He literally plays the same records every week.

Hmm

So many Radio 2 listeners here. Grin

I know we can complain but god, my DCs sometimes insist on Grimmy on Radio 1 in the mornings. Now HE is genuinely terrible.

The old woman died over a year ago.

Parrish · 16/03/2018 21:34

Who is the lady that Graeme norton talks to every week? They sometimes solve people’s problems together.

saltandvinegarcrisps1 · 16/03/2018 21:34

Am ambivalent to SW (though hate serious jock-in). Love jezza but show hit and miss. Hate Simon mayo's staccato sentences. Hate Chris Evans upper middle class shite - it's always little archie's first day at piano/ski-ing/ dressage- even worse when he gets a load of rich knobbers to auction to get a spot driving "super cars" with him.

HuglessDuglas · 16/03/2018 21:39

I hate all of it.
I am stuck in an office forced to listen to the utter dross that passes for entertainment all day.
I don't like Chris Evans
I can just tolerate ken Bruce
I detest Jeremy vine
I cannot stand Steve wright in the afternooon
I honestly cannot understand what sort of person finds j vines contact details or trump slots funny - they make me stabby!!
Thank goodness for podcasts/audible books and headphones to cancel the assault on my ear drums out

LastGirlOnTheLeft · 16/03/2018 21:43

I used to love Sarah Kennedy and then Terry Wogan. I sometimes listened to Janice Long and Mo Dutta too when my insomnia was bad...they were all so comforting!!

One thing I HATE about SW's show is the non-stop oldies....most of the time it is male singers. Just one male voice after another. The same can be said for Tracks of My Years with Ken Bruce, but at least that is only two songs a day. Boring boring boring!!!

S0upertrooper · 16/03/2018 21:45

Parrish, it's Maria. Sounds like she smokes 60pd. Would you like to grill her?

dontticklethetoad · 16/03/2018 21:48

The only thing worse than DJ silly boy are the people that phone in to Elaine Pages show 'in character'.
A strange, calm rage comes over me and I feel quite murderous I probably should get help

dontticklethetoad · 16/03/2018 21:49

Oh and EP's maniacal, chucky the killer doll laugh....

CiderwithBuda · 16/03/2018 21:54

Laughing at this thread. I have Radio two on all day.

Don’t mind Chris Evans too much. Ken Bruce is ok - really sad Lynne is leaving as they are good together. Jeremy Vine irritates me immensely. He is SO rude cutting people off mid sentence. Vanessa Feltz much better when she covers. Steve Wright is annoyin - no g - but i think it’s an actual piss take. Very tongue in cheek. Like Simon Mayo but wondering how much it will change with Jo Whiley.

Weekends - I like graham Norton. Don’t like Dermot O’Leary as he mumbles too much. I like Zoe Ball as a person but she is like a Duracell bunny with verbal diarrhoea. Liza Tarbuck is dreadful.

Sundays - like love songs. Like Michael ball. Don’t mind Elaine Paige - like the music. Love Johnny Walker. Not keen on Paul O’Grady nor len goodman. Richard Madely filled in that slot a few weeks ago and was ok.

Timeandtune · 16/03/2018 21:55

Completely agree about EP on Sunday. DS1 and I love MT so like the songs she plays but when the "break a leg" bit comes on we have to turn off the radio. The accents are dire and do they really think she is going to come to see the Chorlton Cum Hardy Light Opera Society in If I were a Rich Man?
I feel better now that I have said all that and I agree with the OP about SW. He must know where the bodies are buried at R2.

notapizzaeater · 16/03/2018 22:01

I was on the big quiz with SW many years ago, was surprised to find it wasn't live but prerecorded so they could edit it.

Northernlass99 · 16/03/2018 22:05

I cannot bear Steve Wright.

I like Radio 2 generally and I like Simon Mayo, especially the Friday show. But SW is a totally dinosaur. Why is he still on, I cannot understand it. I don't know anyone that doesn't think he is a total bellend.

NerrSnerr · 16/03/2018 22:10

I don't mind Steve Wright I can take him or leave him.

I am going to report all the Ken Bruce hate- that has to be against talk guidelines hasn't it? It can't be in the spirit of mumsnet to hate Ken.

I quite like Vine, I love Zoe Ball and want to be her friend. I like the music oh Elaine's show and Micheal Ball really annoys me (does he still have a show though?)

ShowOfHands · 16/03/2018 22:12

I get the rage at every bit of SW. Without exception, the non stop oldies are chosen by somebody called either Janice or Alan who works for a large refrigeration company and claims to like "an eclectic range of music". There then follows several dull pop songs from a few different decades. I ache for somebody to claim they have eclectic tastes followed by Bavarian throat singing, thrash metal and a Gregorian chant. Not The Carpenters, Elton John and Iggy Pop. No Janice. NO.

loveka · 16/03/2018 22:16

I fucking love Steve Wright.

Biggreygoose · 16/03/2018 22:18

I miss Wogan. Made the early starts worth it.

Chris Evans can be ok. I like his Friday shows with the guests, it means he occasionally shuts up. Oh and the kids, no one gives a shit. I thought it was just me being a miserable dick, so glad there are others!

Ken Bruce is a legend. End of. Also popmaster is great.

Jeremy vine should be given the boot as soon as possible. Yesterday wouldn't be too soon.

SW has been doing the same show forever. You could loop a show from the early 90s and noone would notice. About time he stopped. Everyone sounds bored on the show. Detest the Sunday love songs.

Mayo I'm divided on. I like the recipe bit and the books. The Friday request show gives me the rage, no one cares about your life, just play a fucking tune. Confessions have gone down hill in the last couple of years, pretty sure they are written by the producers these days.

Elaine Page just gives me the rage full stop. Her voice makes me want to commit serious crimes and her laugh I swear will get me committed.

I like the country and folk shows, but mainly because I like folk and country.

Graham Norton is listenable. Not enough music for my tastes though.

Liza tarbuk is. So. Freaking. Annoying. Good set list generally though.

I like Zoe ball, she has good guests. not keen on Cox.

Not sure how Paul Gambawotsit is still working, let alone in a prime slot. Same with Tony Blackburn

Craig Charles is shit and plays shit music. Should stay at the 2am slot where he belongs.

2rebecca · 16/03/2018 22:20

Hate Steve Wright, he's a narcissist with awful taste in music who loves the sound of his own voice more than the music. Luckily he's mainly on when I'm working.

2rebecca · 16/03/2018 22:21

I loved Wogan, but mainly loved Paul Walters who chose much of his music.

2rebecca · 16/03/2018 22:22

Getiton with Brian burnet on R Scotland at drivetime is my favourite show. probably because he's my age as are most of the folk choosing the themed records every evening.

NecklessMumster · 16/03/2018 22:28

this has cheered me up, I hate sw, his voice and fucking factoids...

willstarttomorrow · 16/03/2018 22:39

Timely thread! I travelled north to south coast today in my old faithful without DAB. Local radio past Sheffield seems to be stuck in the 80's so it was radio 2 from then on. I love radio 2 on Saturday and Jeremy Vine was fine bwcause I love phone ins where people rant about the state of bin collections etc. But bloody hell from Oxford to chichester it was SW. I swear it was exactly the same show I listened to the last time I happened to hear it (probably in similar circumstances. Mind you it could (and will be worse). The local station down here (Spirit fm or something) seems to base itself on hospital radio. And I am driving back on Sunday when bbc 2 thinks it needs to return to the 1950s. Elaine Paige!

SingingTunelessly · 16/03/2018 22:40

notapizzaeater, I didn’t realise TBQ was pre-recorded! 😮. I’ve heard that SW does a lot of this which why I think his show is so stilted and false sounding. I’m a die hard R2 listener but his show is really dire.

Anjelika · 16/03/2018 22:46

Can't believe no-one's mentioned that bloody irritating Muppets song Simon Mayo plays every Friday or how many idiots actually phone in to request it. It has me diving for the mute button in the same way that only Ed Sheeran's effing Galway Girl can! I listen to R2 most of the day. Can't bear Chris Evans and rejoice when Sara Cox steps in. Even though he was a complete flop on Too Gear he still bangs on about his bloody car-fest at every opportunity.

2rebecca · 16/03/2018 22:49

Elaine Paige is awful. Don't mind some of the musical stuff but her laugh seems really false and I hate the way R2 thinks only people over 60 are listening on a Sunday. Put Elaine Paige on during the week when I'm at work. Surely more younger folk listen at weekends. Not that I'm young but I don't want non stop musicals and golden oldies.
