What a stupid boy. Worth 60 million and doesn’t get a taxi. I just don’t know how he’ll come back from this latest fiasco (drink drive car crash hits 3 year old).

It's admitting the addiction that's the hard part. My sil never did admit her problems - she was in denial for years.
Putting others at risk is unforgivable though. That's the bit I struggle with here. Someone could have been killed. It doesn't bear thinking about.

SharronNeedles · 21/03/2018 19:53

I'm so incredibly disappointed. This isn't the ending they deserved. Even if they do make a come back in a year or so, it'll always be bitter sweet.
Such a shame!

BennyTheBall · 21/03/2018 20:00

I am gutted tbh.

I really hope they can come back from this.

ferriswheel · 21/03/2018 20:07

I really feel like that too. Am quite alarmed at how much it has affected me tbh.

If it had been any other celebrity id be most indignified by their bad behaviour but i kind of feel like Ant has had enough.

I hope this kickstarts a new beginning for him.

And, Thank God no one was hurt.

StealthPolarBear · 21/03/2018 20:09

So far as we know

84CharingCrossRoad · 21/03/2018 20:14

Wonder if he will employ that lawyer that's gets people off driving convictions. Can't remember his name Nick something possibly???

YearOfYouRemember · 21/03/2018 20:19

I'm sure if anyone had been hurt in this crash we'd know by now.

Belindabelle · 21/03/2018 20:19

Nick Freeman is the lawyer celebs use to get them off speeding fines. Drink driving has no defence.

StealthPolarBear · 21/03/2018 20:19

Not necessarily I suppose. Peoplea health and hospital information is confidential

We love Ant and Dec in our house - to me they are synonymous with the family sitting down and all enjoying something together. When ours were very small, we used to have a bit of a do for the last night of Britain's Got Talent with a few friends and their children. We'd have a little sweepstake and each child would be excitably cheering on their act. Really fond memories. I feel like I have grown up with them (although I am 5 years older) and to our children, they are like our Morecambe and Wise or.. (can't think of any others). There are so few family entertainers now.

I was particularly struck by my youngest son's reaction. He is gutted too.

I am not a fan of sticking the boot in, like so many on here. It's possible to hate his actions yet wish him well for a recovery. I hope this is his rock bottom and we see him on TV again with Dec.

ferriswheel · 21/03/2018 20:42

BennytheBall

Yes. Exactly that.

I hope that he reads your post.

Omg. Your post has nearly made me cry.

ferriswheel · 21/03/2018 20:44

Benny

Ive found your post stragely kathartic.

ferriswheel · 21/03/2018 21:16

Does anyone know about the America thing?

Does his charge mean that he cant ever set foot in America again?

Quartz2208 · 21/03/2018 21:24

No it looks like a single DUI charge is not grounds for not being able to enter the US

HelenaDove · 21/03/2018 21:28

They are going for the mean wife angle are they?

The celeb world misogynistic?!

Well whod have thunk it!

ferriswheel · 21/03/2018 21:31

Ive never taken any of the divorce-stress comments as a reflection on his wife.

Believe me divorce is really fkn stressful for everyone.

Frankfurt17 · 21/03/2018 21:32

I think he will be able to recover from this. It's probably the rock bottom he needed to take his addictions seriously and take time out to treat them properly.

Unfinishedkitchen · 21/03/2018 21:34

People are actually crying over a drunk drivers career because he was on the telly?! Are you kidding me or is this the Twilight Zone??

No wonder some celebs walk around like gods. There are always some easily pleased fans ready to forgive and excuse them over anything. The victims will probably be blamed next for getting in the way. Trump was right, he could shoot a baby onstage and there would still be people ready to vote for him.....Hopefully it’s not one of you lot he crashes into next time.

AlistairAppletonssexyscarf · 21/03/2018 21:36

Maybe people are sad because they liked Ant and their kids like Ant and they wish that he hadn't ended up a drink driving addict. You can feel sad about someone's life, and feel the impact they made on your own, without excusing bad behaviour.

Masterbuilders · 21/03/2018 21:37

He will recover because money talks. He has a multi million pound fortune, the best PR money can buy and of course no end of people willing to lap up whatever persona the media spin next.

If it had been alcoholic John from next door who’d smashed their car up, or resulted in the hospitalisation of a child. Then I very much doubt people would be so quick to excuse him. Then yeah, he wouldn’t recover. In real life, people can lose jobs for a DUI, lose friends, family.

If you have a full blown PR machine then you can literally buy people’s opinions. It’s scary and it’s shocking how ingrained celeb culture is.

FloorLamp · 21/03/2018 21:37

He will be gone for at least a year... Enough that they hope the public will forgive and forget.

Then the interviews will come...poor addicted Ant.

The guy is a dick. Might be nice and funny on screen but off screen he's a dick.

Really hope Dec can make it alone.

ferriswheel · 21/03/2018 21:40

Unfinished

He has behaved very badly.
I just see so many parallels in my own divorce and it makes me feel sad.

CuboidalSlipshoddy · 21/03/2018 21:45

No it looks like a single DUI charge is not grounds for not being able to enter the US

Correct. It will make it much harder to get a work permit, however, for the next few years. He can go there on holiday, and probably on business for a uk employer, but if he wanted to go a James Condon and work for a US network it can be problematic.

FlashTheSloth · 21/03/2018 21:51

The footballer Luke McCormick killed 2 children driving whilst drunk (actually speeding on the motorway driving whilst drunk), went to prison, came out and resumed his football career. I doubt this means the end of Ant and Dec's career.

HelenaDove · 21/03/2018 21:55

"It’s scary and it’s shocking how ingrained celeb culture is"

And even scarier.............there seems to be no going back from this.
