They most likely just got backed into a corner and had to announce it as the papers were sniffing about again. They would have to announce it at some point-it's their news and up to them.

I think becoming a parent for either one of them would threaten their popularity anyway - surely their appeal is accessibility, could be your mate/ boyfriend/ mates brother etc. Marriage and hanging out as a four is one thing but I think parenthood will change their image a bit.
