The tshirt doesn’t seem to even exist

SheGotBetteDavisEyes · 14/03/2018 13:03

It would be OK if they sold them for all children

Ah, I missed that bit. I assumed it was for boys or girls.

Commuterface · 14/03/2018 13:06

Yawn. Next!

InDubiousBattle · 14/03/2018 13:06

What makes it a girls t shirt? Does it just happen to be on a girl?

MichaelBendfaster · 14/03/2018 13:08

Ah, I missed that bit. I assumed it was for boys or girls.

I'm assuming from the OP that it's only for girls but am happy to be corrected if wrong. Assuming it IS just in the girls' section, though, I'd say that of course technically someone could buy it for a girl OR boy (and there's another conversation to be had about separating kids' clothes departments like this), but it being only in the girls' department makes it discriminatory.

Elendon · 14/03/2018 13:10

This is AIBU.

Why should females have to be bloody happy all the fecking time.

YANBU OP

Feck that shit.

AssignedPuuurfectAtBirth · 14/03/2018 13:11

It's the modern "tits and teeth, girls". Grin

CreamEggEnthusiast · 14/03/2018 13:12

Get a grip please.

yorkshireyummymummy · 14/03/2018 13:13

Don’t knOw what your AIBU is.
Are you just an attention seeker?
And ....why do people get outraged about stupid things? Get outraged about the homeless, children living in poverty, FGM........but not a t shirt telling you to 😃. Get a fucking grip/life. And try smiling.

purpleme12 · 14/03/2018 13:13

Thus tshirt sounds ace I love Annie!
But disappointed people are saying it might not be true now!

greenbeansqueen · 14/03/2018 13:14

Give’s a smile love, amiright?? I agree OP - i’ll Stop thinking slogan like that are shite the day they appear on boys tshirts too...

midnightmisssuki · 14/03/2018 13:18

hahaha - the terminally offended. Im goign to steal that line.
YABU OP - and really quite silly if this offends you. Have you no real joy in your life? Were you hoping to start some twitter campaign/DM article by getting support on here? The say you started it all? If you - youve failed. Sorry.

Love the musical though!

Willow2017 · 14/03/2018 13:18

I wouldnt get the 'Annie' reference at all.

And as its just for girls then its crap. Why shouldnt it be on boys t shirts too? Cos nobody ever expects men to go around permanently grinning inanely.

Cos girls and women are supposed to go around permanently grinning like a cheshire cat or some dick will shout out
'It'll never happen love' or 'Smile love.' cos we are supposed to be permanently smiling for the males of the species and permanently happy and jolly no matter what shit we are going through, cos we are women and should cope no problem and put all others first.

WIll nobody think of the people we meet who NEED us to smile all the time?

Funny as thee have been whole threads on this topic moaning about how women are supposed to smile all the time but when someone points out this is starting with little girls its ok!

greenbeansqueen · 14/03/2018 13:19

Girl’s are still being taught to be compliant, to be pleasant, accommodating, ‘happy’ or the appearance of it and it STARTS with these gendered slogans. And the girls who stand up for themselves are shrill, fishwifes, bitches, bossy, bags and on it goes UNLESS don’t buy this crappy slogans tshirts. If they fall out of favour stores will stop making them and stocking them.
My DN is going to a dance class/etiquette course thing where they are not ALLOWED to say no to a boy asking them to dance. BUT it’s okay because the boys are all ‘gentleman’.not even making that up. They’re 13...

It's reminiscent of the Quiverfull cult, and their insistence that girls (only girls, not boys) smile all the time.

It's probably why those poor kids who were rescued in the States recently were smiling in all the photos, despite the horrific abuse they were living through.
It's deeply creepy.

They’re in Texas it’s got a fancy name an old southern manners etiquette thing. parents think it’s fab, t aching the kids good old fashioned southern values.

ItsAllABitStrangeReally · 14/03/2018 13:24

Are we not allowed to smile now ?? Blimey !!

greenbeansqueen · 14/03/2018 13:24

Junior manners cotillion. The boys are always the ones asking... so it doesn’t work both ways

FairiesVsPixies · 14/03/2018 13:25

Weren't the boys smiling as well though?

demirose87 · 14/03/2018 13:27

This proves offence can be found in anything if you look hard enough and some people love to be offended.

SweetMoon · 14/03/2018 13:29

It's just a saying. I can't see what's wrong with it.

Sounds like good advice Grin. If we all smiled a bit more perhaps there wouldn't be so many grumpy fuckers everywhere trying to bring us down all the time!

PasDeDeux · 14/03/2018 13:29

Would you say you are very easily triggered OP? Grin

snash12 · 14/03/2018 13:32

You couldn't make this stuff up.

Only on MN would a line from a fucking musical (intended for a young audience) be offensive.
