To ask how many bras you wear in a week?

Please help settle an argument? My 13 yr old has just asked me for more bras, she has 6 (plus a sports bra) so 7, and likes to change them and wash them after each wear. I think this is utterly ridiculous, I change mine every 2/3 days, she thinks i’m minging.

To complicate it she’s a small back but already in an F cup so it’s quite difficult and expensive to get a bra for her. So just wondering what everyone else does?

I wear 1 for 2 days in the winter but change twice a day in the summer. It was more often during pregnancy. Pants are a completely different thing (change twice a day) as they are up against a body part that excretes bodily fluids.
But then again I don't wear a bra from the minute I get up 2 the minute I go to sleep. Probably 8am until 4pm.

I usually have 4 bras (2 black, 1 beige and 1 nice coloured for those days I want to feel a bit better about myself).
However, Even if she doesn't want to wear the same 1 twice she doesn't need any more bras and at that age is perfectly capable of washing them herself. At the moment I have just 1 bra (stupid wires) and I somehow manage to wash and dry it in plenty of time for the next wear.
It isn't minging but I do find people who only chance their pants once a day more than minging.

Every 2-3 days. I’m pregnant at the moment and I have just 2 bras that fit so I wear them on rotation - wash one while I wear the other! It’s been fine!

JaceLancs · 24/03/2018 17:41

I wear mine for 2 days before washing but not continuously so wear bra a on day one, then bra b day 2, bra c day 3, bra d day 4 on day 5 go back to bra a,
I wash clothing on average once a week, so wash 3-4 bras each time
I only possess 5 bras at £35 minimum from bravissimo I can’t afford more!

JaceLancs · 24/03/2018 17:42

Forgot to add if I’ve been to gym that’s a one wear bra!

PennyPIckle · 24/03/2018 17:42

Also remember your daughter is a teenager & likely to be more active than you and she will also be very conscious of her body & how she looks & smells. Buy her some more bras.

If that’s aimed at me my daughter has many bras in many different colours thank you!

On her gym/sports days I will happily wash her bra after one wear. I see no need to wash her day to day bras after one wear when the sniff test still smells of washing powder after after one wear!

When my daughter lives in uni accommodation and expects her bras to washed daily she is welcome to wash them herself. Until then if there is no need to wash them I won’t. Knickers and socks are washed every day btw...

ChristmasFluff · 24/03/2018 17:42

I have loads and loads of bras, I change them every day to match my pants. But I only wash them when they look dirty (usually deodorant marks). How minging is that!!!!

Bluntness100 · 24/03/2018 17:56

13 year old girls are usually going through puberty and can get a little sweaty. Please don't encourage her to change her underwear less. She must do what she feels comfortable with, if she wants to put a clean one on, she should do. Many of us do. We all have our own hygiene standards and yours are less than hers.

As for wanting another one, she's also probably relatively new to wearing them, so maybe still a bit of a novelty, she's only 13.

To be honest, my daughter never had to ask me, I'd ask her. She had a ton of bras at that age and I can't imagine denying her underwear if she asked unless significant financial problems. Otherwise, I'd never consider arguing with my daughter that she could have a new bra.

eurochick · 24/03/2018 18:01

I change every day, like socks, pants and t shirts - anything that's straight onto the shin around the sweaty bits basically.

Jon66 · 24/03/2018 18:04

I wear one at a time.

Nuffaluff · 24/03/2018 18:06

I always wear matching bra and pants so every day, same as the pants

MushroomSoup · 24/03/2018 18:22

@Cambionome
I use this scent - Lacey. It cost £15 for 375ml which I thought was scandalous! However I’d just spent £150 on bras (lots of DDs!) and wanted to make them last.

I’ve used it three times a week for about 6 months now and I’m half way through.

SkaPunkPrincess · 24/03/2018 19:20

When they start to smell.

Katescurios · 24/03/2018 19:29

Good housekeeping say wash after 3 or 4 wears. Marie clare, persil, readers digest..... They all agree that several wears before washing is recommended. I think daily wash is a mumsnet thing.

diddl · 24/03/2018 19:33

I probably used to wear a bra for 3/4 days-but post menopause...

LeighaJ · 24/03/2018 19:39

Before I was pregnant I probably rotated 3 or 4 bras a week, owned about 10 regular overall plus 2 sports bras.

At 36 weeks knocked up I only have one bra that fits, I don't move around enough to get it very dirty and my body is clean so meh whatev.

I figured I'd reassess my bra needs once I've given birth since I'm not sure where I'll be bra size wise and it's not easy as is to find the sizes I've needed in pregnancy.

I could understand your daughter maybe wanting a second sports bra but don't see the need for more normal ones. Sounds like she just has a case of the wants.

bananafish81 · 24/03/2018 19:56

I don't buy Rigby & Peller price lingerie, but the Panache and Calvin Klein bras I wear from Figleaves are around the £40 mark, so not cheap (plus a couple of Uniqlo ones for about £20)

I know washing bras in the machine is supposed to destroy them, but I seem to have managed to get away with it, as I bung mine in a 30 wash in a net bag, and they seem to survive!

They're not silk or lace though (and are non wired - although I have washed underwired bras in the machine too and been fine) which might be a factor?

Sophiecatteacher · 24/03/2018 19:57

A new one everyday.

chocolatesun · 24/03/2018 19:58

Yikes I wear mine for ages! 😬

Sandsnake · 24/03/2018 20:05

One a week, sometimes I wear them for longer. I’m minging but honest!Grin

Brakebackcyclebot · 24/03/2018 20:09

I am disgusting clearly. I own 3 and wash them once in a while.

Ansumpasty · 24/03/2018 20:12

I wear the same one every day and wash about once a month. I realise that’s gross but it’s the perfect bra and I have small boobs that don’t sweat, etc. I can see why people would think I’m gross though!

RadioGaGoo · 24/03/2018 20:16

Oh come on Stripy Deckchair, you sometimes wear three bras in one day? Bit extreme that.

hungryhippo90 · 24/03/2018 20:21

Hmm, if your DD is going through puberty she’s going to need to change her bra more often than us adults.

I’ve found that when the kids are going through puberty there’s a smell you just can’t get rid of! No matter how much they shower! So she should be changing bras once a day, if not more on PE days.

Curiousaboutchoices · 24/03/2018 20:25

I’m bemused that people don’t change their underwear daily as a matter of course! I only have about 7/8 because they are so bloody expensive but they are washed after each wear.

Curiousaboutchoices · 24/03/2018 20:27

And yes, even more important in pubescent years, but she sounds like she just needs them washed rather than needing more. Unless she’s grown of course.

Is it a fashion thing? In which case I’d deal in the same way as new tops/clothes and give an allowance to include that too.
