What??? What's wrong with that phrase???

Are you offended by profession?

TheFairyCaravan · 14/03/2018 12:51

Am I the only one who can’t find this tshirt? Yes I am that sad that I’ve just looked through nexts website for it

I did the same and can’t find it either.🤔

RedSkyAtNight · 14/03/2018 12:51

Clearly it's offensive to those who choose to be grumpy.

DD has a Tshirt that says "Happiness is the best makeup" - now wondering if that is offensive too?

OliviaStabler · 14/03/2018 12:51

Girls t shirt from next that says, you are not properly dressed without a smile

So what?

3luckystars · 14/03/2018 12:52

Oh I love that film, I'm getting one! Thanks for the tip off.

dancingthroughthedark · 14/03/2018 12:52

Can't find said T Shirt online, thought this thread is already on the first page of a google search!

Scribblegirl · 14/03/2018 12:53

Clearly it's offensive to those who choose to be grumpy.

I have a chronic case of resting bitch face, am I allowed to sue for injury to feelings? Grin

HRTpatch · 14/03/2018 12:54

There are some miserable joysuckers in life

upsideup · 14/03/2018 12:54

Will be getting dd(10) that tshirt if I can find it, Annie is her one of favourite musicals. Thanks for the tip OP!

LambMadras · 14/03/2018 12:55

Do Next sell grips? Because you need to get one Wink

Southwest12 · 14/03/2018 12:56

I’m fairly sure there’s a Hamilton tshirt that has immigrants, we get the job done on. Is that equal or more wtf?! I got the You’ll be back one instead, with the best line ever on it: Cos if push comes to shove I will kill your friends and family to remind you of my love!

RhiWrites · 14/03/2018 12:56

I think the OP was justifiably feeling that girls and women are told to smile too much. No one ever tells boys or men to “give us a smile, pet”.

But it made me think of Annie too. Lots of fans on this thread.

Notso · 14/03/2018 12:56

I can't hear the song without hearing my old dance teacher yelling directions like "shuffle hop down" and "step and tap and step and tap and walk, walk, walk HANDS"

BadTasteFlump · 14/03/2018 12:56

Next clothes are shite. Just don't shop there and your eyes won't have to be offended.

hatetosayitoldyouso · 14/03/2018 12:57

🙄

FairiesVsPixies · 14/03/2018 12:57

MadisonAvenue Because it's essentially telling women to 'smile'.

Well how bloody dare they. Boys aren't told to smile. It's an outrage, ..............Hmm
There are things to get offended about - this isn't one of them. Does this t-shirt even exist, anyway?

SlothMama · 14/03/2018 12:57

Don't buy it then, why do people get offended over the most stupid of things??

To someone who didn't know it was a quote from a song from Annie, it would seem an odd thing to put on a t-shirt for girls.

It would seem to be saying that a girl needs to be smiling if she's going to be going out in public.

If you know it's from a song, it's fine, but not everyone is going to recognise it.

Sirzy · 14/03/2018 12:58

Even without knowing where it is from I can’t see why it would be a problem. As pp said there are certainly t shirts for boys encouraging smiling.

How is encouraging happiness bad?

Ginormoustrawberry · 14/03/2018 12:59

WTF is wrong with you OP? Hmm

specialsubject · 14/03/2018 13:00

Quite a good message. Look at the catwalk models - expensive clothes yet look rough as guts due to sulky faces.

SheGotBetteDavisEyes · 14/03/2018 13:00

If it said 'A girl is never fully dressed without a smile,' I would hear you OP.

This slogan is fine, in my view, and I'll happily argue a feminist point of principle 'til the cows come home, no matter how unpopular Grin

It's a nice sentiment, that's all.

Eatmycheese · 14/03/2018 13:01

When did it happen that the innocuous offends so easily?

MichaelBendfaster · 14/03/2018 13:01

It's the kid equivilent of those men who yell "smile love" out their van windows

EXACTLY this.

It would be OK if they sold them for all children, but if they don't then it is clearly suggesting a kind of behaviour/comportment for girls than for boys. Which isn't on.
No, it's not as awful as the Future WAG kind of things, but that doesn't mean it's OK. These small things all add up.
