Men: do you have standards re. who you would have sex with?

Or do you not really mind. Say you’d been on a couple of dates with someone, would she have to be pretty/attractive for you to want to have sex with her, or does it not really matter.

OP posts:
kaytee87 · 14/03/2018 19:59

@ThroughThickAndThin01 people are dismissing him for his use of the horribly misogynistic word 'slutty' about women whilst ironically describing himself as quite promiscuous.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 14/03/2018 20:02

Yes kaytee87 the op is asking for male opinions, but when one sticks his head above the parapet and tells his opinions he’s shot down. Not on imo.

Bexter801 · 14/03/2018 20:04

@ThroughThickAndThin01 our perception of 'a man' obviously differs.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 14/03/2018 20:05

How?

Belindabauer · 14/03/2018 20:06

I find it bizzare that a lot if men say they will have a one night stand with anyone but won't want to see the woman again. If you can have sex again wny not?
Just curious. Can you only block out the fact you're not attracted to someone for a limited amount of time.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 14/03/2018 20:08

Don’t ask Belinda no man will reply because they’ll be pounced on.

tigerrun · 14/03/2018 20:08

QUESTION: People: do you have standards re. who you would have sex with?

ANSWER: Some people do some people don't.

There, fixed it for you.

Belindabauer · 14/03/2018 20:09

I also think maybe women get more out of masterbating than men. Might be because it's not piv sex which makes a woman( most anyway) orgasm so she can do it herself.
I know men can but why not just masterbate.

Bexter801 · 14/03/2018 20:10

@ThroughThickAndThin01 If your happy with being told how you should be in order for a man to fall for you, cool :) I personally prefer just to be myself

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 14/03/2018 20:12

What the hell are you on about Bexter . Don’t think you’re on the right thread tbh.

outabout · 14/03/2018 20:20

My attitudes are probably like most 'decent' men in that I have respect for women and would not consider a one night stand. I would not wish to be thought of as a 'sex object' (not actually likely!!).
@tigerrun has summed it up accurately, although not much of a real discussion.

outabout · 14/03/2018 20:22

Hey, I've not been shot down yet. Now trying to work out if I am offended or not.
OK I will settle for ignored, what the hell.

PrettyLittIeThing · 14/03/2018 20:26

I think men who do that be kinda probably don't actually like the woman so don't want to stay in contact.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 14/03/2018 20:28

It’s a miracle outabout Grin

RosyPrimroseface · 14/03/2018 20:28

Interesting our use of the term "standards". If you're a person who's prepared to shag quite a wide variety of people you could argue your "standards" of morality are higher - in that you are not judging people by narrow criteria of conventional beauty.

"Having high standards" - the way we are using it, seems to be rooted in a world of Puritan self denial where ideally you'd not have sex at all, and the less you have, the higher your standard.

Unless you're having it off with people who are nasty, abusive and horrible to you, who's to say whether a person meets a "standard"? Who sets this standard? Could a high standard include almost everyone?

MN164 · 14/03/2018 20:32

Evolutionary theory has something to add. Men can spread their genes widely with much less investment in offspring. Women have to invest heavily in offspring so are careful in their choices.

Combine this with patriarchal society and it's clear that men's willingness and sense of entitlement to have sex will be far higher than women.

All that said, everyone is on a spectrum a number of women will have lower standards than a number of men and visa versa.

BarbarianMum · 14/03/2018 20:32

MeanTangarine has summed up the situation nicely. It's all down to biology in the end. Men have much less to lose by a bit of random shagging than women.

NordicNobody · 14/03/2018 20:33

My friend was hopelessly besotted with a guy who strung her along and slept with her while drunk a bunch of times. They'd be sleeping together for about 6 months and she made it very very clear from word go that she wanted more. He'd tell her he did too when drunk, then deny any memory of it while sober. One night she really pressed him about being together as a proper couple, and he told her bluntly that he liked her but would never date her officially as she was too fat and he was embarrassed to be seen with her. Another friend of mine did something similar, hooking up with our mutual friend but refusing to take it further, and told me in private that it was because she was overweight and he felt he'd lose respect from his (male) friends. The chance of losing my respect by admitting to being such a pig obviously didn't bother him. We don't speak any more. These are men in their late 20s and 30s ffs!

Crunched · 14/03/2018 20:38

My DS is in his first year at university. I have been a little bit stunned (and a tiny bit proud) that he and the blokes he has become closest to (3 others) are a bit horrified by another guy on the course who has basically slept with anyone who is up for it. Am I wrong in thinking that the nasty word slut has become gender-less?
Around the world, a maximum of about 4% of women ever initiated that they would shag a totally hot stranger Confused When not in a relationship and in guaranteed safety? This sounds unreasonably low. What does that say about me...

Holowiwi · 14/03/2018 20:52

If the guy finds her attractive enough then I think most would be up for it. Doesn't mean they would want a relationship with her though. Men wanting to have sex with someone isn't the same thing as wanting them in your life.

BigFatGoalie · 14/03/2018 20:54

bexter having a go at Freudian because you think he “spoke down to you” just shows you’re insecure.
This thread asked for male opinions. He gave one.
Let it go.

HeresMe · 14/03/2018 21:07

Man here don't shoot me down.

Nope I will not shag around or have one night stands.
I do not have standards per-se other than I won't sleep with a woman until I have at least some feelings towards her.

Unfortunately even though I'm physically fit, I'm not the most attractive of guys to women so I don't really get a lot.
And just saying I know a lot of women who love shagging a different bloke each weekend so don't think is a exclusive male issue.

Chattymummyhere · 14/03/2018 21:28

I don’t think it’s a gender thing really.

I’ve been a use em and lose em type at times. Friends with benefits, acceptable for a bf and then married and faithful.

If I was ever single again I would likely go back to use em and lose em with a friend on the side. As I wouldn’t want anything serious. When you’re in a use them mode you don’t care too much as long as they are hygienic and practise safe sex as you won’t see them again.

Pinkponiesrock · 14/03/2018 21:34

Just asked my DH and he said ‘do you mean a ten to two’, which apparently means when the pubs shut you hook up with whoever is still there. Implying that the less attractive ones are still there at the bitter end. Charming!!!

His response is that teens/early twenties then it’s on if they’ve brushed their teeth, late 20s then as long as they have decent chat and personal hygiene but you turn down casual sex over waiting for someone you really liked.
Once into your thirties it’s looking for a longer term relationship, but you wouldn’t turn it down if nothing else was on the horizon Hmm

He did say he’d never ever cheat though even if I’d never find out as he’d know. DH said he would think about it everyday and how he’d feel if it was the other way round.

HandyAndy89 · 14/03/2018 21:40

As a 28 year old male I 100% have standards.
I work in convienece stores carrying out maintenance, around 5/6 weeks ago I was propositioned about no strings sex with a worker and had to decline. You could tell she was a right laugh and we got on very well but there just wasn't an attraction on my part. I would say I'm average looking but have above average standards and won't just sleep with anyone. She added me on snapchat and sent some very naughty photos and she did try and convince me to change my mind but I just couldn't.
