My husband and I have an annual ritual that involves listening to Steve Wright on a long car trip, as we seem to only be able to consistently get Radio 2, and he's taken to writing down the tracks each year to compare.

(cautionary note: this is what passes for entertainment when you reach a certain age...)

I cant stand him or the mid morning twat on R2.

Though we have Witney Radio....the biggest pile of dross you have ever heard

As for the Jeremy Vine inserts, they actually make me cringe. Gary Davies (ooh Gary Davies etc) covered the show last year and was great.
That said, I prefer SW to that awful Craig Charles.

When was at school in the 80s we used to listen to Steve Wright in the afternoon on the bus on the way home. I only ever hear it now if we are going away for the weekend and DH insists on having it on “for the traffic reports” on the drive. I swear it’s excatly the same, a total time warp, the world will end, cockroaches will be the only living creatures left yet Steve Wright in the bloody afternoon will still be going.

I like lustening to Darren Redick in the afternoon.
SW never makes it to my ears if I can help it!

I only listen to Simon Mayo on R2 now.

I haven't heard Born to be Alive in years and now want to listen to the show - because he always mentions the show is available, so I know that it's possible!

Ken Bruce makes my skin crawl. SW is very annoying and his music choice is shite. He was raving about Gareth Gates' 'any one of us' or whatever it is called (whole singing over it of course!). He and the woman always, ALWAYS ask any interviewee if they found writing their book/play/sing cathartic

Ah so glad I found this thread - thought it was just me getting old! Have to turn off CE most morning's and never listen to SW. Like ken Bruce and Simon mayo - but even some of his Friday callers can be so cringy!!! Don't even get me started on Jeremy vine............. maybe it's time to switch to radio 4......

Can't stand SW or ken bruce. They are just overrated dinosaurs. I can't imagine why they are still holding prime time slots.

I like Ken Bruce as well. He’s fine...just blethers away good-naturedly about inconsequential things.

Nobody disses Ken Bruce on my watch. The man is a legend.

Serious switchin’. I’m down to Simon Mayo now, and Jo Whiley in the evenings. SW has always been grim - who else remembers Gervais the hairdresser and the Gay Cabelleros? Shudder. It was buttock clenching even back in the 80s.

It’s a hilarious joke that he’s supposed to be saying jocking, as in disc jocking, but he pronounces it jockin’ so there’s no g on the end. And then people allegedly write in saying other things they are doin’ - no g - and it’s really really funny.

I'm a fan of Ken Bruce. He knows his music and I enjoy his prattle.

Steve Wright should be in the Alan Partridge slot, before anyone is up to hear him.

@PuppyMonkey I’m in agreement NO ONE can diss Ken Bruce, I love him! His chat has a calming effect and makes me feel all content and at ease. Gutted Lynne is going, I’ll miss their patter.

Totally agree that Steve Wright is an arse, but I like Jeremy and don’t mind Chris too much. I do prefer when Sara Cox covers for him.
