be gifted, some quite easily could be paid for themselves.

MOD refused to answer the question "Can you hand on heart say that you have been 100% transparent with every post this year?"
I don't particularly know this blog/IG well. but why should she have to answer to lots of (very, very!) over invested strangers (3 threads? really?)

She does however feel "Personally attacked"
I'm not surprised!

Why do people keep reading (people on general on this thread) if they don't like them?
It's like repeatedly whacking yourself over the head with a book and saying you have an headache. (Read that somewhere, relevant for this thread I think! Smile )

ElizabethLemon · 28/03/2018 10:14

Wow I wonder what CT’s book was going to be about 😐.

I think MOD is a lost cause to be honest, I actually felt a bit embarrassed for her when reading her replies to MP’s post.

Asha has made some really insightful posts about the instamum phenomenon. It’s interesting to read about it from the perspective of someone who has been there and been sucked in by all the crap. Good for her, I really wish her all the best with her recovery.

Fruitbowl2 · 28/03/2018 10:14

They may not be soft kitty but their sponsors are. Do you think visit Florida give a shit if someone gets a loan they can't pay off because the poor sucker feels bad they can't afford to give their child a 'magical' holiday. The instamums do have to give that a thought, don't they??

Softkitty2 · 28/03/2018 10:15

pavlova tracey from barnsley is hypothetical though.

However, I would genuinely be interested to see a real life tracey from barnsley with the same following and social media presence so we can compare the two

PavlovaPrincess · 28/03/2018 10:15

However, I think it's incredibly scathing to think that these people are out to target the vulnerable

I think you're also deliberately missing the points being made here. Nobody has said that MOD and the rest are the deliberately targeting vulnerable people.

It probably hasn't even crossed their minds that it might though. And that's where the problem lies.

Festivecheeseandcrackers · 28/03/2018 10:15

Perhaps irrelevant isn’t accurate. I think it’s more accurate to say people shouldn’t be criticised for coming from a background that society classes as ‘successful’, anymore than someone should be criticised for coming from a background that society doesn’t see as successful.

Fruitbowl2 · 28/03/2018 10:16

Lists, I imagine ELemon. Publishers prefer sentences and paragraphs 😏

PavlovaPrincess · 28/03/2018 10:16

How do you know she isn't? Some things will be gifted, some quite easily could be paid for themselves.

SO SHE NEEDS TO CLEARLY MARK THEM AS SUCH!

It's like repeatedly whacking yourself over the head with a book and saying you have an headache

Isn't it just? Hmm

Softkitty2 · 28/03/2018 10:17

fruitbowl possibly yes. But isn't that marketing in general though, whether it be on social media or otherwise?

Mumofkids · 28/03/2018 10:17

@fruitbowl2 this isn't about looks, but it's a valid point. The parents have confidence (and this is part of attractiveness) actually some of these children to me are not stereotypically beautiful and have a shyness or awkwardness, this is in relation to a point I made earlier, what if the children you are using are not blessed with the parents confidence and receive negative, unwanted attention.
Generally all small children are cute, but when you hit stages of development it can be tricky and not everyone copes the same. We see the whole package as gorgeous. But many of these kids are just normal looking kids.

HeyRoly · 28/03/2018 10:18

Oh, I think the "class" issue is absolutely relevant. It's no coincidence that the most famous Instamums are white and middle class (and sometimes from wealthy backgrounds, privately educated, "posh"). Why is that?

Well, my dad once told me that money goes to money and he's right.

IMO being a white, middle class (and possibly privately educated) Instamum means certain opportunities just fall into your lap compared with working class or black or Asian Instamums. Possibly, just possibly, it's because the equally white and middle class people working in PR for brands who dole out freebies feel drawn to you and can relate to you and feel that you are marketable and relatable compared with working class/Black/Asian people who are, I dunno, considered a bit "niche" in comparison?

I also suspect the "small brands" who do childrenswear freebies, etc (Scamp & Dude or Rascal & Imp or Monkey & Scallywag - whatever they're called Grin) are made by white middle class women FOR white middle class women. Because what other demographic can even afford that stuff? And so they seek out the Instamums whose faces fit and send them #gifts and the cycle continues...

CadyHeron · 28/03/2018 10:19

SO SHE NEEDS TO CLEARLY MARK THEM AS SUCH!

WHY ARE YOU SO INVESTED? IS IT LIKE A SELF APPOINTED INTERNET POLICE THING? DO WE NEED A BADGE TO JOIN?

HeyRoly · 28/03/2018 10:19

I see Festivecheeseandcrackers has got there before me!

Fruitbowl2 · 28/03/2018 10:19

Cadyheron Biro answered your question in the last thread. Have a look.

Fruitbowl2 · 28/03/2018 10:20

Why are you SHOUTING cadyheron?

ElizabethLemon · 28/03/2018 10:22

Ah yes the lists, of course. A riveting read I’m sure!

Festivecheeseandcrackers · 28/03/2018 10:24

Sorry my last post was unclear because my quoting went wrong. 🙈 I hope it made sense.

Fruitbowl2 · 28/03/2018 10:24

Argument going on full circle her, I think. Soft kitty, that's the point - other advertising is heavily regulated. The ASA need to get their arses in gear and IGers need to be transparent and abide by the current ASA rules.
