What a stupid boy. Worth 60 million and doesn’t get a taxi. I just don’t know how he’ll come back from this latest fiasco (drink drive car crash hits 3 year old).

They will be back in the summer with BGS. They would have to kill kittens on air for the public to dislike them.

Storm in a tea cup if Ant gets sorted. If not This is last chance saloon.

sobering (and mundane) stuff indeed.

Somewhere in the house I have a copy of You Want, You'd Settle For, You Get. In that spirit:

You want to be James Dean
You'd settle for being Marc Bolan
You are Ant McPartlin

A close family member used to work in a high profile rehab clinic. She bumped into wide ranging high profile people, their dcs, siblings etc on a daily basis. Often the issues affected family members who felt like underachievers and got into addictive behaviours as a response.

It was enough to disabuse her of any notion that fame might be something to aspire to.

AlmostDoneWithThis · 20/03/2018 07:33

To those worrying about the "poor 3 yo." I really wouldn't lose any sleep. For one thing, the child is fine, and secondly, the family has just had all their Christmases come at once. They're likely to have hit the jackpot, financially.

BishopBrennansArse · 20/03/2018 07:39

Oh really? How so?
They've had it publicly announced in the press that no one was harmed. So they can't claim for injury.

Other than claiming for the damage to their car (which looks a write off) and for associated losses as a result of the accident (they're restaurant owners - on the way to work when the accident happened so that might have meant a loss of trade) what else will they be 'cashing in' on over and above what anyone involved in a crash like this is entitled to do?

BishopBrennansArse · 20/03/2018 07:41

Nasty, nasty assumption for that poor family who through no fault of their own encounters a drunk driver. Don't care who he is, I wouldn't wish that on anyone.

Sparklingbrook · 20/03/2018 07:41

I imagine there would be a bit of a queue for magazine and TV interviews?

BishopBrennansArse · 20/03/2018 07:41

Lol. They always avoid paying. I've done press before for disability charities and not got a penny. Didn't expect anything, though.

Sparklingbrook · 20/03/2018 07:43

Do they? I don't have any insider knowledge but I would imagine magazines pay for stories. Lol.

It's all conjecture though. Maybe the family won't be interested in telling the story anyway.

We don't know.

BishopBrennansArse · 20/03/2018 07:45

It's just really unpleasant the assumption that the poor family involved in this will turn it into a kerching moment.

IanRushesInadequateFlushes · 20/03/2018 07:49

The father, who was driving, says in this morning's papers that ant was driving like a maniac and estimates he came round that corner on the wrong side of the road at "50-60mph". Even if you're teetotal with not a drop of alcohol in your system, that's insane in a highly built-up residential area.

I suppose it depends if you think money makes up for everything or not really, Almost. And if there are no injuries for money to make worthwhile, where are all these Christmas presents coming from? Ant's insurance will repair the car and a paper or two might pay them for a story but once it's been published, that'll be the end of that.

Snowjoker · 20/03/2018 08:12

almostdonewiththis I assume you aren’t a parent, or at least one who’s never been involved in any accident.
Dh was rear ended with our 3 year old in the car. He still says the seconds between stopping and turning round to see if ds was alive and ok were the worst of his life. As an 11 year old ds still remembers the accident. And this really was as minor as it comes.

bastardkitty · 20/03/2018 08:16

Project all you want about poor little boy Ant who made a ickle mistake, but please @AlmostDoneWithThis curtail your bile about the family who were the victims of this crime. You are making yourself look deranged.

Bundlesmads · 20/03/2018 08:19

Ian and on an icy day.

Bundlesmads · 20/03/2018 08:19

And I don’t think this family need a ‘kerching’ moment. They seem to be quite wealthy.

ilovegin112 · 20/03/2018 08:22

I’m sure her parents are waking up this morning j happy their daughter is still alive after a idiot drove like a maniac right into them, they will probably have aches and pains, god knows if the 3 of them are feeling shock or let alone if the child will have problems being back in a car

AnonymousIndividual · 20/03/2018 08:32

It's awful and if dangerous or drink driving is involved, then absolutely wrong in every way.

From reading the previous posts commenting on the cult of the celebrity, who would ever want to be famous?

Your life is never your own, you have to surround yourself with PR, managers and rely on the loyalty of partners, friends and family members who may have their own agendas.

Does the money and adulation make up for that?

IanRushesInadequateFlushes · 20/03/2018 08:36

That's an interesting question, Anon. I remember as a child reading an article about Diana and the ultimate question posed at the end was: "would you swap places with her in her gilded cage?"

For me - i think on balance the stresses are probably less than the stresses of working to support a family or having no income.

Theresasmayshoes11 · 20/03/2018 08:37

Hideous comments about the family of the 3 year old.

I do hope Ant gets the help he needs and thank god no one was killed or injured.

I hope the outcome is happy for everyone.

Theresasmayshoes11 · 20/03/2018 08:41

Anon

Most celebrities get the attention they deserve. The ones who court the publicity get it and the ones who live generally quiet lives and don’t excite attention don’t get it.

Think Katie price V you Emma Thompson. Grin

Travelharder · 20/03/2018 09:04

For me, ultimately, if he has been battling serious mental health problems I would feel compassionate about the situation, independently of him being famous or not.

I think if you know anyone with serious mental health issues it's pretty clear that a lot of decisions aren't made "compos mentis" so it doesn't feel right to blame someone for doing something ill advised in those circumstances, even if the consequences could have been really serious. I think it is probably very difficult and painful to deal with for the people around him as well, even with money being no object. A bit cliche but health really is the one thing you can't buy...

I also know people that drink drive because it suits their lifestyle (live rurally for example) and of course in that's the case there is no excuse.

EdithSitwell · 20/03/2018 09:20

AlmostDoneWithThis Your post about the family in the other car is repugnant, particularly the "poor 3 yo" part, inverted commas for irony/sarcasm, I assume. The child may have been uninjured but it must have been a very frightening experience for her.

StealthPolarBear · 20/03/2018 10:10

"it doesn't feel right to blame someone for doing something ill advised in those circumstances, even if the consequences could have been really serious."
Really? What else can you get away with if you drink heavily?
