He literally plays the same records every week.

Hmm

The Muppets song is no more annoying than that fucking paper plates song that has been played endlessly by every radio station.

(Yes I know it's paper planes, but he's clearly singing about paper plates. )

Petalflowers · 16/03/2018 22:56

The only bit the SW show worth listening to is The Oldies.

I quite like Chris Evans and Jo Whitley. Also like Zoe Ball.

Loved it when Gary Davies covered the show.

CotswoldStrife · 16/03/2018 22:56

The jingle-type music that SW pads with drives me nuts - it's just filler, play another song for a bit!

I don't like phone-ins so never listen to JV.

The few times I've heard Simon Mayo's show I've liked it, no idea why they would add Jo Whiley to it though - not exactly a good fit for her or her target market!

DioneTheDiabolist · 16/03/2018 22:58

Chris Evans only does a kids bit because he wants to bang on about his own so much. Back in the early days of his morning show he was always going on about him.

Love musicals but can't stand EP. Michael Ball is so much better.

AskBasil · 16/03/2018 22:59

I hate him.

What is he still doing on the radio?

I have to turn it off when he comes on.

Oh god and the singing over the songs - what a fucking nob from nobsville

BobbinThreadbare123 · 16/03/2018 22:59

We have Chris Evans on for the drive to work (catch a bit of Vanessa first) . Prefer it when Cox covers even though she tries too hard at being a professional Boltonian. I hate CE's kid phone in so I'm glad I'm not the only grumpy git who finds it cringingly awful.

Ken Bruce's show is OK but mostly for his and Lynn's banter. I can't stand Vine as he lets arguments occur, and Vanessa is much more diplomatic and a proper talk can go on.

Steve Wright is OK but I don't hear the jockin'. Simon Mayo is increasingly annoying me. Some of the confessions are balls.

Cannot stand Norton, Page or O'Leary and don't even get me started on that bloody Reverend with Jason Mohammed; he's OK but she is a gimp.

Radio 2 is a weird place I remember being deeply embarrassed as a kid that we had this on on the morning (early 80s) and not capital. Then suddenly it became something I wanted to listen to. Now I am proper middle aged but apart from Graham Norton I tend not to bother. Radio 5 in the morning and local radio (hate the adverts) in the car. My brain has collapsed too much for radio 4 which I used to love.

PelvicFloorClenchReminder · 17/03/2018 09:37

I really hope the BBC are reading this and start doing some serious firin'.

pictish · 17/03/2018 09:45

“I hate CE's kid phone in so I'm glad I'm not the only grumpy git who finds it cringingly awful.”

Those dreadful, stilted, dull exchanges in which CE is forcefully cheerful and animated over rubbish that no one is interested in hearing about, make for poor radio in my honest opinion. I have to switch it off for a few minutes until it’s over. No amount of fake enthusiasm from CE will ever make it a good feature. It’s annoying and embarrassing in equal measure.

Strugglingtodomybest · 17/03/2018 09:50

I hate SW's show with a vengeance, I aim to switch channels before the theme music plays. That winds me up soooooo much, why does the theme music have to go on for so long? It's shit.

BatFinked · 17/03/2018 09:55

I cannot bear the phrase. I just can’t stand it when he says it 4 or 5 times on the bounce

Notso · 17/03/2018 09:58

I hate radio 2, DH sometimes listens to it and on long car journeys it seems to be the only station that stays tuned in. I've never heard anything remotely amusing or worth listening to on it.

raisedbyguineapigs · 17/03/2018 10:00

I have to switch off the ' impressions'. The Jeremy Vine on I thought was funny the first time but every day? IT'S THE SAME JOKE! !!!!!!

AskBasil · 17/03/2018 10:01

Oh I love Graham Norton. Particularly the problem bit with Maria.

GuinefortGrey · 17/03/2018 10:06

Yes Bluths!! Same 80's Steve Wright school bus experience here!!!! The show has not evolved at all in 30 years!!!!!!!

I like most of radio 2 and usually have the kitchen radio on throughout the day. The SW show has always been utter crap my least favourite but just lately I appear to have reached peak Steve Wright. I just CANNOT bear to listen to him or his suck-up zero personality "friends" for another minute, their voices give me the utter rage. And I'm even more annoyed that I now keep missing my favourite Simon Mayo because I turn the radio off at 2 and forget to turn it back on again. I blame Steve Wright.

musicinspring1 · 17/03/2018 10:15

I’m too old for their demographic but I changed over to Radio 1 and have developed a crush on Greg James.... Blush

Tumblrpigeon · 17/03/2018 11:01

The absolute worst is when Chris Evens brings in his OWN KIDS AND THEY SPEAK ON THE RADIO .

PLEASE JUST FUCK OFF. WE ALL HAVE KIDS AND WE DON’T INFLICT THEM ON OTHERS IN THE WORKPLACE.

efeslight · 17/03/2018 11:10

I really like frank skinner on Absolute radio on Sat morning. Interesting chat and music . Would absolutely recommend!

gottachangethename1 · 17/03/2018 11:21

He’s still far less annoying than Chris Evans and his minions. No Chris, they don’t go to the pub with you because they think you’re a great laugh, they go because they like the lifestyle that being on your programme provides them and their families.

PuppyMonkey · 17/03/2018 11:27

I do agree that Chris Evans is a lot worse than SW. I can’t even bear to have the Evans show on, but I can tolerate Wrighty in the background without needing to murder someone.

I remember flying home on my bike after school to record Steve Write on cassette whenever the bloke who impersonated Mick Jagger and David Bowie. David- Tell us the time Steve. Mick - would impersonate the pips before the news came on: eh eh eh ehhhhhhhhhh. God I would cry with laughter. I think it was the same bloke who was that Gilbert the puppet thingio.

IjustbelieveinMe · 17/03/2018 11:50

I love Frank Skinner on absolute radio and listen to absolute 80s on my headphones all day at work

HelloGabriel · 17/03/2018 11:56

Yes, I wish Frank Skinner had a Monday-Friday breakfast stint on radio Grin

HelloGabriel · 17/03/2018 11:59

I always wonder how much Moira Stewart hates having to put up with CE? He even manages to talk up to the very last millisecond before she starts the news, bet it really pisses her off.

One day the weather presenter (Carol?) told him to stop talking over her, oh I wanted to reach through the radio and hug her!!

Freshprincess · 17/03/2018 12:08

We are the office that keeps radio 2 on all day!

On a weekly basis, we have the same conversation:
'He plays the same songs every day'
'He used to play exactly the same stuff 30 years ago'
'Can you believe he's one of the highest earners'

I'm convinced he records all the shows on Monday morning, and then just turns up for 10 minutes half way through to say something topical.

Ooo. Gary Davies is much better.
